I like the dynamic island (but I hate the name), but I wish it was better utilized. Right now it just feels so limited that it comes off as a gimmick. For example, maybe when the glucose measurement functionality comes to the Watch, the DI could alert the user to crucial alerts (insulin spikes or crashes).
I also wish it was more widely used. Hopefully with the release of the iPhone 15 things will improve.

Getting rid of this notch from 2024 (if the rumours are true) will be the best news ever. I can't believe how Apple Marketing was able to change the narrative and how gulable people actually are. It's still a notch, no matter what exotic name it's given, Lol
No it isn’t. How gullible are you to fall in line with the haters? It’s a pill shaped area that is a necessary design trade off given technical limitations. Apple didn’t make the pill static dead space. It is by definition dynamic.

And unlike the notch, dynamic island is, well, dynamic. The way Apple used a design tradeoff due to technical limitations into something interactive and useful is most certainly a great use of software. I have never understood the complaints of dynamic island.
Couldn’t they have just as easily made a dynamic notch?

Adaption of new iOS features is getting slower and slower. I still have not come across a single AppClip here for example
Me neither. As a consumer I was looking forward to them so I wouldn’t have to download so many apps from so many different businesses. But I suspect that’s precisely why devs have no motivation to make them—they want people to download their apps.

Well the pill itself isn’t dynamic, right? It’s the area of the screen around the pill that changes. Apple could have implemented that with or without the pill there. Which I believe they did with iPads?

Now if only Apple would introduce a fingerprint reader at the bottom of display, a circle cut out of the display, and then have TWO dynamic islands, that will be epic!

Over the last few years, I've been getting less and less excited for new software features that Apple introduces. It seems developers are less and less motivated to actually do anything with them. I feel most of the neat things Apple introduces at WWDC anymore I never actually end up seeing integrated.

I assume so, but the total area of the pill is a bit smaller than the 13/13 Pro/14 notch. And with the screen area above the pill, maybe they thought to do something with the area. Either way, the dynamic island is a great way to utilize the space since the tech needed for FaceID is still not quite ready for under display. I’ll take the design trade off.

I don’t think iPads have any dynamic ability. It’s already hidden since it’s built in to the bezel.

I want a dynamic mountain 🌋, as I’m averse to seawater 🏝️

🤓

I just would like to see more apps use it, if it sticks around, guess we’ll see in a 2 weeks: all in or not Apple???

As a developer we prioritise features that appeals to the maximum amount of people. Since Apple decided to add the two punch holes only to the screens of the least selling phones no wonder if developers postpone adding features to the cutouts.

People that are buying this for dynamic island are going to be so disappointed. Very little apps use it. It’s a bummer

I hate Google, but am still forced to use Google Maps sometimes (not signed in, and only via the web site - not the app) because it is so much better in Japan. It's incredible that a company like Apple managed to screw Maps up all those years ago and has still not recovered from it.

I never understood how so many people complained about a notch that’s nearly hidden on the top of an phone, but yet not a peep about the “massive” dynamic island sticking out even worse than a notch. Literally, folks were asking for all screen, no intrusion, and yet here we are with a blob in the way.

Dynamic Island has to be one of the best marketing tricks Apple has pulled off. Literally, silenced a world of notch haters with an even bigger notch.
Thank you! Pill lovers don't have much to say about that wasted gap of pixels between the bezel and the top of the pill. At least the notch feels somewhat uniform.

Imagine the edges of the screen being dynamic as well. Then it would be a peninsula!

Me too! I just get annoyed when Apple Maps can’t even say “Dr” as “Drive”
Can someone prove this has actually happened in the past 5 years?? It doesn't even happen when you pick a "non-USA" Siri voice since Siri went to 100% AI driven at least that long ago (and was the only reason it ever happened)
