Its the same app but bigger, there is no difference nor does it cater to its strengths nor does it take advantage of the larger screen in any way. Most ipad apps are jsut upacaled iphone ports not apps made with it in mind. That was the point i was trying to make that its not just a big iphone in hardware but fsoftware as well. And at least black ops on the wii was built with motion sensors in mind and catered to the wiis strengths.

key is you don't use the same apps on the iphone as the ipad. if you do, then you bought one too many devices.

in terms of Wii, no black ops was NOT designed around Wii Motion Plus. It's not even required to play it. I have it on both the Wii and PS3 and the graphics and animation for which the game is renowned for is best on the PS3.

Oh and your analogy was wrong. Black ops never had a ds or portable version.

Survey Says XXX Wrong. My son has Black Ops on the NDS Lite. Ironically is playing it in WiFi mode with his friends as I sit here typing. :p

Its still a different experience because of motion controls and i doubt it has the exact same maps and campaign. Most ipad games are just pure ports with nothing new even control guis.

Black ops for the nds im guessing is a totslly new and different experience comared to the wii and designed for handheld gaming. The ipad ports come out way later, priced more, and are the exact same ports (art design and other apps are like this too) if apple had a different app atore or more of mac apps thhen we would have ports of the real call of duty for example. Wouldnt you rather have thst than share an iphone os and get crap like thst disney racing game?

It's actually worse and actually lacks many of the extended scenes and experiences since the Wii doesn't have BluRay. Same basic plot but done poorly.

Ok you made a point, but compare the price of the wii to the ps3. There is a reason the ps3 version is better. Now compare the price of the ipad to the wii, even the ipod touch. Its more yet has the lackster version of apps or ports that come out way later for more.

Plus, the wii has mario. What does the ipad have that make it standout from laptops, netbooks, iphone, etc. When it comes to napps beaides stuff you can get everyhwere else? Is got. Bunch of upscaled iphone ports held back by the os.

RadicalxEdward was right back in post# 58. You're just making random obtuse assumptions. At first you were confident that CAD never existed on the DS and now you're guessing it's totally new. You likely have never even played either, and for sure never the DS Version, so please stop there.

iPads launched later, but it wasn't until IP2 that the hardware was really notiably different, so there's really nothing more to do differently to the games to make them more enjoyable.

Case in point, look at the iP4. The screen resolution and Gyro are two main reasons games took a huge surge in updates. Otherwise, the 3Gs offered nothing more to gain.

Again, if all you're going to references is games, then the conversation is pointless. iPads and games are like buying AMG Benz's to drive to church.

Blame the developers.

Don't blame the iPad.

Why is this conversation still going on?

Actually, the PS3 vs Wii are about even in terms of benefits of one over the other IMO. That's why we own both. Graphics and fuctionality and gaming is way better on the PS3. However, intereactivity and that same Apple-ish target specific "win" that Wii captured in it's interactive motion based games is what makes the Wii system a leader in it's own way. The Wii is way more fun with kids in the house or friends over for movies and Wine. I actually equate the Wii to the iPad vs the PS3 to the iPad.

You really want me to school you on how the iPad has advantages over the iPhone or Touch? Honestly, if you can't see that, then I'll pass as that's like me beating up an 11 year old in a fist fight. That also tells me that you likely don't own an iPad or if you do, shouldn't have bought one. I'll let the others do that damage.

Its not just games, I already provided another example. Art studio hd is the exact same as the iphone version despite the fact its impractival to do any photo ir image editin on a small iphone screen. You dont call that holding the ipad back?

First you way the ipad isnt meant for image editing or art. Now you admit it sucks for games. So whay is it good for? Watching netflix?

Only in terms of size definitely not software and hardware (until friday and only for a limited time).

ApplE gave ammunition for developers to do this by providing the exact same os experience rather than something like honeycomb that is a mix between osx and smartphone os.

I don't know anything about Art Studio. Dont' have a use for it. I use Adobe CS5, Lightroom and DPP for my RAW conversion Software on my Computer. None of which can be used on the iPad nor are they targeting one another for use. Not the right tools for the job.

Bottom line is I don't use the iPad for image editing. It's not designed for serious use in that realm. I do see the iP4 being useful for Skyping and the iP4 useful for video capture.

First you way the ipad isnt meant for image editing or art. Now you admit it sucks fot games. So whay is it good for?

