Android updates have bricked devices before. You get the nice little Android icon with an exclamation point in triangle above its chest. A quick search for "Marshmallow bricked" gets responses for the M8, Nexus 7, Nexus 9, Note 5, and Mi 3.
Just search here on MR for all the IOS updates that have bricked iPhones and iPads. Apple is even replacing iPad pros because the latest IOS update bricked them.

I think you missed my point. I wasn't saying Android is horrible, just pointing out that the idea that Android updates never brick devices is wrong.

I would agree with you on the surface as I am sure some have had a bricked device after an Android update. I typically have 14 to 16 Android phones a year. I have never had a bricked Android device yet from an update. But on the other hand I have had two bricked IOS devices in the last 12 months. My iphone 6s+ was bricked and had to be connected to iTunes after an update. Then the same happened to my iPad as well.

Few and far between mate, but it's the biggest stick ios users hit droid users over the head with. Bit hypocritical really when you look at the front page of MR, every second thread is about updates breaking devices. Apparently it doesn't JUST WORK!!!

I didn't say iOS users don't have 6o deal with bad updates. I just get frustrated when people act like their device of choice doesn't have problems. Stop the stupid Androod vs iOS BS and just realize every OS has problems.

Can I just remind you that you were the one who started slagging off upgrades for Android. Men in glass houses and all that...

I just got a notification for an update on Friday hoping it was Android 6.01....it was just a security patch.....AT&T why???!!!

Marshmallow should include all the security patches you have now, because otherwise what's the point. So, let's be honest that this is one steaming pile of horse ****.

You can get the security patches without Marshmallow and Marshmallow can be behind a couple months in terms of security patches if you get base MM.

The only thing we need to be honest about is that you are on some sort of propaganda trip, Slag everything assorted with Samsung off to the hilt. You don't like them. We get it.!!

Just received a notification about a new 400MB update! Unlocked European model here, already on marshmallow a few months ago. This is more than a security update. I hope it brings better battery life.

When a new version of any OS is released do the developers rerelease all security patches? No. OS X 11.5 has all the patches of 11.4 and then some. Same goes for Windows, you name it.

All of you saying that a major is release is not that important is utter nonsense.

I think they're simply saying security patches are more important.

The new update enables Samsung Pay here in Spain, plus a few extras, like Samsung Members app, Themes app now in the app drawer, etc.

Hope to see battery improvements over the next couple of days :)

EDIT: There's also a new one handed mode I believe. Never saw it there before.

Went today to the beach and for the first time I tried auto brightness, since I've read many times that the brightness that way on direct sunlight can become even higher than on manual mode.

I was really amazed at how good the screen was visible at pure direct sunlight. Really really amazing. I could see the brightness turn up even higher than normal.

Also, the latest update fixed an annoying issue since the marshmallow update. Sometimes quick charge would not activate when I connected the charge cable. I had to disconnect the cable and connect it again until the device would turn on quick charge, which was always enabled on settings. Now that issue is fixed. Every time I connect the charge cable now quick charge is automatically recognised.

.

It's same for most devices the auto brightness mode often includes higher ramping of brightness or sometimes software tricks on other devices which ramp the contrast level of the content on screen to make it more viewable in direct sunlight.

I always use auto brightness myself no matter what device i have :)

No one is stopping them from releasing security patches for marshmallow, or you want it it to be lollipop for next 10 years like windows xp? Also lets not ignore the fact that marshmallow has some security and privacy features that lollipop doesn't.

So i will repeat it again. It's nonsense.

I just powered up the s6, checked for updates. Turns out Samsung pushed out last month's patch at the end of the month. Checked and it seems they've been getting all of the patches for the last five months or so. Maybe more, to be honest. It's good they're taking this whole monthly security patch thing seriously.

I've been getting every month the security update for the past 4/5 months I'd say. Very impressed.

Turned on my S6 just to realize Samsung hasn't updated their browser in forever. I have to wonder what the point of putting it in the store was if they're not going to do anything with it.

Considering upgrading to the S7. Starting tomorrow, there's a new deal on a big retailer here brand new for 540€, down 80€ from it's normal price.

Second hand price is 450€ right now, but ALL of them are gold, which I absolutely hate! I want black.

My main reason to upgrade is microSD and battery. 32GB just barely cuts it. Battery life is always on 3 hours SOT.

Not a huge difference between the two otherwise. Don't know what to do.

Oh, and my S6 has burn-in after only 9 months, and I'm afraid the S7 will have it too.
