Maybe you are new to Android, before 4.3 without trim encoded lag was a real thing even on flagships. Today many low end phones and some models that the trim encoding doesn't work correctly suffer from lag.

Must be a magic steel locker then. Or you own magic phones that process signal dropouts differently. How do you fit insde your locker to read signal strength by the way, I'm impressed.

Oh so all the other phones (4 of them) that have no battery drop are magic too are they? Do you know that it's a steel locker? Do you know where the locker is, how big it is? No you don't. So you're probably best just keeping your mouth shut on matters you know absolutely nothing about.
Coz I sure as hell don't want to know your opinion. So thank god for the ignore list. :)

Thanks for the review. I think you're right on the money. Honestly, the 3a strikes me as a phone for someone who reluctantly needs to replace their old iPhone and aren't thrilled about the giant screen on the XR or the high price of the XS.

If she wasn't afraid of Google, I would at least suggest my mother-in-law try the Pixel 3a.

People aren’t gonna to switch from iPhone to google pixel 3a. At least the common folks google is trying to target.

It’s very simple. The Trojan horse from Apple is iMessages. People like their high definition picture message and videos from other iPhone users. And no. They aren’t inclined to install WhatsApp Facebook messenger etc.

They don’t want to be the green bubble and see the grainy mms video messages.

The processor speed difference will hardly be noticeable in everyday use to be honest.
Google really changed the game with the Pixel 3a....flagship phone with a mid range price.

I think this will end up being a brilliant move by Google. Ironically, I ordered the Pixel 3 reg. size in white at the discounted price of $599 a week before the 3a came out but I absolutely love the Pixel 3 but would be just as happy with the 3a for everyday use. I have the Iphone XS reg. and the Pixel 3. Both great phones. Glad to see Google attempting to shift direction on smartphone prices. 3a... genius move by Google!

This is exactly how I feel, I like how iMessage chats send faster and are just higher resolution

If there were a good universal thing that I could use on my upcoming Pixel 3a I'd love it, but unfortunately not ― I'm not super keen on FB Messenger, nobody has WhatsApp, and the camera on Snapchat is **** (+ my mate doesn't use it)

I owned the G1 and probably 20+ Android phones since then. Lag on phones after 2 years or so would happen because OS and apps got more resource hungry as the OS evolved and the SOC and RAM stayed the same. This is less and less of an issue in the past 3-4 years because OS and apps have stalled somewhat in terms of resources they require yet phone manufacturers keep increasing RAM and SOC capabilities.

Lag over time was also an issue in iOS devices after a few years but was less prevalent due to iPhones having better chips and the OS being more optimized to use less resources.

People who still say Android phones lag over time are the same people that still thing all Samsung phones lag. Its a notion built on outdated facts. If the SOC is sufficiently powerful and theres enough RAM, most phones wonts develop very much lag in a 2-3 timeframe unless the OS shifts a significant amount.

Google continues to drop the ball in regards to developing an iMessage alternative for Android. They put faith in carriers to adopt RCS when they shouldve known full well that they wouldnt handle it well. If Google is all-in on RCS (and they shouldnt be), they should make it a server side thing that they control and get it out of carriers hands.

Even better would be just to copy iMessage. I know Google think they can make something better or at least different but sometimes you just have to admit when a competitor has nailed something which Apple has with iMessage. Android has enough differentiating factors from iOS that put it ahead IMO. Why continue to lose in messaging when you can just copy iMessage, even the playing field there, and continue to be superior in other fields such as customization, phone choices, cost, assistant, auto, etc.

I received my 3a yesterday. What a nice little device. Feels great in the hand and doesn't feel too cheap to me at all. Feels very Nexus-like, which is a big plus in my book. I loved the Nexus line. I'll report back once I put it through the rounds for a few days.

Now to see if they accept my Pixel 1 trade in for $400! Hopefully they inspect it soon and let me know. I'm a bit nervous about it.

Do you guys really miss wireless charging? Asking for a friend.

I don't wireless charge anyway. If I had a better one (like the pixel stand) where you can't really go wrong with where you put the phone, then I'd utilise it.

But I was late for work twice with my iPhone XR due to me placing it down on my circular charging pad and it not charging and dying in the night. So I vowed never again lol.

The iPhone being glass backed and the charger being a high gloss plastic didn't really help either I guess.

Plus, my wireless charger is sloooow. I personally prefer fast charging.

Got around to dropping my sim card in the 3aXL. I like it so much that I may sell my s10+ .

The camera lives up to the hype big time.

I will seriously miss Samsung pay though. I wonder if I can get it working on my gear S3.

Day 2 battery wasn't as good but still got me through the day just fine . Battery reporting is kind of opposite of ios . On iOS it stays on 100% forever . On this it drains pretty quickly early and then by 50% or so it seemed to slow down .

Today I was on LTE much longer . I ended the day with 28% and 4 hours SoT .

The lack of wireless charging and the fact that the S10+ is a battery juggernaut arethe only things keeping me from making the switch.

Anyone got the new Gboard for those that use it?! Soooo much nicer. The emoji in particular have had a big overhaul and searching through them now is a great experience.

My 3a got it automatically and my Pixel 3 never. I updated the app on my reg 3 two days ago but still no change. I've had to opt into the Gboard beta for it on my reg 3 but the 3a just auto got the change. Very strange.

Still, makes a great keyboard even better!

How are you liking the 3a compared to the 3? I’m tempted but I’d struggle with 64gb.

I'm not... Ha. I still have it and have been using it sporadically whilst I try and decide what to do.

But I already know the 3 is the much better device. I can tell the difference in materials as soon as I pick the 3a up. Had I not bought the 3 two weeks before the 3a release, I could've bought a 3a and never known the difference.

But having them side by side and it's obvious. The vibration motor is also better on the 3. It isn't as loud. You can hear the vibration on every key press with the 3a, even with the intensity turned down to the absolute minimum. There's also no option in the 3a settings to reduce the vibration motor to 'low' whereas it's there on the regular 3. I've had to turn it down via Gboard on the 3a but it hasn't made any difference.

Bezels are larger on 3a which again, I recognise now given my use of the 3. Speakers are tinnier on the 3a and I prefer the ones on the 3.

And lastly the smaller more one hand friendliness of the regular 3 is more my taste.

The only thing I prefer about the 3a is battery life.

Is GBoard the one with the Google logo in the left corner? If so the OP7 comes with it preinstalled and I'm enjoying it. Not as much as iOS but it's pretty good.

Last night I went to a leaving meal with my old carphonewarehouse pals, as one of the girls there I worked with was leaving after finishing her uni course and getting full time work.

Out of the 11 of us, there were 2 Pixel 3a's, one regular Pixel 3 (mine) and two Pixel 3 XL's. :D

Was a nice change from iPhones being everywhere!
