I'm not expecting battery life on the P4 XL to be great.....but if it as good as the P3 XL...then I can live with that.
But I will wait an get in my hands to pass judgement.

I am right there with you, if it matches the Pixel 3 XL, I will be okay with it. Like everyone else, I wish it had a bigger battery. But I am also concerned with all the new tech that it may be worse, but I hope not. Have a preorder so I can see for myself. And will always look for opinions of those on this forum, which seem the most objective of any site as we all like iPhone and Android phones. Love this part of our forums for that reason, have to weed some posts out, but overall, a great place.

I'm glad I didn't wait for the Pixel 4 (XL) - it really seems like a let-down, especially when compared to the iPhone 11 Pro.

Pixel 4 (even the XL version) really only compares to the iPhone 11 (non-Pro) nowadays, with lack of ultrawide camera (a shocker, tbh), no 4K 60FPS video, bigger bezels, smaller battery in both 4 & XL, no free unlimited original quality Google Photos uploads, the radar doesn't work well and probably will only prove to be a gimmick.

Worse - the price is way out of line of the iPhone 11, if you consider storage prices.

I'm not hating on the Pixel 4 just to be hating on it, I'm being honest - being someone who almost skipped over the iPhone 11 Pro for my first Pixel. I want Pixels to be competitive to Apple's flagship phones, we need the competition.

I was hoping for an ultrawide lens, fantastic photos AND videos, useful soli gestures (to control the phone when outside and wearing gloves/while cooking) and great Android assistant. I then would have gone with it instead of iphone11 or oneplus 7T I was contemplating at the time.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be giving me most of that: no ultrawide lens, good photos and fairly good videos, no useful soli gestures yet, and android assistant only available in the US at release.

I did think of going back to ios with the iphone 11, but it doesn't particularly excite me. The gripability, the lack of a 'back' being easily accessible on the bottom right of the phone, no usb-c, and the huge notch was a minus.

I decided for now, OnePlus 7T with the large but thin body, 90hz display, acceptably good photos/videos and comparatively cheap price (€599) is the one to buy to use for the next 3 years.

I'm hoping by then, iphone will have an under €1000 phone with a notchless screen!
(I'd like to have an apple watch --> if they make it compatible with android phones, even better!)

I was genuinely on the fence about this phone but after seeing it in person today I preordered and should receive it by the 24th of October.

The screen is fantastic, it’s much more vibrant than previous models. I think it rivals Samsung panels, maybe even surpassing them, If you take in to account the 90hz refresh rate.

Next, the forehead, I like it. Yes it’s large but it serves a purpose and I can forgive it for that, I really don’t mind it at all. It actually find it useful, the way I hold a phone in landscape gives me somewhere to place my thumb without obscuring the screen like I do on my Note 10+.

The software is clean and fluid as ever and if possible feels a little more polished. I look forward to getting the phone in my hand, roll on next week.

Oh yeah, after my meltdown reaction to Tim Cook’s pandering to Beijing, I was keenly reminded by all of that how important it is to have options.

I’m definitely out of the running for a Pixel 4 anytime soon, but I am ridiculously excited we’ve got forum members getting theirs soon enough.

I don’t think they’re going to be that bad. Or bad at all. I just think we are going to keenly feel what we think is missing at the current price point.

I do at least think the black edges with the matte colors looks striking. Glossy black is pretty, too. Matte would have been more cool, though. It was an odd decision to make black be glossy. This was a year of odd decisions for them.

As a [H]ardcore Nexus / Pixel guy, I was disappointed in the Pixel 4 XL. But, there's really no other phone in 2019 I like.

- iPhone 11 Pro Max is great, but I can't stand iOS, so that's a no go. I think iOS needs a few more updates so maybe I'll like it come iOS15.
- OnePlus 7 Pro is very good, but poor camera, no IP68 rating, no wireless charging, and curved edge screens suck. Seems like OnePlus is close though, if they design a new phone with a flat screen, add IP68, and put in a good camera, doesn't need to be 11 Pro / Pixel 4 great, but close, it would be a hot seller.
- Samsung Galaxy phones, LOL, uh nope and never. Sorry but Lagwiz is real and still there, plus the duplicate apps, and bloatware galore.

