To me, one of the largest problems with Pixel is their launch date.

They're bringing up the rear, and basically any Pixel user is always a year behind on available processors. I think June would be a MUCH BETTER month for launch. It would slot in behind Samsung and of iPhone nicely.

As it stands, Pixels are already dated in the Android world when they launch in October/November.

And for the love of life, at least make the hardware "mildly" attractive. Sheesh!!!
Yes that is definitely a problem they have. I tend to get them around the holidays, so I am actually using last year's hardware each release.

I am not sure they're in a position to dig themselves out of that situation anytime soon. These first 3 years, they have seemed barely able to keep up with the schedule they've been on.

I think the phones are getting better looking on the backs and sides. The front needs work.

I think, as a small-time Android OEM at this point, Google is trying to capture peak interest going into the holiday season. Same strategy of Apple. I honestly don't believe a June launch date would benefit Google. They need to bring up the year so they're center of attention going into peak buying season.

Also, the benchmark for Pixels is clearly iPhone, and those buyers are looking to buy at the end of the year (on a yearly, biennial, or longer cycle).

I LOVE their design for the back and sides, since the Pixel 2. And now they're seemingly getting rid of both the bathtub and the fatty lower bezel so IMO the Pixel 4 XL might well become the best looking phone of the year.

It'll be interesting to see if these leaks are true. Not sure I agree with their strategy on the cutouts: "Let's do what Samsung did, just a bit bigger!"

Either way, I'll get the 4 XL because I have a problem and can't stop myself.

I would rather have them copy Samsung over Apple which seems like a common theme for Android handset manufacturers these past round of devices.

I really do hope the Pixel 4's look like this. I want to hug them so hard! That's just such a nice clean look. I ran across these pictures again in BGR. From the back the Pixel 4 looks like my Xr . That's a nice thing. I like the looks of my Xr. I just hate how heavy it is. These are of course just renders based on drawings. But I bet Google does make the 4 look very nice this time. I mean they just have to.

Yum. Especially with the white on white with black accents, that really gets my sci-fi juices flowing. Ghost in the Shell vibes again.

Bonus points for the symmetry between the front facing camera cutout and the back camera: single-single for the small model and double-double for the XL. And those black accents will make the AMOLED blacks look like magic when they melt together.

This is both elegant and state of the art looking. If the display turns out to be big enough I might not be able to choose the Note 10 over this.

I always wonder how often tech companies leak details of their phones to prompt these renders as a way of polling consumers to see how well the design will be received.

If you pair that render with 6 GB of RAM and the latest snapdragon, you'd have a great phone.

I think adding a telephoto lens to the Pixel is also a must. While my Pixel 3 camera was better than my S10 plus, having zoom is no substitute for a telephoto lens. Results are night and day difference no matter how good the software is .

I do want super wide angle, too. I do wish Google would just step up and really give Huawei a run for the money. And put in 8GB of RAM, as Samsung has made that a flagship standard at this point. I don't think Google is really concerned with keeping up with Huawei or even Samsung. They seem to be trying to keep pace with Apple...from a year prior. This snails pace of incremental upgrades from both American based companies just astounds and frustrates me.

Neither seems to show any sense of urgency while Huawei seems determined to show them up at every turn. I suppose they (Apple and Google) feel confident in their captive American audience since we are under a trade ban with Huawei. They seemed to have lost focus on markets outside of the US this year, especially.

Apple has too much hubris tied up in Face ID. It is an amazing piece of tech and I think they rested too long on that particular achievement. Google rests too much on their software advantage. My husband and I take enough photos under enough different circumstances with enough smartphone cameras to know the Pixels don't always win in all circumstances. Even this year's Pixels sometimes can't compete with last year's Huawei P20PRO photos. My husband does still get updates to that phone.

Samsung seems at least to be making an effort and giving it all they've got. They're just a bit scatterbrained in how they do business.

Can't help thinking that becaue the hole punch from Samsung has been really well received, these renders are to appeal to those people and perhaps not the direction Google will actually take.

Knowing how Google likes to troll some and April 1st is almost here, I can't help but to think that would be a screen protector which when removed would reveal the xl 3 notch o_O:eek:

Seriously though, that render looks nice!

Hmm, someone in the comments points out that the front and back cameras on the renders are in the same corner, which might not be physically possible.

I recall many of the Galaxy S10 renders swapping the punch hole from left to right.

These are just rumours. Let's hope they're in the ballpark anyway.

I haven’t read every post in this thread but I thought I would share something of interest. As someone who's been pixel curious since the start I was told by a friend at Verizon that they were sure that Verizon was losing their exclusivity. If I could get this on T-Mobile that would be very tempting. But I’m also happy with my XS. I just like having gadgets..

I have also heard that rumor when the Pixel 3 was announced, they made it sound like the iPhone deal with ATT, that the 4th gen phone would then be open to all carriers.

So I would not be surprised to see the Pixel 4 / Pixel 4 XL finally available on more carriers.

It's a weird thing, but the difference between a good phone and a wildly successful phone is carrier store availability. At some point, the growth in the Pixel line is sufficient for Google to move on from any Verizon exclusivity.

MKBHD has a fun April Fools video about Pixel 4 leak. It's worth it to see him wearing a tinfoil hat! I missed it yesterday.

Lol, he's usually so serious so it was fun to see him kicking back and having fun.

It was so obvious since the Oppo Reno was announced already. But I guess western viewers have less clue. :D

After all the fuss last year with the notch & bezels, I can't see anything else but a nice looking phone.

I hope the second lens is wide angle, I use that much more than zoom.

And I really do hope they increase storage though, that's an area Google are behind everyone else. Without an SD card slot, 256gb is the sweet spot for me. But I have a feeling they keep it low to push people into Google photos subscriptions. But we all know it's just not the same.

No buttons would be a mistake. I don't really see the benefit. Its basically changes just for the sake of doing something different. The upside is small and the potential downside could be huge. Id much rather have a higher refresh rate and nope notch internals.
