Just got to use a bunch of brand new Galaxy S5's at work, and HOLY **** THOSE PHONES SUCKS BALLS, AND TOUCHWIZ IS A DISASTER OF A MESS.

I know the S5 is a year old, but my work just got a bunch of new S5's for the office today, and I had to set them up, and holy Jesus, does the S5 Touchwiz UI just blow. It felt like something from an S3 made three years ago. Super laggy, very ugly and outdated looking UI, like something from the Android 2.1 days.

I seriously had to check the phones, to make sure they were indeed S5's and not some S4 or older phone. They just felt so slow, ugly looking OS.

Granted, this is a fresh out of the box Sprint Galaxy S5, so it's needs updating, and a brand new phone is always laggy during setup, etc... But my God it just felt like an awful experience. No frigging way would I take an S5 for free. Just makes phones like the OnePlus One feel like light years apart, phones following more of the stock vanilla Android OS seems so much lighter, smoother, and overall look nicer. Why did Samsung keep this butt ugly Gingerbread theme in Touchwiz, even on the S5 ? And the menu is confusing on the S5, not straightforward like stock Android.

My point is, the new S6 better have a majorly revised Touchwiz, and completely all new UI, otherwise I don't care if the S6 is made from diamonds and sapphires, the Touchwiz UI will bring it down, if it's anything remotely close to horrible S5 Touchwiz.

I am extremely upset. I was looking forward to the S6 as a alternative phone to my 4S. Unfortinetly, no Micro SD card, no removeable battery, and it is not water resistant brought me down. :( . The one reason why people went from Apple was because of the reliability and the freedom with Android. Looks like its time to hunt down a S5

Holy cow, I can't take it anymore. Am I living in the twilight zone or something ? All the nerds creaming their pants over the Galaxy S6, and tech sites claiming it's the best Android smartphone ever created by man. Blah, blah, blah  Get a grip people, it isn't all that, your just fooled by the metal and glass.

It's funny sad how people diss the One M9 for being the same boring metal design as the M8, but Samsung finally comes out with a metal and glass built phone, and it's the second coming of Jesus. I ask this, put a case on the S6 or even the M9, and that beautiful metal design is almost instantly lost an forgotten with that case on. And the majority of the public does indeed slap cases on their phones.

And then that leaves what you actually see and use daily, which is the OS and UI itself, not the fancy glass back or cool blue colors of the phone, but the actual operation of Touchwiz or Sense or Vanilla Android. And IMO Tocuhwiz still sucks, they just removed some pre-installed apps, but it's still the same ol Touchwiz from like the Note 4 running Lollipop, meaning same icons, same messed up menu not matching stock Android's menus whatsoever, still taking up a lot of RAM space. Where's this all new Touchwiz supposedly like a Nexus OS ? LOL, was never gonna happen.

And then look at what Samsung removed;

- No more water resistance
- No more removable battery
- No more SD Card slot
- Smaller battery
- But hey, it's now metal and glass on the back and super thin = sexy Android phone

I guess my point is, I am shocked at how tech geeks get sucked in with the metal and glass design and give a pass on the same ol Touchwiz or smaller battery, or no more waterproof. But because the S6 is an iPhone like design, it's awesome now all of a sudden. And then I am also surprised how superficial people are, that HTC keeps the award winning design of the M8, with the M9, and now that phone sucks, even though it has a faster processor, more RAM, better camera, bigger battery, new OS, new UI. But because it looks the same as last years model, it blows

Would be nice to actually tell us what phone you're rocking right now. I wouldn't be surprised if it's missing a few items off that list you have. The only phone to have all those features mentioned was the Galaxy S5 and it doesn't sound like you own one.

Gotta be in it to win it
Hopefully the competition this year pushes Apple to give it the spec bump people would love to see.

However, even if they don't, I think Apple will sell the iPhone just fine. Their branding is just so strong, nearly invincible. And in some ways, that's part of the problem.

Part of what problem? Lousy sales and financials?

