When will we see real reviews? I'm very curious to see battery life results. I know it won't be 11 Pro Max battery life, but as long as it's much better then the Pixel 3 XL battery life, I'd be tempted then.

Probably early next week. I don't think we will see much better battery, I think we will see similar battery life.

I don't understand why someone wouldn't want a larger battery in the Pixel 4's?

I'm no Apple fan, but good for them on increasing battery size in the new 11 Pro's, it would be like the Pixel 4 XL having a 4,400mAh battery. That's the equivalent of the 10 XS Max to 11 Pro Max battery upgrade.

If Google did that, or even close, I'd be extremely happy. But I'm afraid the 3,700mAh battery in the 4 XL will just be the status quo of mediocre battery life, not bad, but not great.

The Pixel 4 XL should have come with a 4,000mAh battery minimum.

Yes. For me, the battery improvement on the 11 Pro is the single biggest reason for my satisfaction with the device right now. The camera improvements are great too but the fact that I never have to worry about battery now is fantastic.

I could be in the minority, but I never use tech reviewers as a measure of battery life.
The Pixel 3 battery was said to be small, but could just about get through the day. WRONG.

Never do reviewers seemingly have the issues the users do - like the battery drain experienced on my Pixel 3 (and Pixel 2) which meant by 5:30pm it was on 40 odd percent without even being touched all day.

For me, you just have to bite the bullet and try it, which is why it's good that google offer a 14 day window to give it a whirl.

For me, the Pixel 4 is clearly going to be a good phone. Every year, I generally say the same thing. It launches, and it's a disappointment, but using a Pixel is often a very satisfying experience (issues aside).
The camera is top tier, the build will be very solid, the haptics are unrivalled for Android (Note 10 was GREAT, though), and the screen looks to be improved with the refresh rate.
No one can deny, that coupling those things with the flat screen, matte back and likely very good feel in hand will make for a fantastic user experience.

Better than your curved Note 10's, P30 Pro's etc - all of which boast more on paper, but are probably not as enjoyable to use day to day. That's been my experience anyway, and I don't see the Pixel 4 being any different.

Does it mean I want to buy one above the iPhone 11 I'm currently rocking? No. Not really. But that's only because where Google is still making questionable decisions, Apple is doing the opposite.
Lower price (for 11), better battery, wide angle camera, a camera that is getting more and more improved and closer to Pixel, and that Apple support.

When the price drops, I will likely go for it as I've done with last 2 Pixels, as I have had great value for money doing it that way.
But the draw of the Pixel for me, was always the camera. And now the competition is getting closer, it leaves the Pixel, at that price, in a very uncertain state for me.

I wouldn’t hold my breathe on the Pixel 4 battery being anything but bad. And honestly, have Google ever made a phone with battery life that was anything besides average?

None of the Pixel devices have had great battery life and none of the Nexus devices did either. It’s something they clearly don’t prioritize.

Especially on such a compact form factor.

My only reason for not wanting a larger battery is because it makes the phone heavier. For something I use day in and day out, I’d rather the phone be lighter. The 11 Pro feels like a brick and I know I’ll have difficulty holding it if I decide to get it. Even my iPhone 8 Plus is too heavy for me (the battery on it is awful as well). Sure, I could get a smaller phone, but I prefer big screens. I can’t do anything to make a phone lighter, but I can do something about a small battery (charge the phone more often, which doesn’t bother me too much given the ubiquity of outlets). I know I’m in the minority with this opinion and I understand why others would prefer a larger battery. The light feel of Pixel phones is one reason why I would consider getting one; weight is that important to me.

Different thread, but the Note 10+ has a monster battery and is extremely light. Materials and not just the battery make a huge difference in weight.

Guessing this was to be expected

Screen Attention

The Google Pixel 4 devices also come with a Screen Attention, a feature similar to Samsung’s Smart Stay which prevents the Pixel 4’s screen from turning off while you’re looking at it. This happens with the help of the front-facing camera on the smartphone just like Samsung’s Smart Stay. We found references to the feature in the third and the fourth beta of Android 10/Q. Its presence was later affirmed with a Pixel 4 hands-on video that surfaced last month.

Battery on my XL 2 is what I would call pretty acceptable, mostly Twitter and a couple web visits throughout my day with some hangouts (until Google nukes it). My XL 3 I think it's battery has kind of taken a hit with Android 10 (also notice stuttering in the notification screen most times, it's a different stuttering then say old time Sammy devices), but I mostly use the 3 as YouTube and sometimes music player since it's unrooted now.

I think my normal daily use of my XL 2 I could forget to charge before bed and probably make it through the day at work. XL 3 if I put it as a daily driver, not so sure.

Kind of off topic here I suspect?

Bottom line if it was similar to the XL 2 in battery life I think I'd be okay with that. But that screen and some always on sensors? I donno.

It would give us a much better idea on battery life if he posted a pic of the actual time in use. Not just "I’m down to 22% already".

Am I missing something? The accompanying screen shot shows only 9 hours off of charge with the largest app usage listed just below. I realize we’re not seeing specific screen on time but it clearly wasn’t being used to watch video, make calls, game or browse the web so regardless of the SOT number, this isn’t good.

People can make whatever excuses they want. Good battery life just never made sense for the Pixel 4 with the processor, screen resolution, refresh rate, and battery size. The math just doesn’t add up.

I'm not expecting battery life on the P4 XL to be great.....but if it as good as the P3 XL...then I can live with that.
But I will wait an get in my hands to pass judgement.

Reaction video from the launch event of all of the Youtubers and tech influencers has surfaced. They all seem kinda meh on the phone.
It seems google spent all of their money on the launch event treating the Youtubers to flights/hotels/goodies instead of on product development.
