Currently using 6S and happy about it, but it needs replacing after 3 hard years of work duty. I was considering the XR as my next phone, but I also love the form factor of the SE. Is the SE still up for the job? I feel the XR is a bit too large?

I have both. Totally in love with the Xr. A much better phone

The XR maybe to big for you. The 8 is good in that it has wireless charging, has the same chip as the X which will last for a while and has a much improved camera from the 6S.

Well, I got a black Xr yesterday and it is a bit big, but getting FaceID and larger screen - never going back to iPhone 6 design. Only thing that would tempt me would be a 4,5 inch, slimmer iPhone Xse.

Thanks to all who gave their advice.

Do you have a source for this?
Yea I get amazing all day battery life from my SE - the battery in this thing is simply stellar - I love my SE and will use it for as long as Apple continues to provide OS updates to it!

I'm the odd one out here, I have the SE and love it. Still running iOS10 I can get 3 days battery life, It fits in the front pocket of my jeans, it has a headphone jack, and has given me no problems whatsoever. I dread the thought of having to 'upgrade'
Agreed! I LOVE my SE! Apple just gave me a brand new one after going in for the $29 battery upgrade and they weren’t able to get it out. Will hold on to it for a long time!

SE has the size going for it, but I think what you use it for has a lot to say. When buying the Xr I held it next to the SE in store and the choice was very easy.

I use my phone for photos, instagram and emails at work and the SE is in my opinion too small for that usage.

The SE has one-handedness and lightness, but it is a tad small. Especially when it comes to width and keyboard-typing.

Coming from the 6S, when scrolling through messages and going "up-down-up" scrolling through a conversation I feel are floating a bit closer and further apart from my movement. Can't say my 6S did that?

My dad owns an SE. I own a X. XR has much better battery than X especially when the X is on iOS 12.

Yea, but you said:
aakshey said:
SE gives you 3 hrs of SOT from 100% to 0%. XR gives you maybe 10+ hrs or SOT, maybe even more.

You were very specific.

You're saying an XR has over 3x times more SOT time. I say that BS. Even if you're comparing an aging SE to a brand new XR, the difference is not that big. My dad also has an SE with 89% battery health, and it gets 6+hrs SOT easily.

Either way, my anecdote and your anecdote are not data on the SE model. Neither of us have an apples to apples comparison.

Two days passed. XR is a fantastic phone, but I keep feeling I am dragging it around.

FaceID and camera + battery life is out of this world so it is a stretch thinking about getting an old phone now... Adapt? I always use a case so contemplating getting a thinner one.

if you want a phone that fits in your tight clothes pocket and dont want to procrastinate your life away, get the SE. If you want to live through your phone like some zombie, get the new phones. I got an SE a month ago and to me it seems big now. The new pones encourage bad habits. Before you know it life ends.

This is pretty much "spot on".

Well, the 8 costs almost XR-price

I see. 6S was fine, and I was considering getting an SE to tug for a year. XR looks a bit thick and slightly large? I feel 6S is just about right size-wise.

8 is almost as expensive so I feel that would be like buying old tech at high price.

The SE has the same internals as the 6s. I wouldn’t spend cash on a new phone that’s basically the same phone only a bit smaller. Just get the battery changed by Apple for $/€ 29 and off you go. Or get a 7 if you think the 8 is too expensive.

Yes, I agree. Will stop complaining. I am hoping for a refreshed smaller phone next spring or fall and the SE would be a cheap ticket to use until then.

Sometimes the pricetag might be high for some. If you don't use 3D touch often then the XR is worth the get. For me I use 3D touch extensively so the XR despite having 90-95% same internals wasn't in my books. Also I prefer the XS Max which is my current daily driver. I use 2 hands all the time so honestly I just went for the best of the best...

not to mention i actually use iPhones to make videos for a living (part $$)... that's how good they are.

Now that we’ve seen the new iPad Pro, it’s clear Apple is going to revisit the 4/5/SE design as a pro device. The X series will be rebranded the ‘iPhone Air’ :-D

But my XS is one heavy phone, the Air name wouldn't fit at all :)

Get the XS! It is smaller then the XR!

The main reason why I chose the XS. Similar in size to the 6/6S/7/8 and it's not expensive to get it included in a carrier plan. The SE is still good for some roles. Just not mine.

I certainly wouldn’t get an SE. correct me if I’m wrong but I think the specs are the same. If I were you I’d get a battery replacement instead

Correct. The SE and iPhone 6s share the same A9 processor and 2GB of ram.

My 6S is a bit unstable so a new battery is not enough. Experiencing hick-ups and small freezes pretty often.

I currently rock the XR, but it is heavy and with children around I use a thin case on it. The phone and execution/operation is very solid, fluid and FaceID is spot on.

XS is probably a much better size, but the XR already pushes how much I bother spending on a phone.

I think the post above stating that we are spending a lot of time on our phones on useless activity is valid for many people and I find myself using the XR more. An SE would be used more for "neccessary" stuff and not flicking around.

It is the little things such as being able to have the phone in my front pocket comfortably. The XR I have to take out of my pocket because it feels too large and heavy.

SE in Stellar Grey was back in stock now and I ordered one. I think it will be a delight to get. I will hold out until next year with hopefully a smaller form factor device from apple. I am hoping for a device following the deisgn language of the new iPad Pros.

Me too. I bought an XR yesterday, but I’m returning it today to go back to my SE, and I’ll just hope Apple figures out that some of us still want phones that disappear in our pockets.
