Seems to have stopped working for me. Just sent about 5 test emails and received 0 notifications.

Oh well. Even when I can only fetch, I still prefer the iOS Mail app to the official Gmail app.

Ignore that. Turns out my banner notifications for gmail somehow got turned off. Will test again later.

I’ve noticed that iOS 11 adds an additional option to the ‘Fetch’ Mail settings.

In addition to the usual “15 Minutes,” “30 Minutes,” “Hourly,” and “Manually,” there is a new option - “Automatically.”

Any idea how this works?

Update: push Gmail has been working great today.

My fetch schedule is set to “every 15 minutes,” and I haven’t been charging or on WiFi at all.

I know it is beta , just wondering any noticeable effect on battery you noticed?

Wouldnt be surprised if it is just a bug?

That would probably make me cry, lol.

Big Gmail user and would love to use the stock app. Certainly looking forward to 11 even more now, and I was already excited. I'd use my iCloud email, but somehow it got put into the list at spam central and it literally gets so much junk its unusable and Apple doesn't allow more than one email address on your iCloud, just aliases to the same damn mailbox. Forget that. Outlook.com is okay, but I've already got so much invested in the other two it's just another account to keep up with. I use mostly all Google services at this point but I only own Apple devices (iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, and Mac).

The power and Wi-Fi restriction is right there in the settings.

So what happens if you choose Push for Gmail?

I don't see the option to select Push for Gmail. Only Fetch or Manual under Gmail. And then under the Fetch options, there are options for Automatically, 15 min, 30 min, hourly and manually.

For those that got Gmail to push, which options are you setting?

Push is not an option for Gmail. Only Fetch and Manual.

Push is not an option for Gmail. Only Fetch and Manual. You have all the options available. Remove the account and add it back in for "push" to work. The options do not change.

But the setting would have no real meaning if push happens with any but the auto option.

Can you inform us with more information on this, or is it speculation?

It uses the state of power (plugged in, unplugged) and connection (WiFi, mobile data) to determine when it’ll fetch for updates. As far as I’ve read, it only happens when on WiFi and charging.

That's how I read it. Fetch is enabled if on Wifi and power and disabled if not. It has nothing to do with push.

Agreed, the premise that "push" is restored is false. There is no Exchange server push going on for any free gmail accounts.

At BEST gmail has IMAP IDLE, but the odds of Apple working with Google suddenly after all these years to include IMAP IDLE is iOS are slim to none.

Either a placebo effect or bug in the Beta if seeing anything better than fetch off of power&wifi (which is still fetch but fetches far more often since you are not using cellular data or battery so it can suck the data and battery constantly fetching)

Interesting..... others in this thread said (once removed and added) they were getting push on LTE and on battery. Yes its a beta and things almost will certainly change, but the automatic setting on fetch is still unexplained.