I think he means that Apple isn't being more aggressive with specs because people will buy it anyway due to strong brand recognition. While that may be partly true, the iPhone is a strong seller mostly because of the experience it providers users with, including continuity with other Apple products.

I've watched every video about the S6 I can find on YouTube, and all I can think of in every video is... ugh, TouchWiz. I just. Don't. Like it. What happened to Android Silver? I want more hardware choices for stock Android than just a couple Motorola devices.

Touchwiz looks just fine on the S6. always had nova on my devices anyway. Never ruined any experience for me. It's overrated for those who moan about it.

I don't get the issue with TouchWiz either but that's the beauty of android. I can change almost anything to my liking. I also love and use Nova Prime.

You can somewhat mitigate Touchwiz with your own custom launcher, but the real problem is that the Samsung and carrier bloat is going to be there no matter what unless you root and this isn't something the average user can or will do. They not only eats up internal storage, but the key issue here is risk of bloat causing negative wakelock interactions that causes needlessly high battery drain which AFAIK is a luck of the draw. All those incredibly battery life reviews with Samsung devices? Says nothing with software updates etc down the line.

Everyone I know personally who switched from Samsung to Apple did so to get away from that ********.

That's up to them I guess but I would rather deal with touchwiz than the limitations of IOS. All of the main things I do on my note I could never do with my iPhone.

I'm using the s5 and I think the problem is you. I think someone else from your work must be more capable than you and setup these galaxies without hassle.

Ha, NOT

Sorry was pissed off after an evening of setting up new S5's for all my office mates. Was a frustrating experience. Especially since they wanted all thier texts and emails and all settings saved from thier old S3's ported to the new S5 and none of them are rooted with Titanium Backup. It wasn't hard, just time consuming. And I was shocked Touchwiz still looked like Gingerbread era Androtd on a brand new 2014 model.

BS ? What do you mean ?

My office has had S3's for two + years, and they've been talking about getting new S5's for a while now. And they finally got them this week, and I was in charge of setting them up.

My boss asked me to help set his up, and transfer everything exactly as is on to his new S5. And while doing so, I just took note how outdated Touchwiz looked still, I thought it had a more updated look on the S5 ? But then again that was a fresh out of the box brand new Sprint S5, not updated yet at that point. So it was running Android 4.2 before I did the update.

Your company is ok with you rooting company phones being used for company information? Why bypass all the built in security? There are tools to use to manage mobile devices for work/enterprise use that does not involve rooting.
You put your company at risk.

OK so they were running 1 year old firmware not 4.2.2 or 4.3 or 4.4.2 or 4.4.4 or lollipop 5.0 or even the brand new 5.0.1 update then.

Get back to us using lolliopop on them!

I think he was saying it was a pain to transfer all their stuff without them being rooted and being able to use titanium

Its the same story told over and over here. I had a bad experience with Samsung on my S3 or S2 so they all suck.

All of their emails should be on the server to be recovered/synced on the new device. Best practices say do not store too much data on company mobile devices. They can be lost or stolen too easily. I do IT Security/Risk assessment for a living. That violates so many industry best practices.

Aye I totally agree, they probably wanted to keep their texts and app data which can be a pain to transfer, or impossible?

yeah i agree that stuff is a pain to move over. But it depends on what solution you use. We sandbox our text applications. They texts are stored and can be recovered at anytime. Appdata is a hack waiting to happen. The phone storage should be encrypted too. Anyway I work for large financial investment company. With recent events in the news, security is on the forefront. One event can ruin reputations.

That's right. No emails transferred over, they just wanted thier texts, app settings, and pictures all transferred over and setup exactly like thier S3's were.

The work phones aren't really used for the hardcore part of the job. That's all kept on the office computers and secured laptops only. The phones are more for sales calls and that's it.

Not sure about app data, but backup SMS is a pretty good text message transfer tool, it even transfers MMS. I also agree with you on touchwiz, the dialer and contacts apps on my note look very gingerbread like. At least they're finally getting better with lollipop.
