I think the most disappointing feeling was realizing Google can add portrait mode and so much more with one camera and do it front and back where as Apple makes it seem it's more hardware when in reality it's software

Look, Google is just better at software than Apple.

Google can give away free storage because your photos are the money makers.

It also helps that photos take up very little space. It's video that you have to worry about.

pixel 2 announcement is pretty much a failure. they had to use all their marketing tricks to make sure you don't realize it's the same hardware as last year.

It's techincally NOT JUST software. It's the dual pixel feature that makes it possible (this is also on samsung devices but only used for faster autofocus).

Basically, each pixel is actually 2 pixels which get you the two different perspectives to allow the software to come into play, rather than need two different sensors without dual pixel.

I'm not sure who these You Tubers are and how they were able to get these phones for comparison videos so soon but here is Pixel 2 XL vs IPhone 8 Plus Camera Everyone with early previews like this seem to be in India.

If a youtuber is a reviewer and has a lot of followers, it's pretty common for companies to give them their products to review ahead of time.

Yep but the Indian reviewers are super fast getting those comparison videos up! Wow! Of course they don't include commentary.

You get a code for it in email

Even if you order it through Google? I almost ordered through Best Buy as they have $100 off and the mini, but they only have the $hitty Verizon version.

Is it just me, or do the iPhone 8 plus pics look nicer? Nicer color saturation, and seem more detailed.

Oct 20-23 for me. Pretty hyped for it.
I don't know how you managed to pull that off, but that's incredible.

I was late pre-ordering because I wasn't aware that the pre-orders went live BEFORE they talked about them during the keynote. You should have seen my face when I jumped back over to the MacRumors tab in Chrome and saw someone say "pre-orders are live!"

And if you're interested in both, you're a bit screwed.
Hahaha. That was really funny, not gonna lie.

To each their own, but it's iOS that turns me off from the iPhone X. I'll catch myself going to Apple.com and looking at the iPhone X product pages, and ooh-ing and ahh-ing over the design; and then when I really get to thinking about all of the features that I'd lose if I went back to iOS, I promptly close the tab. :D

I guess it's all about ecosystem how heavily vested one is. I have an iMac MacBook iPad Apple watch iPad mini Apple TV and 7 others with iPhone in the house. As much as I lately feel like iOS is dated in terms of UI it's reliable and works well together.

I feel like Google just scares me in terms of security and hacks. What are the things you'd lose ?

It is subjective because boy I don't see it. The Pixels seem awkward. The buds have a neck wire, so that alone makes them inferior to the Apple airpods (which I consider ugly, but "truly wireless" should mean TRULY wireless). The 8 design on the front of the phone is boring but the glass back is gorgeous, and a pleasure to hold. The X is too polarizing to come to any conclusion about.
But they do more than the AirPods if you need that functionality.

I haven’t had a chance to look at the new pixels yet to see what they are all about. However I did order a google mini straight after the event.

These new phones don't excite me any more than the new iPhones did.

I agree. The XL 2 seems like a worse LG V30 and the Pixel 2 doesn't seem to really improve on last year's model in a meaninful way. Even then I considered the phones overpriced and I still do. I don't see any point in paying so much more to have stock Android when phones half the price can run LineageOS with OTA updates. Sure it takes more tech savvy but I would guess most people on this forum would be competent enough to follow instructions to install a custom ROM on their phone.

I've got Norton antivirus 3.0
10 devices approx £25 for the year. I notice the Play store gives it a very high rating, so I hope it won't slow down the OS. Just gives extra peace if mind.

Apart from the completely different screen and resolution LOL.
Would there be any point in putting in a quad HD display in a 5 inch screen though.

The play store has its own protection built in now. I used to use a viral scanner but don't bother anymore as there is one built in now.
