Got a custom 27 i7 iMac. One big issue.

Is this normal? It really bums me out that the bottom corners are super bright causing everything to wash out. It isn't yellow, just bright. You can see in these 2 pictures.

I really can't just pick up a new one since my iMac was custom ordered and I already started installing the software. I have no buzzing from the display, no yellow tint..

It is very distracting. Even while playing a game, or even adjusting color for photos etc..

That's uneven backlight. Even though it was BTO, you have a right for new one, that is NOT acceptable. It doesn't matter if you have installed software, you have 14 days to return it. Call Apple and ask for a replacement
 
Don't they even check this stuff out before shipping? Well I don't want a totally new machine, I just want the display fixed. So I need to drop it off at a Genius bar then? This really sucks.

They do check what they can. But you have to remember they'll check 1000's of units each day. So it's hard to spot every bad one. Apple aren't perfect.

No you don't need to take it to the genius bar. Just PHONE AppleCare. They'll collect your old one and send you a new one.
 
Which 27" iMac?

@CountlovE: Is your new iMac the just recently released July 2010 update, or one of the previous Oct '09 release versions?
 
IPS glow vs. backlight bleed


Does the light disappear as you move your head around relative to the screen? I think you're going to see light on an IPS panel with a pitch black background.
 
that happend to my new samsung tv aswell, one week later the backlight bleed was gone

It's a brand new 2010 i7 2.93 with SSD, 2 TB storage, and 8 gigs of ram.

Spent 4k for this thing, I shouldn't have any screen issues.. 1/4 of the display is really bright. If you change the viewing angle it goes away but then everything else is brighter. I do hope this isn't the case for all of them. You only notice it on black or dark areas such in photos, movies, or games. You won't notice it with normal usage.

If I change my viewing angle it goes away, but then everything else is brighter. Like the brightness is inverted. I have 14 days to return this for full refund, do I get an extension on the 14 days if it goes in for service right away?

I just got it shipped to me yesterday. I am going to give them 1 chance to make it perfect or I am going to demand a full refund.

I already emailed Steve Jobs. I hope he goes on a yelling rampage at Apple HQ.

Did this when I had an iMac, though I told them I was going to personally raise some hell over the phone.

You know what happened? They hung up when I asked them about it.

I ended up getting a refund and building my gaming PC, unless you want to go through the whole getting a perfect iMac, get a refund and either hold onto your money and wait for them to say the issues aren't there anymore, or save up for a Mac pro. Or, hackintosh is always an option, but not recommended.
 
Well they are sending someone to replace the screen. If they can't fix it in the first try I will get a refund.

But seriously, are there any new iMacs that don't have the problem as in my pictures above? Or do I have advanced retina vision in my own eye?
 
The same thing happend to mine hen I first got it however after a day or two of use it seemed to go away. Wait a couple days and see if it disappears. I did end up having to the send the iMac back anyway due to a hard drive issue and am awaiting my replacement

Well shame on Apple for selling a car before the paint drys. I do hope that's the case with this..

If you're willing to have them go through the trouble of replacing the whole screen why are you so hell bent on them not giving you a whole new machine, you just bought it for goodness sake. Why is a refund already in consideration? :confused:

Well my spare time is a huge factor in this for me. Reinstalling Windows, along with preloading all of my software is a time consuming. Not to mention that everything else seems to function just fine right now. No dog whistle, no hard drive issues etc. If I narrow down the issue to the display I feel it would be far better for me to get this fixed than waste more time with a new machine every time. Not to mention my unit was built to order so the narrow time return time of 14 days is very small. I don't want to be stuck with an iMac that will never have a properly working display.
 
Honestly, that doesnt look too bad. I remember I had the 30" Cinema Display a couple years back and those spots you see in the corner was close to the center of the display and I've been through 3 of them.

This is why I'm weary of the 27" LED ACD as usually bigger displays have the backlight bleeding problems and the smaller displays in the 20"-24" has no issues like this or is barely noticeable.
