So, I’d thought I’d start a thread for gaming on M1.

here’s a link to a google spreadsheet that the r/Macgaming community put together.

******* See this link for latest updated list **********

I just got my M1 mini 16/512 I’m impressed to say the least.

I’m a tinker and like to screw around with different things.

(that’s actually the reason I bought an M1 Mac.)

installed crossover > installed steam

Games I got to work

GTA IV (Windows on ARM) Parallels

(runs well 45-60+ FPS mix of medium and high settings) 1920x1080

GTA V (Windows on ARM) Parallels framerate isn't great but for a proof of concept it runs ! (see here)

https://www.reddit.com/r/macgaming/comments/kfwto4
With the amount of emulation going on i'm surprised it even launches !

Spintires Original (Windows on ARM) Parallels (Smooth)

Assetto Corsa (Crossover Steam) 1920x1080 (Smooth Gameplay)

street legal racing redline (Crossover steam)

** Considering how buggy this game is, even on windows.. I'm surprised it even runs..**

Farming Simulator 2019 (Crossover Steam 1920x1080) (Medium)

** You must go into documents and open "game.xml".

Change <fullscreen>true</fullscreen

to <fullscreen>false</fullscreen>

save

launch game **Slight graphical issues but overall works well.**

Farming Simulator 2017 Crossover Steam 1920x1080) (Medium)

** You must go into documents and open "game.xml".

Change <fullscreen>true</fullscreen

to <fullscreen>false</fullscreen>

save

launch game (no graphical glitches like FS19)

Farming Simulator 2013 Crossover Steam 1920x1080) (Medium)

** You must go into documents and open "game.xml".

Change <fullscreen>true</fullscreen

to <fullscreen>false</fullscreen>

save

launch game (UI is offset and stutters) quite a bit.

Project Cars (Crossover Steam)

Mafia III DE (Crossover Steam) \*\* You need to rename “launcher.exe” to something like “me.exe”.

Then scroll down rename MafiaIIDE.exe to “launcher.exe” and launch from the root folder.

It will launch to a blackscreen

Exit out and go to /Users/"account name"/Library/Application Support/CrossOver/Bottles/"bottle name"/drive_c/users/crossover/Local Settings/Application Data/2K Games/Mafia III/Saves/videoconfig.cfg

Open Videoconfig.cfg

and change the included line to "-6 31 1920 1080 0 0 0 0 0" (without the quotes)

Severe graphical issues, but it launches and runs...

Mafia II DE (Crossover Steam) ** You need to rename “launcher.exe” to something like “me.exe”.

Then scroll down rename MafiaIIDE.exe to “launcher.exe” and launch from the root folder.

Stranded Deep (DX11) (Crossover Steam) (1920x1080) Medium (Smooth)

Car Mechanic Simulator 2018 (Crossover Steam) (1920x1080) Medium (Smooth)

Fallout 4 (Crossover Steam) (Smooth gameplay)

My Summer Car (Crossover Steam) Golden Eye (No vsync) (Smooth gameplay)

Wreck Fest (Crossover Steam) (Smooth Gameplay)

BeamNG.Drive (v.21) (Windows on ARM)

See here

BeamNG.Drive (Crossover Steam) 0.14.5 (DX10)

Rigs of Rods (Crossover)

Spintires MudRunner (1920x1080) Medium

World of Warships (1920x1200) Medium (Crossover Steam)

Games that don’t work

Automation (Crossover Steam) (Launches but has graphical glitches in engine designer)

Spintires Original (Launches then crashes at intro)

Space Engineers (Launches then crashes)

Scrap Mechanic (Launches then crashes)

Farming simulator 2017 (Launches then says that shader model 3.0 is required)

Maple story (Crossover steam) (Steam reports its running but no sign of activity)

Feel free to post games you got to work on M1

Through

the Mac App Store

Native (Rosetta) MacOS steam

Windows on ARM (WoA Parallels)

Crossover steam

Side loaded

I have no way of tracking FPS as of yet, (maybe someone knows how?) all games that have worked so far resulted in smooth gameplay.

How's Cyberpunk 2077? If not locally can it be played through browser on Stadia?

guys over on R/MacGaming says Cyber punk works just fine with GeForce now.

I didn’t buy CP yet so I can’t test it on crossover but I believe it’s a DX12 game, and wine/proton/crossover doesn’t support DX12 translation.

I believe metal is also missing a few things to implement it.

Baldur's Gate 3 works great (on GOG). I don't use Steam so can't help on that platform.

However, if you run it from the GOG launcher, the machine runs hot (~80C w/ fan ~ 2000rpm) and it crashes often. If you don't start the GOG launcher and run the game directly, then the machine runs cooler (~low 70C and the fan never goes above 1200rpm). At least that's been my experience. Since the game is still in EA, the performance will probably get better over time.

Using a MacBook Pro M1, 16G RAM.

Tom's Hardware tried it on a MacBook on Stadia. Has a few good points about quality presets, ethernet/wifi, FPS, bugs.

Article doesn't specify if it's MB M1 or x64 (my guess it's the later). Someone has gotten Stadia to work on M1 by forcing VP9 software decode but CPU utilization is around 40% with possible lag but no YouTube video exists yet of anyone playing Cyberpunk 2077 via Stadia on M1.

Civilisation 6 through steam has not given me any problems. Runs through rosetta AFAIK.

Is GeForce Now Apple Silicon compatible? Because, that might be a must now that Apple Silicon Macs are out and don't have the capability of natively running x86 operating systems.

Metal should be fine. Given the minimum PC requirements, M1 Macs should be able to run it on 1080p low. But I don't think this game will ever be ported to Metal.

They shouldn't be porting anything until they fix all of the bugs the game launched with. The game also apparently plays like frozen molasses on both the PS4 and Xbox One, even though CD Projekt Red supposedly wrote the game for those platforms originally.
