I just updated to Monterey 12.6 (MacBook Pro mid 2015) and I am experiencing a funny problem with Google Maps on Safari. The site loads normally, but as soon as I start zooming in or out I see this:

On other browsers, Google Maps seems to work fine.

Anybody?

Same problem here on mid2015 MBP.
Interestingly, Safari Technology Preview does not glitch and die but does crash the tab when trying 3D/Globe view.

Is anyone else experiencing problems with images not loading?
Yes. I have seen images not loading on one site. It was just grey boxes. Just looked again to confirm and it seems to work OK.

Google Maps, OS Maps, TomTom MyDrive are all still "broken".

Working fine for me on 12.6 with Safari 16. For those of you with the issue, what version of Safari are you using?

This bug appears to be affecting older Macbooks with dual graphics. The problem occurs with the integrated graphics (Intel Iris). Gmaps works normally with the discrete graphics (AMD Radeon). I've sent feedback to Apple & Google, already. Lets hope they fix this one.

Settings > Battery > Automatic Graphics Switching unchecked. Gmaps becomes functional on Safari 16.0, but with considerably more heat.

In general on my old '15 Macbook Pro, I use Firefox for Gmaps because of responsiveness and lower heat production (less fan). Safari is my default browser, but it is sadly lacking in performance for Gmaps.

Do the current Apple Silicon Mac's that use Safari get good performance with the use of 3D Gmaps? Any discernible fan?? Probably time for a new computer!!

I'm using Safari 16 as well, but as someone else pointed out, the issue appears to be affecting older Macbooks. I'm on a mid 2015 MBP, and I experience the issue.

Thanks for this comment and for sending feedback to Apple and Google! 👍

Safari is my default browser as well and I want to keep it like that, but for now I'm using Firefox for Gmaps.

It's probably time for a new computer thou. Looking forward to the new MBP with M2. That might be the one for me.

I'm having this issue on both my personal mid-2015 MBP and my shiny new 16" MBP work machine, so there must be some additional hiccup somewhere.
