I notice that the Samsung Gear app is now officially installable on other Android handsets. Does that mean the Fit 2 & Gear S2 now work properly with other Android phones (not just Samsung models).

I've seen new Gear Fit 2 on sale for less that €150 and the S2 for €200, but if it locked you to only one android device maker I wouldn't bother buying.

Anyone experience with either device working with non Samsung devices ??

If so - did everything work or were there lingering issues ?

Also how I'd the battery. I had the iriginal Gear Fit and would get 2-2.5 days battery tops. Has this improved ?

Gear S2 does work with any android yeah.

From what I've heard it works fine but can't comment as only used it on my S7 edge. Battery life on the gear is very good. Better than the apple watch for battery life I would say.

Thanks matey. I didn't realise they had finally delivered multi-android support. That does make it more interesting. Are there rumours of either being refreshed soon ? Wondering why the price has come down - are retailers just clearing stock ?

Almost 3 days on my s2, love it, as long as you have the always on screen turned off. Just had a new Os update as well,
I hear things about not having a big app store or a killer app. All irrelevant on a small screen, it's a notification device, so at best I use 10 apps and it works perfectly. Plus the watch face app with a 1000 faces is brilliant.
I can't praise it enough. 170 pounds new off ebay, great price.

Apart from different hardware, I'd wager the software Is gonna be v similar, so right now the s2 will be a great deal if the prices have dropped.

Yeah the price is very tempting. I just want basic functionality (fitness tracking and such) so a bazillion apps doesn't really want me to pay over the odds.

I'll keep an eye on the price and if it drops a few more euro I'll jump :)

I would get the one with HSPA+ or LTE radios to use away from the phone too. I saw some refurbs for $150 USD a few days ago. I will inquire about it myself, so I might get a 4G version to go with my S7.

Wish the S3 was being announced with the Note 7, although maybe we'll see a Note 7 BOGO and free S3 deal later in the year similar to the BOGO note 5 and S2 deals we saw last year. Very excited for the S3. How is the Tizen app market? Have they caught up at all? My last experience with them was when I had my Gear S, which was an awesome smartwatch.

Never looked at the tizen app market. Love it for the gorgeous display, rotating bezel and beautiful look. Only use it for notification, steps, sleep tracking and time.

I have the gear s2 classic

It is, by far, the best looking smartwatch out there. How do you cycle between charging the watch and having it monitor your sleep cycles? I charge all my gear overnight and usually don't have time to charge in the mornings.

Take it of for my shower at 9pm, at 10.30pm it's fully charged as it only loses 35% a day, so u can sleep with it on, 3 day battery life is awesome.

I normally charge it in the evening when I don't take much steps anymore.

Battery life is great, at the moment it has lost 26% in 22 hours.

I'm waiting also on the Gear S3. Prices here for the S2 classic second hand are also 199€. Very very tempting, specially to go with my S6. I would like the 4G version, but I think that's an US exclusive I believe.

Also, I think the S3 will probably have a higher resolution screen and even better battery life, which are very important. Maybe even a loudspeaker for calls? Or more RAM, faster CPU, BT 4.2, new features, etc.

Have you looked at the LG Urbane? I added an LTE 2nd gen to my wrist a couple weeks back and love it. Great looking and picks up some functionality over the Gear S I also have.

Wow, they look amazing. Are they proper screen shots, or just renders tho..

marketing shots but the screen really is that nice. happy to post some of mine if needed but google and others have them too. well worth the look.

I initially bought an LTE Gear S2 but was bummed at the features it lost over the original Gear S in terms of ease of use. I passed on the Urbane as the Rev 1 was recalled last Nov. but the Rev 2 came out in April and I promised I'd wait a couple three months to see if the bugs were worked out. No regrets at all.

I use both but the only thing is when using either, the default texting app has to be changed back and forth. Not a huge pain but still a glitch that has to be worked out. The Gear uses the Samsung Text app and the Urbane needs Google Messenger to be used. At least in order to sync and receive messages, etc.

Beautiful watch, just a tad too large for my taste.

The urbane is one the best looking smart watches out, my only gripes with the look is that it's too big and that you can't replace the bands.

agree on the bands but I suppose that's the trade-off when the watch is metal vs plastic. the antenna has to be somewhere. Thankfully the stock one isn't too bad.

The gear s2 classic LTE has a metal body and let's you replace the bands. I would love to see the urban's LTE design only smaller with a metal band, I think that would look great.
