Can't stand the thought of sticking my finger near my eye with it open.. Just a mental roadblock.

Everyone is like that at first. I had an eye proximity reflex like you wouldn't believe! You just have to decide that's it's worth some effort. For the first month it would literally take 1 and a half hours to get both of them into my eyes, then by a couple of months I had it down to 45 minutes, then by 6 months it was 10 minutes. If I can overcome my eye proximity aversion, then anyone can.

I wear contacts, although my friends with prescriptions with numbers such as +6 and +7 seem to think that with my lowly -1.25 prescription, I don't need them. Just because my one friend's stupid enough to think that she doesn't have to wear glasses with a +6 scrip, I apparently don't need any vision correction at all.

Whatever.

I'd like to try contacts because I've got a whole bunch of cool sunglasses that I had before glasses and I still like them... but don't wear them since I can't see worth crap if I don't have my corrective eye wear on.

I'm thinking of giving them a try... if I can get over the pokey-in-the-eye phobia..

I've worn contacts since I was eleven. I love them and wouldn't have it any other way. My prescription is -7 in both eyes. I'm LOVING my O2 Optix. So comfy and not as hard to handle as the Acuvue Oasys.

I know what you mean. My contacts are +1 but I still need them!

Both.

I wear glasses at home but when i go out i usually wear my O2 Optix!!

They are really nice!

You can't beat the stylish aspect of glasses - slip on a pair of glasses and your IQ gets a big boost (perceived boost, but a boost nonetheless) according to studies they've done. People that wear glasses - and the heavier the frame the more so - people assumed their intelligence was at times like 15 IQ points higher.

Glasses have become a fashion accessory more or less since contacts have got so common and everyday.

I wear glasses (-1.50 and -.75) but when I'm in school I never have them on anymore (i can see the board usually from where I'm at, back of the class or front) but because of my horrible vision in my left eye(but perfect in my right), I have to wear them when driving at night cause my nightvision is horrendous. Eventually I'm gonna laser up my left eye, maybe right if it gets worse.

Wow, that's interesting! I definitely wear black, bold frames. :)

Yeah, perceptions can be hilarious. When I was a kid, I was never kicked out of book-shops when reading away quietly for hours, - I've always suspected it was because I wore glasses, - somehow, people expect kids with glasses to read books and be studious by nature, whereas my two younger brothers - both with perfect vision, but also book readers - would be hauled by the ear out of shops while trying to do the same thing. Cheers

Glasses.

I've been wearing them since I was about 6 years old, and I will never switch to contacts or get lasik. I love glasses, and I love the way they look on me.

I also have this weird eye phobia thing that would rule out contacts even if I wanted them. I can't look at eyes for long periods of time, touch my own eyes, or watch other people touch their own eyes.
Same here. I can't touch my eye either. I went to try and get contacts but I couldn't even let the optometrist put them in. When she got her hand near my eye, I grabbed her wrist and couldn't go any further.

I'm fine with glasses though.

Was your optometrist cute?Because if yes you can always go back and tell her:" ok, i'll let you put me contacts but then you'll have to give me your phone number"!!!:D

Isn't this a great way or what?:p

Melrose noted that glasses have become a fashion accessory since contacts became so reasonably priced, (and the perceived IQ bost is a very interesting point) but I'd also argue in recent years that J K Rowling's Harry Potter series of (wonderful) books have made the whole idea of wearing glasses fashionable and thus, acceptable, for youngsters. The have given kids who wear glasses a "cool" hero to identify with, and teachers have reported respect/admiration for bespectacled children rather than the derision which used to be the case sometimes in the past. Cheers.

Correct. But nobody knows how it is to wear glasses for years... And how awful it is when you have bad vision... I mean for me, contacts are one of the best things that has happened.

Lot's of things are becoming fashion accessories just because a hero has it. Another example is John Constantine from Hellblazer. That guy,for those that haven't read it, walks all day with a cigarette. Everybody tell him that his going to die from this but he keeps smoking. Only by looking at that character you may say "cool, i wanna smoke too". But that's just too bad....:(

^^ I agree glasses have become popular due to heros in fiction or real-life stars, but my only point was that since the advent and availableness of contacts, glasses have become an accessory simply because you choose to wear them over contacts. In effect, since you don't have to wear them nowadays, doing so makes it more out of personal choice - thus they would fit into the accessory category. But I do agree nonetheless.

Let me guess: You're single and under 17? :D

I find that the comfort of my contacts is directly proportional to the amount of sleep I get the previous night. If I get at least 6 hours of sleep, my contacts tend to be very comfortable. If I get less than that it feels like there is debris in my eye all day long.

Contacts.

Though I'm considering laser, anybody have success with it (or not success)?

I suppose if you're going to have this poll...you should have an option for having had lasic eye surgery. I know several people that have had this and don't need corrective lenses anymore. :D

I, however, have had contacts since I was in 8th grade...and am so accustomed to them I forget that i wear them sometimes. :D

Daily disposable contacts :) They're fantastic.

Nobody likes touching their eyes, but these things are easy.

Just make sure you do actually dispose of them after a day. I use monthlies myself, but I once received a few trial pairs of dailies and thought I'd use them for a few days each to maximize them. I then realized they are so soft that after 2 days, both lenses tore when I tried taking them out. Getting that other half of the lens off my eyeball wasn't the most pleasant experience. ;)

Interesting. I've never thought about it that way. You may argue that I've probably never thought about it at all, but I'm still giving you credit.