So it does seem to me the Pixel 4 XL would be the phone to get. Need to see some full reviews before final decision.

My feelings as well! It was actually a lot better in person than online pictures.
I loved the display...my only worry was the brightness outdoors.
The forehead will become a non issue once people actually use the phone. It will be like the notch on iphones and last years Pixel models.
I should get shipping label notice Sunday night or Monday and delivery by Wednesday for my Just White Pixel XL.

after all that complaining? :eek:o_O:p

Gotta see first-hand myself.

If there was an untethered stable JB for A13 iPhone's, I would pick up a 11 Pro Max. But stock iOS I just can't do. But I greatly respect the 11 Pro Max, great phone if you can deal with iOS. Otherwise I'm a stock Android guy, and the OnePlus phones are close, but just missing some important things I like.

Out of the 25+ smartphones I've bought over the last decade +, I'd say more than half have been Nexus, Pixel, or OnePlus phones. And they the phones I've kept the longest, yes I have had the Samsung Galaxy, and HTC flagships, and iPhone's, but when I think about it, those were gone within 3 to 6 months, and the Nexus or Pixel phones, I would use for 9 to 12 months or longer. Lately it's been the Pixel 2 XL for a year, the Pixel 3 XL for a year, no other phones in between. We'll see how I like this 4 XL?

Dude, let it go with the whole Lagwiz nonsense. It makes you look like a guy that doesn’t know what hes talking about even though I know you do. First off, the play on words doesn’t even work because their skin hasn’t been called Touchwiz for 3 years now. Second, OneUI is arguably the best skin outside of OxygenOS and now actually adds useful functionality and design choices when before it was a bloated mess.

Its ok not to like Samsung phones or software. But stop spreading blatantly false information based on past experiences and dated facts.

To add on to the weird design choices by Google, no "new" Google Assistant without gesture navigation and if you are logged into a G-Suite account:

While I fully intend to use 3-button nav on Pixel 4, I guess it wouldn't have really mattered, since we use G-Suite at work...

Not to go way off topic, but One UI or whatever Samsung calls their UI now, still does indeed have slight microstutters, and very slight minimal hiccups. Which I never see on a OnePlus phone, and very very rarely on my Pixel. My most recent Samsung phone was the Galaxy S8+, and it absolutely lagged, fact. My office crew here has Note 9's, and I had to set them up for everybody, and yep, those for sure had slight microstutters that I rarely see on brand new phones. And I know when the phones is new out of the box there's a lot going on and downloading and installing. But I'm talking about after it's settled in, and totally up to date, and complete, these Note 9's still surprised me with some hiccups and very minor lag I wouldn't expect. I remember when the office here all got Galaxy S7 Edge's LOL holy cow those lagged like an old Windows 95 PC, that phone sucked so bad, all 8 of them here I was in charge of maintaining were horrific with lag and stutters and slowdowns

Now, I have not played with the S10, or Note 10, maybe Samsung finally is as smooth as Oxygen OS from OnePlus?

In my opinion, the smootheset lag free phones are;

-OnePlus
-iPhone Max
-Pixel

-Samsung and LG at bottom

🤦‍♂️

Google can’t even get full RCS support for the Pixel 4

This is exactly why RCS was never going to be the ubiquitous solution Google claimed it would be...and likely never will be. Why anyone would think Google, with their legacy of epic messaging ****up, could spearhead a platform wide Android messaging solution in the first place is mind boggling to me. They can’t even get it on their own phones.

Doesn't a lot of this fall onto the U.S. carriers as well? Verizon, ATT, T-Mobile, Sprint, need to agree and be on board too here, and I thought carriers were like, meh whatever.

At this point, I'll be the judge myself, if the phone sucks, or battery life is beef, I'll return it in my 14 day period. Good thing is though, my oldest daughter is ready for her first smartphone, and we can give her our Pixel 2 XL.

I have the 11 Pro and a Note 10 plus, had a Pixel 3 and a OnePlus 7 Pro- they all had/have micro stutters now and again, it’s no big deal. Out of al of them the OnePlus 7 Pro had the most consistent and smooth experience.
