Hi Lloyd,
I need , if possible, your help:

I’ve a S3 Frontier BT (non LTE version) and in Settings / Bluetooth of my IPhone 6 I can find two S3 devices: a Gear S3 (8F9A) LE, combined properly, and a Gear S3 (8F9A) that I can not combine in any way. However, when I try to make a call, a pop up tells me that both devices must be paired.
S3 and Iphone are well paired; wifi and BT always connected.

I’ve seen your post #29 but I’m not sure about what to do.

Have you maybe a tip?
One more question: How can I upload music via Iphone ?
Many thanks for your help.
I'm not sure about the call issue? When all else fails, I simply factory reset the watch, click forget the watch in the phone BT settings and try again.

As for music, this is done via a PC and your watch. Go to the music app on your watch and then click the little phone icon on the top right of the screen, so it changes to a watch icon. Now slide from the bottom of the screen up. This will bring up the Library menu. Rotate the bezel till you scroll to Manage Tracks. Click that and follow the directions. Basically, you will input an ip address into your browser on the PC that has your music (something like 192.168.30.277:3000) and that will allow you to transfer music files over WiFi.
This is not ideal, but until the iOS app is finalised, it is the only option.

Many many thanks.

So just to verify, does messaging not work on all carriers or is not an option for the gear S3 period? Love the watch so far, so much more aesthetically pleasing than the iwatch!

Receiving messages should be no problem. Sending responses back is where the issue is.

Is the S3 able to use Samsung pay without being connected to the samsung phone? Can you still use it even though it is paired with your iphone?
I haven't bothered because it is a PIA to use Samsung Pay on the watch. Having to always put a PIN in just to use the watch functionality makes it a non-starter for me. I can understand needing to punch in your pin to use Samsung Pay, but not every friggin time I want to check a notification or open an app!

Hi Guys,

I have the new S3 frontier (australian version) and have it running with the deta software on an iphone 6 plus.

One thing that im finding irritating is that when someone calls it only shows the number of the caller and the name of the person. What am i doing wrong? I can see all my iPhone contacts in the contact list just fine, but the watch refuses to display the callers name when an incoming call comes through.

Cheers

Thinking about getting the s3 as well, but the lack of apps worries me. Especially workout ones.

Loving my Gear S3 Classic thus far.

There aren't loads of apps for it but tbh I didn't want loads, and prefer the relative simplicity.

Haven't received the big software update yet (I think).

I bought the s3 frontier and using it with my 6s plus. At 24 hours thing are going well. After I first paired it, I had the connection issues so I did a soft reset on the watch and paired again. Since then connection has been much better. Going to try a run with it tonight so see how the gps works.

I have used the Apple Watch a lot but do like the s3 frontier much better. Doesn't integrate as well, but I feel just looks so much better than the Apple Watch.

Here is my review after wearing the Samsung Gear S3 Classic for the past 5 weeks having purchased it through #InsidersGearS3 - for the first week, I used it with a Google Pixel, and for the past 4 weeks, it's been paired with my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge...

====================================================

The smartwatch industry has taken a bashing recently, but Samsung have done a superb job of refining the Gear brand - with the S3 being the culmination of their unrivalled grasp on crafting the best hardware around. Having used a variety of smartwatches, trackers and platforms over the past 5 years, the S3 Classic is by far the best all-round (and all round!) timepiece for most parameters.

The aforementioned hardware is simply stunning, and makes the most sense within the traditional confines of what a "watch" has meant to us over the generations. This means a circular display, and combined with a rotating bezel that is a far more naturalistic way to navigate settings than a rotating "digital crown", it's easy enough to customise the S3 to your like (although, as with any product, there is always some fiddling around at the beginning).

In terms of looks, this for me is the most "watch-like" smartwatch there has been. Put it this way - I had a professional photoshoot recently and saw a couple of sample shots of me. The S3 Classic looks absolutely at home in that situation, whereas the old Nike Fuelband, the couple of Fitbits I've had, the various Android smartwatches I've had too all looked out of place. The only one that looked OK was the Apple Watch and I personally think this looks far better on wrist. Most people don't seem to realise it's a smartwatch, which is a genuine compliment.

The watch strap provided is a simple but elegant black leather variant, and Samsung have made it easy to swap it out for any standard 22mm strap. I've tried it myself with old watch straps, and it's wonderful way to transform the entire look and feel of the S3 Classic - at potentially no extra cost, if you happen to have other straps/watches just sitting there. I had a brown leather one lying about and it looks lovely with the Classic.

