The Apple Mail app in iOS is atrocious in general, not just for Gmail. I don't understand why it's not more like the macOS app. They should make it more like Spark.
I bet Spark's long term business plan is to be purchased by a large company (desirably, Apple)

Ive used all of the 3rd party email apps and beta for most too. Anyone who thinks these smaller companies aren't in it for the money just because they claim they won't sell the company (or email app) off is naive.

They would all sell out in a heartbeat for the right price; it's all about getting the right price.

Absent perhaps iOS Outlook because MS has enough money and it goes with their other Office apps they offer.

And out of all of them I prefer Outlook app - it has the best push and sync for other accounts as well.

I like it the best too but it's also the most underdeveloped/underfeatured app for how long its been on the market (longer than Spark, Airmail, Easilydo Email, etc).

It still doesnt even sync the drafts folder for heck's sake (even the stock Mail app started doing that in what 2009?)! You cant search the calendar, you can't add or delete contacts, on gmail you cannot search back beyond I believe its 25 or 50 entries (they simply use the gmail API, no server search), not HTML email signatures, no in-app browser like every other mail app offers as an option.

There are just WAY too many quirks and the basics missing to use it as a DD for me. And they dont even listen to us developers/beta testers they picked out. Im not sure why they picked beta testers and don't bother listening to any feedback.

There is also a TON of user feedback/votes for features we beta testers mirror sitting there for 1 or 2 years now not acted upon; some with 20,000 people asking for it and the top voted ones. MS is just baffling. They could have a REALLY good app if they just added some really basic things (sync drafts, in app browser, search calendar, edit contacts) people have been asking for since it was Accompli; not even power user stuff

Yikes!! I appreciate you developers who make tech easier for all of us. MS, like Amazon, is so big they don't really respond to requests.

Whenever I try using the iOS mail app. It does nothing with my gmail or yahoo mail accounts. Tried everything I could think, but it only works when I open the app. Still using the actual gmail an yahoo apps from the App Store till they fix the mail app.

I have Gmail on the stock mail app and it just downloaded and notified me of a new email I received. Before, i would have to open the app and wait for it to fetch any new emails. I was connected to Wifi, plugged into the charger and above 90% battery.

I wonder Apple will tell us (assuming this feature stays in the official release) in release notes. Sometimes they just do things without any notification.

MSFT responds quite often for me. Every time I send feedback via App, I get a response. Likewise, if you leave them a review, they tend to respond sometimes using the App Store's developer response functionality.

Lest we forget Outlook was Acompli. And who remembers Sparrow et al?

Hi!

First post to MacRumors, been wanting to sign up for a while. I can confirm something changed. When on WiFi (and not necessarily on mains) my IMAP account (hosted at French provider Gandi, supports IMAP idle) now pushes me new emails directly, despite being configured to « Fetch » in iOS settings. Doesn’t work on LTE (or 4G as we call it here) though.

Glad it works again in the stock app, I can now use certificates to sign mail again !

Mines not working at all. I’ve removed gmail account restarted phone and then re-added it.

My office uses G-Suite and I couldn’t get that to work either using “Gmail” button on power and WiFi.

So my personal account and my gsuite account doesn’t work on automatic fetch on WiFi and/or on power.

G-Suite does work however on the “Exchange” option.

Not sure what I’m doing incorrectly but I’m disappointed.

This works with fetch too you know.. turn fetch off, and only push on. Still does it push?

I checked on iOS 11 Beta 7 for a Gmail account already configured on my stock Apple Mail App.
I did not find any option of Push enabled for the Gmail account.
How are users saying that Push is enabled without actually displaying the option for Push on Gmail account.

are people still having this issue, seems to be happening with my iphone x, under accounts and passwords then gmail it only gives me the option for fetch and manually, there is no push there. Using mail app. also on bottom has automatically