No, I said the iPad isn't targeted for serious photo editing in my line of business as a photog. Neither are 99% of the laptops as their LCD's are the weak link in terms of calibration. I'm also stating that I seriously don't play games on either my iPhone or iPad. I think both are a waste of money to play games on.

Even apple is doing this not just other devs. Look at iMovie, its the exact same app!!! They even made it universal. And iphone owners had it for months already.

Size matters my friend. If you've ever typed at length on either or tried to buy an airline ticket on both you'd never do either on an iPhone if the iPad was in your bag too. Especially in terms of buying an airline ticket. Try it. Then comparing doing the same on an laptop. You'll never lug that brick with you to do that.

You also won't be doing much with GoodReader or Keynote on an iTouch either. Surf Mac Rumors on an iPhone then on the iPad and tell me which is better. Sit in a meeting and take hand written notes on an iTouch and let me know how that works for you too. Pull up my company financial and address my CEO's questions on Numbers on both. Oh...wait...can you do that on both?

Wow....did I talk about more than just size there?

Think outside the world of hardware and tell me which one is going to yield a better experience. Again, each has their place.

I agree its more comfortable but I still hold that the ipad sharing the iphone os and offering same software is holding it back. It has more potential and could be better, that was my whole point.

I consider my iPad purchase as a laptop replacement (for Keynote and such) to be a failure. I've had it with file size, image/movie format (codec) issues. I'm done. Its great as a reader but all else is severely compromised.

I'm now looking to purchase a MacBook Air.

Smart move!

Basically no one is going to design stuff like iworks outside apple (and only sometimes) that wont work for the iphone crowd but be awesome on the larger display. How do you know art studio couldnt become a super bad ass ultimate creation tool if the iphone version didnt hold it back. Just because you admit all these apps suck for art creatin and images doesnt mean they have to suck it simly may mean the iphone versions and os are holding them back on the ipad. And the low price ceiling maybe as well.

Point is that offering the same OS is one of the keys to it's early success. Do you really anticipate it remaining exactly the same? I don't. Do you really think being radically different would make it a success? Perhaps you should look at Windows mobile...radically different and a complete failure.

The OS isn't holding the iPad back. The developers are the key. I've already pointed out 4-5 apps that make the iPad a great tool for me in two different businesses.

That is the whole point, the iPad offers more than what you're seeing. Perhaps you personally just don't have the need Apple targeted. Why don't you share with us what you really want to use a device like the iPad for.

The OS isn't holding them back. The app designers can do just about anything they want with time, money and code. However, perhaps whey they aren't is that the market isn't there. Do you really see a photography studio running it's creative team on iPads? I don't.

The OS didn't hold back all those apps creators I mentioned. Hell, I can work with spreadsheets, take hand written notes, read books, file documents, present slideshows with movies embedded, I can find my way home with any number of GPS Systems, I can watch movies without reading glasses, etc....no OS Hold backs there. Heck, even the huge trade show I'm going to next week has an app for both the iPhone and iPad. Not ports either, both are unique.

dude's just a troll. I gave up trying to be constructive in this thread. It was supposed to be about the iPad as a work tool, not about Black Ops on the wii.

I know, and it is a great work tool. Those that feel it's just a big iTouch or iPhone aren't obviously in need of or using apps that are better and or unique to the iPad. Perhaps they are made they spent money on it without investigating the need to do so. Some are perhaps mad that their life doesn't require they use one. Either way, the iPhone, iPad and ___ you plug in the computer are three different platforms with some overlap but all have a targeted specific need.

It's no different than employees. Any given day each of us does 50 plus things that others can do. However, it's the 5 or so that no one else can do as the reason we are paid differently.

Fair enough that the iPad wasn't designed for some things, but that's not an excuse when the competition can do it. My comment was to show that my android mobile is basically a capable laptop replacement, and that's just 2.3, let alone the redesigned 3.0. In fact, for me the only thing missing is the big 10" screen and support for development environments like eclipse. I don't expect it to ever replace my desktop, but I see no reason it can't fill the practical uses of a laptop.

While it has a slicker interface, iOS has a very long way to go to catch up to android in terms of function and flexibility. My hope is that apple recognise this and that iOS 5 will plug those holes. I think it's reasonable to expect they will, they've always shown commitment to continually improving their products.

Edit: part of the confusion may be in what people expect out of their laptop. For me, the size, weight and battery are most important factors. I can't abide those large unwieldy 15"+ monsters, I feel their size defeats the purpose. But, as a replacement for a small ultraportable, the tablet form factor would be ideal.
