a better place
Thanks! It concerned me when Erica said she her M9 was better because I had an M8 briefly in September that I returned due to horrible reception.

Yeah she has a far different experience to me. (Complete opposite)

I bought the M9, it dropped calls for me in low signal black spots whereas the S6 edge at least remained connected.

Thanks. The people I know with the S5 speak very well of its reception, I was somewhat surprised to hear the S6 didn't do well. Glad to know most are having good results with the S6.

Did a reset/restore to end up updating my S6 to 5.1.1.

I don't know what it is, but everything is faster so far.

Another example of when multi window is useful. My mum emails me and asks me to find her these sneakers on sale. I'm looking online and in order to match the style, I use split screen to check.

Again, it's used rarely but when needed it's really handy.

Battery life isn't so bad. Approaching 5 days on battery with nearly 2 hours screen on time. Even in power saving mode it benches faster in Droidfish chess at 1400-1500k nps compared to ~1200-1300k nps on iPhone 6. S6 is just to play around with since I'm actually looking forward to the Note 5 which will be even better.

Power saving mode is more like non-turbo mode or balanced mode on Windows. As long as it's faster than iPhone 6 but I don't need it to be nearly twice as fast.

I think I got to the bottom of the home screen refresh. Hasn't happened since I made this change:

I forgot that I have Developer Option turned on and all the animation at .5 speed. I've since reset them back to their default speed and I notice everything is running a lot smoother, as it was intended. I could be wrong, but I predict the .5 speed setting meant there wasn't enough time for the home screen to be ready, so to speak.

I've had the setting back to default all weekend (since Thursday), and I haven't seen a redraw since then.

Also, overall, the phone feels smoother and ironically, faster. Again, I think the .5 animation speed meant things just aren't ready.

: shrug :

I rarely use launchers, but did purchase NOVA a couple of years ago.

I tried it on my S6 this weekend and I must say that it does inject new life into the S6 and seemingly makes a smoother, faster and snappier experience. I have persistent home screen enabled and haven't seen any dropped frames or reloads.

The material design animations are very nice and smooth as well.

Did you see home screen refreshes prior when just using TouchWiz?

Rarely after the last update, but I would a couple of times a week.

Changing the default animation speed in developer options seems to make it worse.

Yeah, putting it back to default made a difference for me. Still haven't seen a single home screen redraw. And overall performance seems smoother and better, too.

Guess shouldn't tamper too much with developer options. The animation speed is the way it is for a reason. And it's by no means slow in default animation speed.

I'm starting to notice my S6 slow down ever so slightly... Apps used to fly open now take an extra second or two to open up... anyone else noticing this?

Not really. The only slow down I experience is when unlocking with finger print. Especially when it unlocks into an app; in this case, it hangs for a very noticeable second or so.

And then the rare and occasional home screen refresh. Yes that's still happening unfortunately.

Nexus 5........ Bring it baby.

Nice link. My opinion:

I actually think many, if not most, of the touchwiz menus and colors look better than stock options. The settings menu, for one, in touchwiz is fantastic. Color coded, organized and simple. It's just easier on the eyes making things eaiser to find and quicker to get to. Plus, with stock you no longer get the 6 or so "quick settings" at the top of the settings menu (fully customizable, of course!) Like you do in touchwiz. Likewise, I find touchwiz's pull down notification shade to be cleaner and easier to use, too. You get faster access to the quick toggles (vs having to pull down twice. That annoys me so much on stock lollipop. Goes against the idea of "quick"), and you get to customize what toggles go where. Secondary toggles go to a second page, too. So you get more and you get the main ones quicker.

Ditto a few other things like the dialer and such. I think touchwiz aesthetically looks and makes more sense than stock in many areas.

Well, except for those gawd awful touchwiz app icons. They truly are hideous. Stock Android icons win in this regard.

As for me, I use Google now launcher and this app called icon changer (free) along with the moonshine icon pack (also free). This allows me to keep the things I like about touchwiz while still functioning almost like stock.

Just my two cents.

I would have used the Now Launcher, but the TW launcher was just so much better in terms of icon sizes at the very least.

Hey every got a charging related question for the Galaxy S6...

I've read somewhere that it's not safe to charge the phone with 3rd party cables (because they're different than the one which comes with the phone apparently)... so I bought a external battery case for the GS6 and I'm wondering will it damage my charging port on the phone in any way?

It looks like the same port as the one on the cable which I use to charge my phone with... might be a dumb question but I've read a story where a guy used a different cable and his phone wouldn't charge anymore... so yeah, I just want to be safe.

This is the topic that concerns me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/general/warning-charge-s6-edge-random-micro-usb-t3142867

Micro USB is standard. The issue is cheaply made USB connectors that are physically out of spec. If you have to force a connector in then surely it'll loosen/damage the phone micro USB connector. Just stick to Samsung cables which are working fine even with ones from 2010 or quality aftermarket cables.

Well, just disabled a lot of Samsung things, checked out the Now Launcher again (anyone know how to lower icon sizes?) and turned off animations.

Fast is definitely a way to describe it.
