So excuse me guys, but i am a massive newbie wen it comes to Mac..
Anyways, I have a Mvix media player that will not play the mkv's with DTS and I need to convert these to AC3 i think from what i have read here. What would be the best and easiest way of doing this?? any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know much about Mvix media player, but if it will play mp4 videos, you can use MKVtools to pass thru the video (assuming it's h264) and convert the dts to either 5.1 aac or 5.1 ac3. Since you're only converting the audio it should only take a few minutes. And if you don't mind a nag screen, it's free.

Moyea MKV Converter

I use something called Moyea MKV Converter to convert DTS to AC3.

This is a paid app, BUT, the good news is that you can do unlimited DTS-AC3 conversions while in trial mode. Just dismiss the nag screen, open your MKV, select "Settings->Format->Common Audio->AC3", and change the channels to 6 (for whatever reason, it's default setting is 2 channels )

I use this all the time to prep video for my PS3, since the console won't play back .m2ts files with DTS audio. I used to use the Jake Wharton script that was mentioned earlier in the thread, but this is so much easier since you don't need to bother installing CMake, Aften, etc. You get a GUI too, which I prefer.

Note: the app goes under the name "HD Video Converter" on their website, but it'll launch as "MKV Converter".
