Okay... did a quick speed test earlier and some interesting results.
I ran speed tests from 2 different sites:
http://i.dslr.net/tinyspeedtest.html
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d.h.walker/speedtest.html
The first test was in my flat which gets a full 5 bar signal from O2, but only the GPRS square in the iPhone's status bar. On average, I got between 40-50kbps
The second test was as I walked to the other side of town. I got the 'E' and tested again. This time I got between 90-100kbps
So, maybe I am wrong after all. I'm pretty sure the top speed of GPRS is around 50kbps, so to get anywhere near 100kbps then EDGE *must* be kicking in properly.
Anyone else have any similar results?
Can someone please explain to me how to update the files on my iPhone? I've got the files but have no idea what to do next as I can't access the directories in my iPhone.
Please help. Thanks!
Is your mail app working over Gprs/edge? i cannot access my gmail or hotmail or .mac or any account for that matter over gprs or edge. over wifi i can connect and get my mail. but i have to use the web version via safari to check my gmail over gprs
doesn't work for me either. but it does say on the 02 web page for pay and go bolt ons that "O2 Web Bolt On can only be used for internet browsing on your phone" and, in the terms and conditions:
Permitted Uses are use of your SIM card within a handheld mobile device for the purposes of internet browsing only. Any other use of the O2 Web Bolt On will not be a Permitted Use, including but not limited to:
Email;
Use with Data Cards or Modems;
Instant Messaging,
IP Telephony,
Point 2 Point file sharing and file transfer,
VoIP (e.g. Skype),
Video and TV streaming,
Slingboxes; and
Use in conjunction with routers.
so, no surprise that we can't get our email over GPRS/EDGE.
I've got the same problem as Stevielaw.
I didn't have a proxy.pac file to replace. This may be because the var directory had a little shortcut icon, and when I doubleclicked on this it took me to parent/var, and so I ended up putting the proxy.pac file in the parent/var/root directory.
Can anybody shed any light on this? I'd really like to get EDGE working.
Thanks
Patchh
Just spoken to O2 and EDGE is not active for pay and go...

Hey,Phil...
Could you possibly share the step by step on how to get O2 PAYG with Bolt On to work on my iPhone OOB 1.1.2 (jailbreak) using WINDOWS. much appreciate.
1 download file from first post
2 unzip file and read the .rtf file which tells you were to put the other 3 files
3 open ibrickr(for window only) program that you used to jailbreak your phone
4 in ibrickr click on files then using iphone in ibrickr window navigate to location in .rtf file and upload new files remembering to back up the orignal files frist![]()
Thanks very much jsm1..
But I couldn't figure it out how to back up the original files and proceeded to upload the file to the directories...Stupid of me !
Will it be a problem near future when I wanna use other SIM to browse the net ?
Thanks

First of all you need to install BSD subsyste and SSH on your iphone ( you can find them in installer) and you need to install TRANSMIT program on your computer (on mac computers, i dont know what program on pc) and then you must find your iphone ip address ( you can find in setting-network-wifi) in transmit you should use your ip address as server, root as user name and alpine (if you do not change that by yourself) as password (protocol:SFTP) then hit connect. now you are connected to your iphone. on the menu on top right window select
folder with / on front and transfer files to system directory address as instructed on O2_PayAndGo_GPRS_iPhone_1.1.2 Folder. dont forget before replacing files copy the original file (on mac you can drag and drop files to safe folder). it actually works on o2-UK iphones.
