Does anyone's s6's home screen refresh every now and then? It's rare but it does happen. Anyone else? I'm wondering if it's a Google bow launcher issue? That's what I'm using. Or is it at the heart, a touchwiz issue? Or even deeper, is it an android issue?

I aak the last question because I've noticed it happen once on a friends nexus phone too when he was showing me something. I think it was a nexus 5. Can't remember.

Anyway... Anyone?

Yeah. Happens on my Edge as well. Every few days or seems to reset itself - almost like a reboot, but without the whole reboot process, just the launcher. This has happened with both nova and aviate.

Hello.....I've been a long time user of Galaxy S from S2, S3, and S4. I switched to the iPhone when the 6 came out to see what the hype was about and it took me a month or so to really get used to the iPhone OS. I will have to say at first the iPhone was frustrating to use but it grew on me.

I recently switched back to the Galaxy S6 as I decided to give my iPhone away to my niece and I find myself a little frustrated with the stock browser (the habit of navigating the browser from the sides of the screen to go back/forward on the iPhone Safari) and it seems like its not a feature that is built into the stock browser. Is there a browsing app that will allow me to swipe left and right from the side of the screen to navigate instead of pressing the back capacitive button?

Overall, I do like the Galaxy S6 in terms of the neat features such as printing from the phone and the camera, but the battery life seems to drain pretty fast. Hopefully the battery will get calibrated after a few charges.

Yes mine refreshed and redrawed. Certainly not as often as my other refresh, but yeah it did. Press button to go to home screen and for a second you would see the icons and background refresh / redraw.

It actually was worse for me with Nova unless i used the override setting in Nova to force it to keep Nova launcher in memory, but then I experienced more refreshes in other apps. So I went back to TW

So you all are saying it's a launcher thing? The home screen refreshing.

Well yes & no. This issue is just part of the app refreshing / aggressive ram issue in general.

However it tends to affect TW launcher less than something like Nova unless in Nova you tell it to 'force keep in memory' which means less chance of refresh of launcher screen - but something else has to give as the OS begins wanting to close apps - in my case more refreshes/reloads in third party apps.

Therefore for me the TW launcher occasional re-draw was the lesser of the evils so I decided to just carry on using TW launcher.

But fundamentally its just part of the aggressive ram issue. If you want to root and edit the Android build-prop manually there are some workarounds to alleviate a lot of it - but it doesn't solve the issue completely.

Wow, really?

Luckily this isn't a problem that often comes up. It needs to be addressed though by Samsung.

What do you mean by home screen refresh?

Basically, when you go back to the home screen, you see your wallpaper for a split second before your apps and widgets appear.

It's very subtle and very slight and happens rarely. Experience this?

I think I have on my Nexus 6 when I had it and my Note 4. Not sure about the S6. But probably since it happened on the rest of them.

Strange. I wonder if it's an Android issue. It's not a deal breaker by any means, but someone should sort it out. Be it Google or Samsung....

Yeah the nexus 6 apparently suffered before 5.0.2 with it and lesser extent with subsequent updates. Like I say it also depends on launcher and your setting.

Even the HTC one M9 did it every now and then. :)

its partially way android releases memory - will affect devices with less memory - or those struggling with their memory (the nexus it happened because of the dreaded memory hole that has been fixed on 5.1 & 5.1.1 on N6)

It's been that way for a long time - it's just the way Android frees up memory if its been using a lot in apps and has run out of memory - it basically axed the launcher whilst using the app and then going back to home will then make it refresh obviously because it has to reload that back into memory.

The more a device struggles with memory - the more you will see it. Happens a heck of a lot on Android devices with say 1gb ram.

Well I'm gonna give the S6 another try. My G2 is on its last legs (busted bezel and crazy screen), and my carrier in Germany has an insane deal right now for the S6 and they give me Galaxy Tab 4 7" for free.

The idea is to keep the S6 for a couple of months until the iPhone 6S in unveiled. If the iPhone has at least 2GB RAM and OIS in the 4,7" (more battery would be nice), I will sell the Galaxy.

The tablet is gonna go on Ebay ASAP.

I'm beginning to think it's the Google Now launcher. I've been testing the waters with TouchWiz, and haven't seen the home screen redraw/refresh.

But at the same time, it happens rarely, so I don't know if it simply hasn't happened yet.

Please do let me know about Nova. Maybe I'll give it a shot. I've heard nothing but amazing things about Nova anyway.

Nova is great and it's definitely worth upgrading to Nova Prime. You can always use the option 'aggressive desktop ' too if you don't want to see home screen refreshes ever, but this can cause more refreshes in other apps though. It's hidden option in the advanced menu of nova.

Try it - if it works for you upgrade to Prime. You could also opt to get the Nova Beta's rather than stable version. Tbh the BETA's are very stable and offer a big array of new updated features too.
