The price of 1k+ for a 128GB S6 Edge was insane and I returned mine mostly due to that. Just not worth the price plus I couldn't get use to the Edge and edge to edge screen protectors had issues with it also.

Hopefully the price would be reasonable but I highly doubt it. Agree that the Note 5 will probably be the better value but will all depend if it comes with a microSD or not. W/O a microSD slot, I can see the prices being comparable to the S6 & S6 Edge pricing or a little more due to S-Pen and its functionality.

They will lose a lot of Note 5 sales, especially those users that only want a large screen, At the end of the day its still money for Samsung though. Although I honestly believe that Samsung loses a LOT of sales because of its very high pricing. It will be interesting what happens when Xiaomi makes it's way to a lot of these markets.

The Last Shangri-La
Anyone having issues with battery drain with cell standby?

Last few day 'cell standby' has been eating up to 40% and is killing the battery much quicker than usual. I haven't update anything or changed anything out of the ordinary.

I honestly believe it's there for aesthetic form over function tbh.

Even what 'extra' edge options are there - frankly they could be done on a standard screen and there is no reason they wouldn't work just as well.

That being said - it's a very nice aesthetic.

I agree, I think an edge to edge bezel less display would be FAR more useful. The Note edge had much better functionality, although I'd still prefer edge to edge. I'm still puzzled why they went backwards from that.

So where are all those comments from posters that claimed the iPhone 6+ was a joke because unlike the Note series, it's just a bigger version of the iPhone 6+, not doing anything to take advantage of the extra screen real estate?

I won't belittle this device on those ground because sometimes we just want more space on our phone display. I love me a big phone and if I was considering a Samsung, I take a serious look at this over the Note because it'll probably have an overall smaller footprint and I have zero need for a stylus on my phone. :D

No, I think you have a legit point. I wouldn't get the Edge Plus over the Note 5. I think Samsung should have kept their line simple:

Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge = 5.1"

Galaxy Note 5 and Note 5 Edge = 5.5" or whatever their size is. BOTH coming with S-Pen functionality.

The way they have it now, it's slightly less organized.

GS6, GS6 Edge, GS6 Edge Plus?

Then a stand alone Note 5, but the GS6 Edge Plus is the same size...?

: shrug : Samsung being Samsung.

I kinda agree.... I will probably not get the S6 Edge Plus. My plans are to get the Note 5.

But I would love to have the size and specs of the Note 5 but without the S-Pen if it meant a thinner device. I think the edge screens look awesome but prefer the regular S6 over the S6 edge.
I think Sammy was surprised at the popularity of the S6 Edge and decided a bigger one would be even more popular. Something like the IP6 Plus.

I wonder if the Galaxy S7 will be just an Edge variant, and it'll just be known as the Galaxy S7.

Then it'd make sense to have a Galaxy S7 and a Galaxy S7 Plus, both with edge screens to compete with Apple's iPhone 7 and 7 Plus (which will be redesigned). Might be nice to see Samsung fully committed to their new baby.

Or is that a terrible idea? I don't know.

Then let the Note 6 be solo with S-Pen functionality.

I think what was meant was iOS was just blown up with no features to take advantage of the large screen, similar to the iPad until the latest OS revision. Samsung has specific things in TW that make great use of the larger screen. BTW I personally don't believe the iPhone 6 plus is stupid because of that at all, I liked the 6 plus quite a bit and would have kept mine but I just felt too limited by the OS. Someone who likes iOS and just wants a bigger screen can't go wrong with one.

This is exactly what Samsung needs to do. Get rid of the normal flat phone and make their edge their standard model.

Funny thing is the S6 edge isnt really an edge like the Note 4 edge was. The S6 edge is just like a normal single flat screen with curves. The S6 edge should have had two separate additional screens on each side. Note edge is such a better phone yet most people dont even know about it.

They need to do all this and take an initial hit on production costs to achieve increased market share with the view that they will get production costs down over time.

Their move into premium materials is a start but they need to stop their silly pricing. People complain that Macbook Pros are expensive laptops but when Sony and Samsung delivered their equivalent they were way more expensive. Sony Vaoi is now dead and Samsung have stopped selling their high end ultrabooks in Europe.

