Galcon is by far the best thing in the App store for the iPhone. It takes advantage of everything the iPhone does well. Worth the $10, but be wary, it WILL suck up some of your free time.

Wow it's quite fun. Very natural game for the touch screen.

I'm up to Lieutenant in the online ranks now too, with 14 wins. :)

The online play is very smooth - they should add a system like that to the Apple Texas Hold'em.

It costs $20 on the desktop. Further, I'd say that the touch screen is a BETTER way of playing it.

So it has better controls for half the price.

And that's not good enough?

Bejeweled 2 makes even more sense (same, desktop = $20 and App Store = $10)...and it pretty much has been fully ported AND has global high scores...but will we ever convince those App Store peoples? Nope.

Price drop please, I mean if this thing drops to $5, automatic download.

Why do people always complain for price drops..... developers work really hard to make these applications. As mentioned, the desktop version is $20.

Anyways, I bought this when it came out. Didn't regret it at all and loved the game. Now with online it's even better!! AMAZING

I'm not complaining, I've bought several games and tools from the app store, and just reviewing them it seems like most of them are the 5-7 range. I know programmers take time on porting and programming. But I'm sure I'm not the only one hesitant to buying this game compared to something around the $5 range. Again this is just my opinion so people lighten up

The demo video on the galcon.com website is hilarious, enough to convince me to buy it.

I wish the game had that music from the video. Seems kinda lazy to leave music out entirely; I don't want to mess around with the iPod music player when I'm not in the mood to listen to my music.

This game is worth every penny. Trust me $10 is worth it for this game.

Multiplayer is difficult (I only have 1 win so far). The people on there are masters of this game. Just play and not worry about losing. You will get the hang of it soon enough.

The multiplayer is so fast and responsive. I am impressed.

what is the basic strategy for this game. I get completely pwned when playing online.

Play the normal mode against the computer on the easiest setting (flag furthest on the left).

The computer's pretty nice to you at that level, so you can actually learn what you're doing.

As you start doing better, raise your rank to make the computer harder. I wouldn't even worry about playing online until you can beat the computer 50% of the time on the rank of 'Captain.'

Even then you'll get beat a lot, but you'll at least be able to keep up.

I've enjoyed it so far. It's a little different without there being any kind of campaign.

There are the 10 levels difficulty levels, which is sort of a lot when you think about it. Say you choose level one, then classic mode, when you win, it just says new map or retry, even when you lose, except for good job and a time. Kind of no sense of accomplishment, not even a time rank for each level. Maybe that's where multi-player comes in.

When doing new map it will just randomly generate on level 1 forever until you go into the manual and change it. I wish it could just auto switch to level 2, then 3, so you can literally play 10 levels, maybe randomly insert other modes during that. Seeing how addictive the game can be, it would be nice to just have some auto campaign mode as you play.

With each level, seems you have to change tactics to stay ahead or even unless wiped out quickly. Some tricks not immediately apparent is redirecting ships mid flight. Only until I saw the AI do it, where you an select a group of moving ships like a planet. Also select one planet with a tap, then tap it again to select all planets. Or select on by one, downside to that is if you want to send ships to one of your own planets, you need to do press and drag method or you end up wasting time accidentally selecting both planets.

I've had one good long session where the entire map was taken up and power kept shifting back and forth. Otherwise, I think at level 5, most games average about a minute. I need to try other modes besides stealth and classic though.

It would be interesting if the developer ever introduced some kind of unique spin on the gameplay. Like maybe planets having limited resources. And if one was fought for too long, it could explode. Or power ups. But all that might not fit with the quick gameplay and strategy.

I'm enjoying the game, too. The fast past nature definitely gets me hooked, though I wish there was some sort of campaign/story line in Classic along with Ranking just to add to the experience and positive feedback of winning.

I just started playing in Vacuum, Stealth doesn't appeal to me since I like seeing the enemy move like in other strategy games, it gives me a sense of competing against someone, even if it's the computer.

So far the games have been only a 2-3 mins long and I haven't gone to one where all planets were occupied.

I'm looking forward to checking out Net Game when I get home.
