Im going with Cellular as well. I live in FL and the past few years we have had some nasty storms and hurricanes come through and we are without power for hours or days even and my currently cellular model saved my butt. Yes I know I can tether to my phone but now im using 2 devices battery instead of 1.

With that said besides those examples I very rarely use the cellular and always attached to wifi, Im just getting this as a "Just in case" back up when I dont have wifi available.

My first iPad was cellular. I have only had Wifi since then. Seems there's always a wifi connection nearby or when I need to, I can hotspot with my phone.

I have been the same way, but since I switched to Verizon and I can get an unlimited data plan for my iPad (hotspotting only gives me 30GB before throttling to 600kbps) for $10 I decided to go back to a cellular version. I am anticipating that I am going to be traveling for work more again next year, so it would be great to have good data built in.

I don’t connect to public WiFi networks; too much risk. And hotel WiFi networks often suck.

This is my thinking, I (normally) travel back and forth to Italy a lot to see family, as well as other travel. It was only £5 per month more for unlimited data, so what the hell.

The 4G where I live and work is better than the broadband speeds, as we don’t have Fibre yet.

With EE UK. I get 110GB per month on my iPhone sim contract. Added a sim deal at £4 for 2GB for my tablet but EE let’s you gift data between contacts on your account. So I just gift 20GB to the iPad per month

Never looked on there website for devices. Both my iPhone and iPad are from Apple so it’s sim only from EE. £12 for the phone £4 for the tablet and can gift data from the phone

Took my new iPad WiFi out for the fist time this morning to test it out. Went to my local Costa. WiFi was poor but usable.

I then tethered to my iPhone and WOW! Super fast. Got 150 Mbps and everything lightening fast. This “test” has put my mind at rest about getting WiFi only. I’ve always got Cellular in the past but for the (very few) times I am away from home I’m sure using my iPhone’s unlimited data will be fine.

As hubby was reviewing my iPad purchase plans. Pro 12.9 1tb, he asked why I wasn’t getting cellular. With. The Verizon add on for 10$ he seemed like it was a no brainer. Then he said it was my Mother’s Day gift as long as I went with cell model. Had not really thought about it until he pointed out how I kept my devices for years before upgrading. I have a second gen 12.9 with 512 gb.

anyone else reevaluating and temted to go cellular?
I have had cellular since my first ipad 1 and still on that plan, i would never buy this side piece without being cellular as i take it many places

Congrats! I had cellular pads during my working years and it was great for travel. A couple years ago I retired, and found myself using my iPad 99% at home, so decided to drop cellular. You also get GPS, so have a great backup navigation option if you are traveling and your phone disappears.

Always gone cellular. Tethering is much easier now with automatic personal hotspot using the iPhone, but is still very heavy on the phone's battery and a hindrance to using the iPad independently, especially if you rely on automatic cloud synchronization/email synchronization/notifications or even just using the iPad on the fly.

Never gone with the cellular iPad, considering I can always tether it to my iPhone if needed. ??‍♂️
Yea that doesn’t work if you’re using it a lot...burns that phone up, there are days I’m have cellular running 6-8 hours, minimal usage phone ok to tether but not for me

I’m tempted to go cellular, mostly because Verizon has a $200 promotion on the cellular iPads if you activate the new pro on a line. With this cellular basically pays for itself even if I end up dropping it from my Verizon plan in the future.
As I checked Verizon 5G is $30 a month

I’ve bought the cellular iPads all along and have one of the original unlimited plans. I utilize it a lot when we travel and especially at hotels where the WiFi is overloaded and terrible. Even at home we have fast WiFi but it goes out from time to time and the cellular is great to have.

Back when I was traveling a lot for work, a cellular iPad was awesome. Most airport wifi is very poor and most job sites where we had to present had even worse internet. Setting my iPad as a hotspot for coworkers and myself was invaluable. But, since April 2020 we’ve not travelled at all so I got rid of my cellular iPad. I might reconsider when I go back… but those iPads can even come in handy at home - we lost power for 24+ hours one time (scheduled outage to upgrade lines) and having a cellular iPad was nice. But it is expensive. On my Verizon plan it was $18/mo.

50% discount ($15) with voice line on some of their unlimited plans.

If you have the more expensive phone plan, the add-on for iPad is $10.

Some plans let you add it on for $10 a month (mine does).

That's not the 5G plan though. Or maybe it's more limited 5G.

Edit:
Found the difference. Ignore the wonky pricing. The $20 for Unlimited Plan should only be $10 with voice line discount.

I'm a big fan of cellular on my iPads, mostly because my WiFi at home has mysteriously gotten terrible for the last year, and I work as a small business owner via Zoom and want my clients/students to have a really good experience-- switching over to LTE when I need to in the middle of a Zoom call is seamless and super quick, whereas tethering takes a little longer and doesn't always work on the first try.

(But also, yes, out in the real world it is nice to just automatically have internet.)

For those dropping cellular, just be aware you also lose the built-in GPS when you drop cellular too.

I rely on the GPS, and it always drives me crazy that I have to pay for the cellular version to get it. Once I found some of the low-cost capped pre-pay cell plans though, my usage of cellular has increased such that I'm happy to have it.
GPS is one of the main reasons to have cellular. I like to use my iPad for turn by turn navigation, geocaching, and Gaia GPS maps when off-roading/overlanding

I got the cellular plan again time.

With VZ, you need to have Do More Unlimited to get the $10 iPad data plan (50% off), otherwise you pay $20 extra. The $30 plan includes 5g UW which the other plans only include 5g.

My 10.5 was cellular and while it was nice when I needed it, I found that I maybe only used it twice per year. I also changed my cell phone plan so I get 5GB high speed hotspot with unlimited 3G hotspot and it didn't change the price of my plan, so if I need to connect to cellular I'll just go that route. Connecting to a hotspot is literally only like 2 clicks away and it means I don't need to have a whole separate plan or spend a bunch of extra money for a wifi+cellular iPad, so my new 11-inch is wifi only.