People like to moan about the cost of Apple products but when a competitor produces something equivalent they are always more expensive.

S6 edge plus 128gb £700 RRP max please Samsung but with carriers actually discounting it further. (Of course these prices will not happen which is why I expect the carriers to massively discount it or it will be a no buy)

Agree with you on the laptops. I'd personally never drop a penny on a non osx computer.

When it comes to the s6 and pricing, you are getting more bang for your buck though than the iPhone 6. Better screen, better camera with ois, wireless charging, quick charge, more RAM, more storage, etc. Whether one likes the experience or not is a different story but spec for spec and pound for pound you are getting more.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge crowned Best Phone at the 2015 TechRadar Phone Awards

Samsung has returned to its former phone glories, with the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge being crowned Best Phone at the 2015 TechRadar Phone Awards.

The S6 Edge was deemed to be the best all-round handset of the past 12 months, edging out – pun totally intended – the iPhone 6 Plus for top honours.

"What was interesting was the judges, while all impressed with the power and feature set of the Galaxy S6 Edge, were all blown away by the surely-iconic curved screen either side. It's the phone that, if you get it out down the pub, will be the one everyone wants to see."

Any other Note 4 users thinking about defecting to the S6E+? I've been experimenting with OneNote and the ability to handwrite with a capacitive stylus or a finger and I'm rethinking my need for the stylus. The S6E+ sure looks incredible, where the Note 5 looks almost the same as the Note 4. THat's if I even stay with Samsung, who utterly suck in making reliable hardware in my experience and I'm kind of sick of all the hardware and software issues I've had with them over the years. But who else competes? I don't see anyone else having a compelling design except the iPhone. HTC rehashed a 2 year old phone, LG also rehashed their phone and put a horrid looking back on it, Sony nothing new, Motorola MotoX might be decent but it's not really meant as a true flagship, Xioami has incredible stuff but won't be in the states for another year, who else? This year was a crappy year for phone releases IMO. The only sleeper hit I predict is a Microsoft surface phone with continuum, but who knows what and when that will be.

Definitely agree, Samsung fragments themselves into way too many pieces. They lose focus and can't put all their muscle behind a few models like Apple does. Worse, they constantly abandon relatively new hardware, does anyone really think their Note 4 will get Android M anytime before next spring? And it might be watered down like Lollipop for the Note 3 was this year.

Pricing is also an issue, there has to be a reason to choose a Samsung phone for apple happy consumers. I think it's a pride issue if they price their flagship below apple, some sentiment of giving up or admitting price as a factor. But it's the truth, Samsung just doesn't have that intangible quality that makes people overspend on Apple products. I think the telling thing is just how fast the value of their phones drop. You can get a Note 4 for less than $400 now on swappa.

Finally, I also wonder about the curved screen and functionality. It should have been like the Note Edge, but as it is now it's kind of useless. Definitely beautiful and one reason why I'm considering it, just shamelessly satisfying my penchant for a new shiny useless bauble.

VERY nice, I'm leaning towards the S6E+ more and more. I'd be very curious how many Note series owners they are going to lose to the S6E+. The only thing left is the stylus/digitizer.

I don't think it matters to Samsung tbh as they are still going to be Samsung users regardless. It's also not like they are buying a 'cheaper product' either. They clearly expect some to go for the S6 Edge + instead.

Personally though the extra 1gb is a bit of a kick in the teeth for existing users who are having certain insufficiencies with their device. Depending on price I may upgrade to it myself, but it does sound like confirmation that the 3gb in the S6/S6 Edge is somewhat insufficient and potentially those with issues won't see a fix...

I'd take the pen over the edge. There are a bunch of apps I don't bother installing since they're useless without pen.

I don't get that kind of comment. If they add a more upgraded powerful processor does that mean the last generation model was somehow deficient in some way? If they upgrade the camera does that mean the last camera somehow wrong?
They always add features and upgrades from one model to the next. That doesn't mean the previous modal had flaws and that was the reason for the upgrades. The whole mobile industry has been moving to 4GB of ram...not just Samsung.
Here is a list of 10 phones with 4GB of ram....

Even the Moto X 2015 is supposed to have 4GB
