So their event today showed portrait mode front and back with just one camera on both sides front and back, literally said our smaller phone and bigger phone are the same, we dont make features exclusive to bigger model.
Unlimited storage for free takings jabs at iCloud.

They claim to have the best camera of any smartphone, which I know last year people said the original pixel was very good too, not sure if its true.

They are giving a free google home mini to people who purchase either phones

They claim the finger print sensor is the fastest on any phone

First time watching their event, its interesting. They also copied Apple live photos.

Their pixel buds are wireless headphones, completely copied apple pricing, but I do like how you have live translate in over 40 languages

Google Clips is kinda cool too

I wonder if apple cares about all this lol

Google can give away free storage because your photos are the money makers.

They are too busy charging $1200 for the iPhone X and Tim Cook is probably thinking new ways on how he would be able to stretch this to $2000.

Well they certainly outdesigned Apple this time. Even though the XL has thick side bezels and the small one juicy bezels in general, to me these look much more contemporary and smart than the iPhone X or the other iPhone models. The buds look much cooler than the AirPods too, the home screen and always on display are much more slick and modern than iOS. And the other gadgets look super slick too.

All subjective of course. But to me, Google definitely has the upper hand in terms of aesthetics right now, whereas Jony Ive seems to be getting kinda sleepy.

Pixel 1: Has a headphone port and no camera bump. (jab at Apple)
Pixel 2: No headphone port and added a camera bump.

Also "We don’t set aside better features for the larger device”. Except they kind of did. The Pixel 2 XL has smaller bezels which I'm sure Pixel 2 buyers would appreciate as well. A larger screen in a similar overall size to the Pixel 1 with smaller bezels.

I mean, I would actually consider an iPhone 8 if it had the same camera system as the Plus, but it doesn't AND it also has the smaller battery (and, obviously, smaller screen), so...

Are they doing a free home mini? I ordered a xl2 and didn't see any mention of that, although I went through quickly as I didn't want my order date to slip. I hope I didn't forget to click anything in order to get that mini.

Apple only forever!! Just kidding but I am well invested into the Apple eco-system. Take a look at my signature. I have been with Apple since the start of OS X at the end of the 1990's. Occasionally I try other products owned by friends and family members and nothing ever appeals to me but Apple.

It is subjective because boy I don't see it. The Pixels seem awkward. The buds have a neck wire, so that alone makes them inferior to the Apple airpods (which I consider ugly, but "truly wireless" should mean TRULY wireless). The 8 design on the front of the phone is boring but the glass back is gorgeous, and a pleasure to hold. The X is too polarizing to come to any conclusion about.

Voice translation... is that hardware or software powered? I would hope it becomes available in their iOS app.

Doubt apple care

Not when google mocked apple for removing the headphone jack then they remove theirs.

I;m surprised google didn’t change the design. Still so much wasted space.

Yeah their jab last year was about the head phone jack, and they then remove it this year. They look like good phones though, camera appears to be impressive.

If all you care for are aesthetics I would agree with you, but for me, the functionality of googles solutions are better. The wire will make the earbuds harder to lose. As for how the Pixel looks, I don't care as I would be using a case anyways, with the iPhone X, there is no case that will ever fix that horrible notch.

The only disappointment I had today was that the Home Mini uses Micro USB, they should have gone with USB C as I would be able to use that power supply in a pinch. I just want to see Micro USB die already.

Google's hardware is certainly nice looking and useful. I wish Apple would have kept up with the AirPort products and made a mesh version, and maybe even put an audio our port in it, like the old airport express. The homepod is sexy but damn expensive, I cant put one in every room. I hope they come up with a lower cost option sooner than later. I know Apple wanted to simplify their hardware offerings but we haven't seen much benefit from that. The car thing devolved into just a component, and there hasn't really been a new "ecosystem" type product.

For a company that really grew quickly from music streaming products, I feel like they're dropped the ball with products to stream those massive iTunes libraries we now have. I mean they even removed the audio port from the AppleTv. I used to love streaming from my phone via AirPlay and not needing to turn the TV on to get the receiver to get the signal. Now I'm stuck with Bluetooth and an echo dot plugged into the stereo. Its just not the same.

Well done my son! I feel a tad foolish for not clicking the XL but to be fair the incredible features overall made the standard v XL difficult to gauge in Live stream.
I thought the bazels were the same ratio on both devices.

I'm pretty surprised after the fiasco last year. By the time I could even buy a Pixel XL, I was over it, and just did an iPhone 7+, which is what I still carry now. Bezels definitely smaller on the XL as you know. Hopefully you get it sooner!!

I'm sure they do. They need to know what the competition is up to if they're going to remain competitive.
