I think the color shifting on the edges would be very distracting. Also I think the distortion would be annoying. It looks strange to me seeing the edges curve in the notification bar, and videos and pictures curving would be distracting. After seeing that video I will definately go with the S6 and not the S6 Edge.
Wasn't the color shifting just from the reflection of the color of the phone?
It seemed the color was from the color of the phone reflecting on the curved sides. So in the video it was green because the phone was green. I wonder what it would be like on a white phone?

That's what I thought too, and so did some commenters, but she seems convinced it's the screen. I'm just going to wait for the full reviews.

Still thinking the A8X on the iPad air 2 outperforms the S6 processor plus the air 2 is pushing less pixels........:D

A8 only outperform s6 in single core & Manhattan on screen test.
Don't forget that a8x is a tablet soc. I think there are reasons why apple choose to put a8x in ipad instead of iPhone.

The real competition will begin when a9 & snapdragon 820 comes out since both are 14nm, same as s6 processor.

Will probably be determined more by the task being performed.

The architectures are quite different and each will excel in certain areas, but I do expect the A9 to be impressively muscled for a phone chip.

Now will Apple gimp it with a puny battery, and 1GB of Ram? That's what I am really wondering.

i havent had an android device ever since the samsung s2.

can the s6's touchwiz be replaced by cyanogenmod? has that been historically happening for all the samsung s- phones? if so, what would the downsides be? would it lose camera speed optimization and such?

the s6 is probably the first to tempt me away from iOS. i still have an iphone 5 and was gonna upgrade to the iphone 6s but this samsung phone is looking pretty good. especially that camera which is a huge selling point for me.

i'll probably stick with the non-edge version though. not seeing the benefit of the curved edges at all.

Honestly I'm sure both will be powerhouses. Does anything even really push these cpu ?

Probably not much. Many app developers will not release a game that runs well only on high-end specs, because that would be locking themselves out of the mass market who are using older phones.

Exactly, which is why I find specs chasers so baffling on Android when the most of the popular games are virtually 2D only (including on iOS). Why should I pay 4x more for a Samsung when a Xiaomi can suffice for 2D gaming, OLED is nice but not as the ridiculous price differential, and is also the real reason why high-end Android is a dying breed.

You would lose a ton of functionality without touchwiz. I'm sure there will be a CM for the S6. I ran CM on my Note 4 for a bit, I wasn't impressed other than it was pretty smooth, but at a massive functionality loss.

Just curious, what sort of functionality? If it's all the S stuff (s voice) etc then I don't mind.

T mobile leaked out the price for the USA model.699 and that is 49 cheaper then an unlocked gs5 for Verizon at best buy.

If this rumor is true the gs6 is the same price as the gs5 and gives you an extra 16gb storage

That's good. They're trying to be aggressive to win back customers

20M pre-ordered by carriers.

I see a RECORD-BREAKING year for Samsung. A bump in the road in 2014 only to rebound this year . I guess they needed failure to change themselves. I guess Samsung's success is similar to the 2014 Hollywood box office which was terrible only for 2015 to potentially break records thanks to Avengers 2, Jurassic World, Ant-Man, and Star Wars 7 later in Dec. Ironically, 2015's biggest moneymaker in Avengers: Age of Ultron is sponsored by Samsung. And what about 2016? Summer Olympics! The Galaxy S7/S7e could be the hero phones in Rio just like the S3 was during Summer 2012 in London.

I am very happy for Samsung if 2015 will be a BIG BIG year for them financially. Unlike in 2012-2013, I actually feel they DESERVED their success for this year. S6 Edge is a hot, hot-looking phone. Just imagine a slight indent on both sides can make a Samsung phone look so cool. But in design, it always is in the smallest details that can make the biggest difference. Apple did it with the 5s. Make that cool ring around the Touch ID and offered one in gold. Record numbers over the original 5 just by tiny cosmetic changes. Kudos, Samsung. This could be your year again even with some obvious physical feature omissions.

^ Samsung's biggest galaxy success was actually the S3. Both S4 & S5 sales (even factoring in the myriad variations) were comparatively unsuccessful.

Likewise the last two years Samsung has boasted projected sales targets of the S4 & S5 (claiming 100 million projected for the S5) but failed to hit even 40% of those figures. Still fantastic sales - just not what your shareholders expect given the fact of previous success of the S3 and the boardroom PR Rhetoric subsequently.

So yeah the S6 being a success is needed big time. It's noticeable that the boasted projected sakes targets haven't materialised this year either. Samsung seem to be learning. It just takes them a long time....

If, and this is a big if, Samsung has got the battery life reasonable on the S6, then I see huge sales for them. Everyone is talking about the phone - how sharp it looks, the wraparound screen (on the edge) etc. It's generating a lot of buzz and that hasn't happened for Samsung in a long time.

This is the one phone that may tempt me back to Samsung. Just maybe.

Samsung reportedly bags record 20 million pre-orders for the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy

WOW! 20 million and counting and a month to go.

A report from The Korea Times cites a “top executive at a leading mobile carrier” who said that Samsung has received 20 million pre-orders for the new smartphones. “This is the record,” the executive is quoted as saying, he also added that his company has come away with a “positive impression” of all aspects of the two new Galaxy S smartphones. Samsung’s carrier partners really do seem to be betting big on these devices. During MWC Samsung’s mobile chief J.K. Shin said that pre-orders of the two Galaxy variants from the company’s major clients “are really huge.” Shin expects sales of the Galaxy S6 to be higher than its predecessor.

I won't be pre-ordering, but I will be fondling the demo models with great enthusiasm as soon as they turn up. Especially the Edge model.
I talked to the Samsung guy at BB today. He said they might get demo models in a couple of weeks.

Can't wait to get my hands on the GS6 Edge. That green one tho ###### I'm interested in seeing if it'll outsell the regular GS6, considering all the attention seems to be on the Edge. Sammy looks to have really knocked it outta the park with the next gen Galaxies. I expect record breaking sales for them.

I personally like the edge better. Currently though, it seems the carriers expect the regular G6 to be the bigger seller by a very large margin. The 20 million is made up of 15 Million Regular GS6 and 5 million GS6 Edge.
