Seriously!? If I got banned/suspended for suggesting the use of a forum feature for its intended function would mean I leave these forums forever. Hope the mods read this post too.

From the sound of it, looks like I better say my farewells to all of you now.
I’ve been suspended for for ridiculous reasons as well.

Also, my posts get deleted on the main MacRumors page if I reply to a post with just one word. Huh? Ridiculous.

Yes, I am serious. And it was for mentioning that people should just put a certain poster on ignore rather than feed into his nonsense. The same poster you were recommending people use it for.

I actually asked the mods my reason for getting suspended and they said the following things are violations of the rules here: calling someone a "fanboy" and "suggesting posters put another user on ignore".

I asked what I am supposed to do if they fail to prevent someone from repeatedly trolling and posting off-topic comments and they said "put them on ignore". So apparently you can use the ignore function but you cant suggest another poster use that function. Makes total sense right?

Oh and since we are talking about mods, this was fun. After talking about mods here a previous time I logged on to find out I was suspended. When I asked why, it took a few days for them to respond saying it was a mistake. I find the "timing" of that mistake really coincidental.

But yeah, I am about done on these boards. I get the mods are just volunteers but this place is not run well.

And that’s another reason why Apple is better than Android.
When will people ever learn there is no "better". Everyone could rave about a product I detest, so to me it wouldn't be better and vice versa. It's all subjective.

But I wouldn't expect the people who come to the alternative section purely to post negatively to understand.

Absolutely, good to know my 2018 iPad Pro will be supported for another 3-4 years ?
Honestly, given that the 2020 IPP pretty much has the same CPU, and given that iPadOS seems a lot more lenient on older devices, with them still supporting the iPad air2 from 2014 in 2021, I wouldn’t be surprised if the 2018 iPad Pro still has another 5-7 years of updates left.

What phone do you have now? How long have you had it? 90 % of people change their phone every 2 years on the upgrade cycle so 3 years support is fine.
A: actually over the past five years, the amount of time between upgrades for regular consumers has expanded.
B: a lot of consumers by older refurbished or used phones anyway when they upgrade.
so yes, supporting the phone with updates for 2-3 years still isn’t great.

"Better" is a weird choice of words, but it doesn't change the fact that my wife's Pixel 2 is no longer getting new software updates.

You can't compare update quantity (Apple) with update quality (Google). Apple updates are to address stupid bugs that shouldn't have been there in the first place while Google updates makes the device smarter and more useful. For example, this Apple calendar scam vulnerability is back on our iPhones which has never been an issue on Google Calendar. Apple should hire Google to fix this vulnerability once and for all.

Google I/O felt a little flat for me this year.
Haha, google took a year off in 2020 and I don't think they have got their mojo back in 2021.

I started watching the keynote on youtube and could not continue after a few minutes. What a bore fest.

Ended up just reading the coverage on selective subjects.

I think if you’re an engineer or developer, there are still a lot of stuff in this I/O. Of course from consumer perspective, there’s no consumer facing physical product being announced, thus the feel of lack of excitement.

It's a DEVELOPER event. No need to release any physical product. Google are not apple. that being said, I found Google's I/O this year very interesting. Android 12 is WAY better than iOS. iOS needs new minds, new thinkers, and a New bug squashing team. The same old same old since iOS was first released besides some new unexciting widgets. Then the project starline was AMAZING. They are on to something there for sure. Screw releasing hardware at developer events. Have a hardware event for that. Leave apple to give the oh, theres one more thing silliness.

are you sure? Is it getting software updates from the playstore? Are the core OS features and apps still getting updates from the playstore

Tbf, I think you should of directing your comment toward @mwidjaya.

But I don't consider Android 12 to be WAY better than iOS... they both have their disadvantages. I like both iOS and Android, only reason why I choose Android is due to a few features that isn't on iOS. But I still look at iOS and wish Android had similar features.

My phone right now is an iPhone 11 and I feel the same way. I wish my phone had many features android has that mine dont. Plus the many bugs in iOS at present and apple having no want to fix them is another reason I'm jumping ship. Lack of hardware features is a third reason. Time to move on. After years on iPhone's they are boring now.

You know what I mean. The 2015 iPhone runs iOS 13.

The 2017 Pixel won't get the next android

Even the latest iOS 14.x updates don't allow you to place your home screen icons anywhere for reachability, split screen multitask, etc. that Android has had. Plus, you can update Android browser through app store unlike iOS which requires an OS update and downtime to reboot. Reasons why you can't directly compare Apple and Google updates.

well what is said is not always what is meant. Then when Android releases a new OS version it also updates all the core apps and features through the Playstore unlike Apple where they are bundled into the next OS version.
So as long as you get Playstore software updates then you are getting most of the core apps updated that the new Android OS has to offer hardware permitting....

Ah, smokes and mirrors.

Google is known to show off R&D projects.
Ahhhh. How's that dual charger from Apple working out? At least starline is a glimpse into the future to help many people. Not a trinket to look cool on a desk. Seriously. Apple is the king of smoke and mirrors.

Android 12 looks really good. Will definitely have to upgrade my pixel 2XL and try it out. Not sure to what though. I was thinking of the 5a or 5 however the pixel 6 pro sounds really good so I’ll wait and see.

The new google maps features look good. I especially like the feature that lets you know how busy a restaurant is or an area. It’s just a really useful feature to have regardless of Covid.

I also liked the locked photo album feature. I have sensitive pictures, not pornography or nudes. I have videos and pictures from my when I have birth that I like to keep private.

I’m still curious about the merge between android wear and Tizen. What features will Samsung keep? I get that Samsung are doing it for the apps but Samsung had a really good watch platform. Wear OS is poop and has been that way for years now. So I hope Samsung are very hands on and don’t roll over and stop using all of their services like Samsung health and Samsung pay etc and all the good features of wear OS.
