according to device-id of imac's 4850- 944A, its mobility version(http://www.x.org/wiki/Radeon ASICs) , it has full 800 SP, but lower clocks than desktop version.

3dmark06 highly depends on cpu, better compare 3dmark vantage gpu scores.

darkgoob, xbench is ancient, comparing anything with it worth nothing.

to compare graphics, you can use glview, http://www.realtech-vr.com/glview/download.html

need to set highest available settings for test, like 16xAF, 8xAA, check benchmark option, and if cpu load isnt 100%(load of one core, since opengl context is still single threaded) durring test, then it's not cpu bound. and benchmark results is comparable.

here is result of desktop 4850 (625/1000)

Hi,
----
run in terminal:
ioreg -l -w0 -p IODeviceTree | grep device-properties > dump.txt

P.M. the dump please or post it here, I have a 9600 GT(PC) and want to use it w/o reflashing the bios...

Thanks in advance :)
Nobody with GT130?

Hi netkas ;)

EDIT: I was just talking to Apple on the phone, and was referred to the "systems engineer". He said that the Radeon 4850 was the Desktop card, not the mobility variant. I think that is enough evidence for me to believe that we will be getting the real deal. My buddy also did another sales chat and confirmed the same thing.

Desktop Version: 4
Mobility Version: 1

 That just cemented my choice. Thanks for posting.

For the last time the 4850 is not the Desktop version, regardless of what some "engineer" at Apple has to say about it.

I expect it to be the Mobility version. So the conflicting information doesn't phase me. I've always been an ATi customer and I'm not sure I want an iMac based on an nV chipset. nV chipsets were a 'bag of pain' when I last used it in a PC.

This doesn't happen very often but I agree with you that this is the correct statement and fact of the matter. Now only if you would pull your head out of the sand in regard to some other technical issues.

I don't know how any of the people here could expect a desktop gpu in an all in one. The desktop version is this size and in this form factor. If its been modified to work in an all in one or laptop its th mobile version. Its not like cpu which are generally the same size.

Precisely.

You all can debate the GT130 vs 4850 all you want... but there is NO way a desktop card is in the iMac. I can't believe this is even still up for debate. I guess it doesn't help that an Apple engineer is clueless...

Don't count on Apple to always be right. When I called them to confirm whether the card I was getting in my iMac was a ATI 2600 XT or 2600 PRO (There was a typo on Apple's refurb site) they put me on hold to check with a specialist and came back saying "Oh, it's the same thing, just different names". Riiight...
I didn't feel like arguing, but it just goes to show that the folks at Apple aren't always right.
