are you sure? Is it getting software updates from the playstore? Are the core OS features and apps still getting updates from the playstore
Yep I’ve had a few updates from play services on my pixel 2XL. I will upgrade my 2XL in the fall as I’m waiting for the 6 pro and then I can decide if I want that or 5a. If the runours are true that the pro is getting a periscope lens then I’ll get that.

However even my 2XL will get the new revamped google TV remote.

From the way it markets and sells its phones, it seems Google is not interested in being a big player in mobile devices. The phones are not being sold in so many countries. I am in Northern Europe and the phone is not available and I cannot even order it from Google online without some devious shipping and addressing moves. I have no idea what the motive is. Perhaps they can only manufacture a small number.

Nothing that having a friend on the other side of the pond can't fix. 50 dollars and I will go buy and ship one to you! ha ha.

If you really want something you can get. Before the OG chromecast launched in the UK I bought an imported one. I also bought the OG Gogole Home before it was released in the UK. You only have to go to ebay.

Thanks! But seriously, why does a global company of its size and clout not have a bigger phone sales presence?

It's not just Google either. There are lots of cool phones available on your side that we can't get officially. One of my favourite ones was the mi mix. Loved that device.

Probably because Google doesn’t want to actively compete with their own clients (the OEMs). Besides , hardware is not really Google’s main business. Similar to Microsoft and their Surface products. It’s different than Apple where the iPhone is their main revenue generator.

Right. iOS does it well. Android does it poorly on Google's own devices.

This isn't the OS hill for you to die on.
right then others in this thread that have the exact phone, 2017 Pixel 2, you mentioned have said they are receiving software updates. The Pixel 2 doesn't HAVE to get Android 12 to get all the features of the core Google apps. They are updated through the Playstore.....You know this so you are just being you.....misleading and difficult.

Talk about moving the goal posts to fit a certain narrative and very narrow POV.
Perhaps you should come off the sword and retire that same ole crap Apple apologist have been circulating for years.... You should regurgitate something else.

Talk about an hill to die on.....that mantra doesn't fit you...you should try something else on that fits....

Alright, so you're dying on the "Google Play Services updates are OS updates" hill.

Sorry you find factual discourse "misleading and difficult"

The Pixel 2 won't get Android 12 and the iPhone 6s won't get IOS 15 what a shocker!!!!
OMG stop the presses.....thank you captain obvious.....
You know what I mean. The 2015 iPhone runs iOS 13.

The 2017 Pixel won't get the next android

Y'all remember when @AustinIllini would would gush over the Pixel? He even made a Pixel thread once. Now, he only comes to this side of MacRumors to sh*t all over Google and Android. It's tiring.

There are many people like him. I know one on android central. Whatever he has is the best and everything else is garbage. This weeks phone is the new pixel. He's getting that so his samsung FE is now instantly junk where he craps all over it. before that he had an iphone 12 and samsung was the devil, before that he had a nokia and iphone was junk. So FULL OF IT.

indeed. One of the biggest reasons why I prefer Apple to Google
Yes it would be nice if they did 5 years but my guess is they went with the majority. I'd say not many people keep their phones for 5 years.
I'm sure there are some that do but my guess is it's a small percentage.

I keep mine 2 years or so and I consider myself one of those who don't switch phones often like some do here. Some here keep them 5 weeks lol.

Now my tablet is a different story. I have a Samsung Tab S2. It's old. Still works good but it is slow compared to my phone but works well even with the OS being a few years or so old. Not sure what it is even running lol.

I never been one to need the latest the latest and greatest and was always a OS behind on Samsung as they are slow to put out updates but if the phone works, it don't matter

I am absolutely going with a Pixel again when I move on from my 4a. Just love this phone and it's features you get with it. The call screening is great for one.

Yes, I am serious. And it was for mentioning that people should just put a certain poster on ignore rather than feed into his nonsense. The same poster you were recommending people use it for.

I actually asked the mods my reason for getting suspended and they said the following things are violations of the rules here: calling someone a "fanboy" and "suggesting posters put another user on ignore".

I asked what I am supposed to do if they fail to prevent someone from repeatedly trolling and posting off-topic comments and they said "put them on ignore". So apparently you can use the ignore function but you cant suggest another poster use that function. Makes total sense right?

Oh and since we are talking about mods, this was fun. After talking about mods here a previous time I logged on to find out I was suspended. When I asked why, it took a few days for them to respond saying it was a mistake. I find the "timing" of that mistake really coincidental.

But yeah, I am about done on these boards. I get the mods are just volunteers but this place is not run well.
Mods in most forums are like a HOA in your neighborhood. Always go beyond their duties with ridiculous rules.

Luckily I don't come here very often anymore.