Battery life is possibly the biggest area where the S3 excels. It has averaged 3.5 days of usage, and that's getting to the point where the Battery Saver mode hasn't actually activated yet. In other words, if you're going on a weekend away, you shouldn't need to take another charger with you - even if the magnetic dock Samsung have provided is marvellously easy to use. I will caveat that with people use tech in different ways, but my experience is over 5 whole weeks.

Software is the one obvious area that needs work: there are simply not many apps available for the Gear S3. Plenty of watch faces, yes - but not apps. This needs urgent work but in complete fairness, the way I use a smartwatch means that this absence of apps doesn't make a big difference. I just want health/fitness tracking, notifications from my phone and for it too look good. I would never be sat there scrolling through Instagram on my watch. I wanted this watch to simplify my life and keep me AWAY from my phone! And it does that well.

Tizen OS is fast and fluid, and I've had zero connectivity issues. It's brilliant, albeit a little bit faffy and in need of customisation at times. Obviously Android Wear 2.0 is coming out within the next few weeks, so it will be interesting to see the comparisons, but I do think Samsung is winning the OS battle but losing the Apps war.

The main areas a smartwatch needs to excel in:

- Does it look good?
- Can you change the watch strap easily?
- Can you get 3 days of battery life?
- Is the software fast and fluid?
- Does it connect to your phone reliably?
- Does it free your from your phone?
- Is the health and fitness aspect useful?
- Are there a variety of apps easily available?

Every one of these - apart from the final one - gets a resounding 'Yes'. You are no longer tied to your phone - you can receive notifications, reply, take calls (which works really well). S Health will motivate you to move more (I've lose 6lbs since starting to wear the Classic just 5 weeks ago!). It looks great, the battery life is exemplary, and it has a premium feel. Get more apps out, and it would receive an almost perfect score.

It's a keeper.

I've owned the frontier version since launch but never paired it with my iPhone when they (finally) released the iOS app as the writing was already on the wall for my iPhone. After being dissatisfied with Fitbits and scratching up quite badly one of my wristwatches, i decided last year i was going to get a smartwatch.

I was never keen on an apple watch as i'm a bit of a watch aficionado and a traditionalist in the sense that i like my watches to look like watches above all. Added the one day battery life, i'm so glad i passed on that. While i charge my S3 everyday, there have been days when i do not sit it correctly on its cradle so i am happy for extra couple of days of juice.

I'm chuffed with this thing and pairing it to my S7 Edge has made it even more useful and brought out more possibilities. Gonna keep one eye on the S4 whenever that is released. Will go for the classic version as it seems to look a bit classier with certain straps. My only hope is like Apple they introduce two versions for the S4. One with a smaller dial for the ladies and one with a larger dial than the S3 for the gents and keep selling the S3 at lower cost alongside it.

I came very close to buying a Gear S3 Frontier to use with my iPhone 6S plus but in the end could not do it. I loved that watch and wanted a round smartwatch with its own LTE. I already had/have an AW Series 1 and like it but wanted the ability to not be tethered to phone, and have better sleep monitoring support (I had to manually start my AW sleep app which I sometimes forgot to do). Even though I loved the look, screen, and battery life of the S3 there are just too many concessions to be made when using it with an iPhone. Heck, there are concessions to be made if using it with a non-Samsung Android phone.

I was even ready to get a Samsung phone to use the S3, but one thing stopped me: SVoice. Good gawd is that terrible. I love using Siri on my iPhone and SVoice simply cannot compare to either Siri or Google Assistant. Thankfully it looks like SVoice will soon be relic of the past as Samsung switches to Bixby. Will have to see how well that turns out.

Plus there is a new kid in town, Android Wear 2.0, and it is much improved. So I bought an LG Smart Watch Sport--and an LG V20 phone using two AT&T promos (half price for phone and $50 for watch). This watch works wayyyyyy better with iOS than Gear watches, and it works better even on its own. You don't even need to use a phone to load apps, though you can if you want to. It work flawlessly with AT&T Number Sync on both my iPhone and new LG phone so I can receive/send calls from/to my main number. It of course can't use iMessage but on my new phone I can send and receive texts from my regular number.

Google Assistant works really well, though it works so good on my LG V20 that I won't really need it unless I don't have my phone on me at all. I spoke "OK Google take me home" to my watch while driving and the V20 in my pocket heard it as well (I was used to Siri only working when the screen was face-up unobstructed).

It also worked with my Hue lighting with any phone app needed. That was a surprise.

Alas the battery life is not that great yet, but considering it has a bigger battery than the S3 I'm hoping that is just growing pains. It's about the same as my Apple Watch, which I could live with, though I was hoping for better.
