As hubby was reviewing my iPad purchase plans. Pro 12.9 1tb, he asked why I wasn’t getting cellular. With. The Verizon add on for 10$ he seemed like it was a no brainer. Then he said it was my Mother’s Day gift as long as I went with cell model. Had not really thought about it until he pointed out how I kept my devices for years before upgrading. I have a second gen 12.9 with 512 gb.

anyone else reevaluating and temted to go cellular?

I’m tempted to go cellular, mostly because Verizon has a $200 promotion on the cellular iPads if you activate the new pro on a line. With this cellular basically pays for itself even if I end up dropping it from my Verizon plan in the future.

I'm getting cellular but sadly, doesn't seem like I'm eligible for the promotion. It requires add-a-line instead of upgrade and I can't get the credit if I cancel my existing iPad line.

I considered it, and if it were only $100 I would have, because I could actually have used it last year. Where I live we had some 12+ hour power outages during the summer, and while I can use my phone as a hotspot for the iPad, that means I'm using two device's batteries instead of just one. But...with the $200 price to go cellular, I decided to instead invest $200 in a massive lithium charger, 64,800mAh.

This will be my fist iPad without cellular. I just never use it. Even before COVID when travelling around there’d always be WiFi be it the office or hotel. I always bought cellular “just in case” but as I say, I hardly ever used it.

I agree my first iPads and current one supports cellular, but I changed carriers and xfinity doesn't allow you to bring your own iPad yet, although you can buy a cellular one with them. I don't mind hot spotting in the rare chance I need it

Anyone thinking of getting the 1TB one for the extra RAM? If so, and paying so much, will you get the cellular?

I used to buy with Cellular but not any more, just didn't use it often enough and the reality is that if I am in a position where I do need it, I have my iPhone to pair it with for data. Some have issues with tethering but I found it flawless.

Still deciding on whether to get 1TB for the extra ram, but do I need 1TB? No. Do I need 16GB? Probably not. Does that mean I will not get 1TB? Probably not :p

Although with 6GB my existing Pro has no issues so another 2GB as standard anyway and the benefits of the unified RAM overall probably means that will be more than enough.

Yes, It’s hard not to order what you don’t need! I’ve never come close to filling my 256GB’s and as said previously I hardly used my cellular iPads. Still debating between the 256GB WiFi only or 256GB WiFi and Cellular though! Madness!

I guess if Apple made it easier to change your order once you’ve made it it’d be easier but you have to start all over again! If I order the WiFi only model a couple of days later I’ll wonder if I should’ve ordered the Cellular model!

My current iPP is cellular and yes, I'll be getting this again for the replacement - not having to tether my phone has been quite convenient. Only thing is that the local telco currently only puts the 5G capability onto their highest cost cellular data plans

I use cellular. It comes in handy at work as well as when taking 60+ minute trips in the car. I thought about using the phone hotspot but, it is just too slow for any meaningful use, in my opinion.

Congrats on your early Mother's Day gift, Terry.

Then he said it was my Mother’s Day gift as long as I went with cell model.

Seems like an odd ultimatum unless he's also going to be using it frequently, LOL! But hey, as the saying goes, better to have it and not need it . . .

For those dropping cellular, just be aware you also lose the built-in GPS when you drop cellular too.

I rely on the GPS, and it always drives me crazy that I have to pay for the cellular version to get it. Once I found some of the low-cost capped pre-pay cell plans though, my usage of cellular has increased such that I'm happy to have it.

Here in the UK I usually buy a 25GB prepaid sim for £40 that lasts 2 years. Stick it in the iPad and forget about it but as I say, I still hardly use it…

I'm going back to a Cellular model, as I'll be on the move more than in the last 12 months (hopefully!).

The broadband speed where I live is poor, but 4g speeds are good, and the closest city (where I spend a lot of my free time) now has 5g.

I’ll be purchasing cellular again - it turned out to be quite handy the past year, as any WiFi issues while traveling have a huge impact on mine and my fiances work. Being able to hand off my phone and continue using my iPad for tethering my work laptop is a godsend.

Also debating the 1TB, but holy moley those prices! I do not think I $600 need to have 16GB RAM and 1TB when I’m currently using 100GB out of 256. At the same time, this is a laptop replacement for me at this point, so it’s a harder decision than it should be!

My iPhone is 5G. With the 5G rollouts in our cities I'm finding I use the local acquired WiFi less and less. It's too slow and too congested. Looking forward to 5G on the new iPad.

I just bought a cellular 2020 and did the Verizon $200 rebate. They also cut the price form $20/m to $10/m. It makes my life a little more convenient even if I don’t use it all the time.
I’m excited for you all ordering the 2021 model!
