So my pixel 5 got stuck on a bootloop since the April update... that was 15 days ago, I checked the status online and it said: not repaired, OUT OF WARRANTY I was like WTH since this is not possible, because I bought the phone in November of last year, and phones in Europe have 2 years of warranty.

I got my phone back on Friday and ... get this ... on the box of the phone it says overall not repaired: OUT OF WARRANTY. Apparently google unlocked the bootloader in order to repair the phone and ... forgot to lock it, so now every time I turn on the phone, I get this warning:

Pixel-3-bootloader-unlocked-1280x720.jpg

I called google and they tried to blame it on me  Saying that I unlocked the phone and installed unofficial software on it and that is why the phone stopped working, which is absolutely not true, I got a pixel to not have to deal with roms, having to root the phone to uninstall bloatware and the likes.

I contacted google a second time (I actually wanted to tell them to eff off , but I do want this situation to be fixed) an they said on Monday morning that they are going to replace the phone for me if it still has the problem "oh no google don't worry, it fixed itself out of the blue (I am joking of course)". I told them I still have the same issue and that of course I want to get a replacement and I haven't heard from them ever since... so now it's been like 17 days without a properly working phone.

I guess you are complaining ... I'm not sure why; out of warranty; offered to replace phone, but phone "fixed itself".

I was not very clear, probably I was mad when I wrote that original post, my apologies, I edited the message now. The phone still has warranty for at least 15 more months. I was joking when I said that it fixed itself, I just thought their reaction was silly, I contacted them a second time to say that my phone is still not working properly because it has the same issue and their reply was, does it still have the same issue?

I recently became eligible to upgrade the Pixel 3 I’ve been using as a work phone. I didn’t want another iPhone originally (my personal phone is an 8+), and we use Google services at work, so the Pixel seemed like the natural choice. But I haven’t been very happy with it these past two years, and strongly considered just going with a iPhone instead of upgrading to a Pixel 5.

Well, I ended up choosing the new Pixel, and it’s so much better than the Pixel 3. They seem to have really solved some of the biggest “pain points” I experienced with that phone. The Pixel 5 is very cool and well-designed (physically, it’s one of the most comfortable/ergonomic phones I’ve ever held).

I still don’t think I’d be happy using a Pixel as my sole/personal phone — besides the “lock-in” factor of iMessage, Apple Maps, and Safari (all of which I love), there’s just something about iPhone/iOS that’s a pleasure to use. The Pixel feels more utilitarian… but that’s fine/appropriate for a work phone (with a few personal apps on it).

The Pixel 5, while slightly disappointing for the tech enthusiast people, is exactly what Google have been aiming for with the Pixel lineup IMO. They wanted an Android version of the iPhone. Its a phone that focuses on a cohesive OS that lets the software create the best user experience rather than going the Samsung approach which is to use all the top hardware specs and throw ever feature they can think of at the user.

you can relock the bootloader so you never see that message again.

Oh I know, but I got a pixel to not have mess with my phone EVER again, I was tired of rooting, locking/unlocking bootloaders, custom rooms (full of bugs) and the likes, google did this so they are the ones who should fix it. I'll be sending my phone to google again next week, they offered to give me a replacement.

all I am saying is it would take you like 3 minutes to lock the bootloader. It would seem to be the easiest way to solve the problem. No phone calls...no emails...no waiting...no sending the phone back.
But I see where you are coming from.

Oh i know what you mean, I think I didnt bother because I kinda got ded up with google , I’ve had 7 nexus/pixel sevices and I’ve had issues with 4 out of those 7 devices (apart from my mom’s and a friend’s nexus 5x … and I convinced them to get those devices). I just got an iphone 12 and I’m selling the pixel 5 as soon as the replacement device arrives. :(

I’ve discovered the auto-brightness is a little wonky on this phone (though not nearly as bad as on the Pixel 3). That must be hard to get right; Apple definitely has it nailed down.

I've never liked any auto brightness on Pixels ever... They are always too low when adjusting to surroundings...

The Smart Lock feature (stay unlocked while I’m at home) worked for a few days, then stopped working. I’ve tried toggling it, restarting the phone, etc. Weird.

First leaks on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro (yes Pro) out now. I'm on my phone but check Jon Prosser on Twitter or his YouTube channel. Others have confirmed the design is real.

Yeah Apple’s is so good that I can’t even remember the last time I even thought about the brightness of the display.

Smart lock is so unreliable, it works only 50% of the time, even during the pandemic that I was mostly at home in THE SAME PLACE, it failed to work so many times that I just lost count

So much for google deciding to focus on mid range then…

Think the tech world needs more competition so hopefully it’s worth it.

No specs have leaked yet but some leakers have hinted they know the specs so I expect we'll hear soon. They're acting like Google is going flagship again this year.

The images look really good. Don't know if anything could stray me from iOS again though. If the S21 Ultra didn't stick, then I don't know what will. Plus, Google's constant quality control issues, but if I ever had an extra 1,000 sitting around, maybe.

Max Wienbach is hinting the camera sensors are new and there are higher storage option. Also, confirms that they will come with Googles white chapel chipset developed in partnership with Samsung.

I'm not sure if it's actually been used in a phone yet, but Sony have a new 1" sensor (IMX800). I think that would make a huge improvement to the Pixel camera.

Now there's no Note 21, a Pixel is the only phone I'll consider this year. But it has to have an XL version of at least 6.5". If they're going to use a new chip & new sensor, they really need to appeal to both big & smaller phone customers.

I would've preferred Google stock with the best Snapdragon. The potential of their own chip is really high in 2-3 when the bugs are worked out. But the potential for issues is also really, really high.

It is going to be a weird fall. Usually I'm all in on Samsung and then the new iPhone comes out and then I sway that way. Upgrading to the new iPhone will be an easy decision but yeah I will still keep an eye on the Pixel 6 just in case it actually delivers.
