Hello,
So yesterday I got an iPad Pro 11.
The iPad is a beast! Performance is fast as hell, Face ID is just as great as on my XS Max and I love it.
Pro motion is a whole new revelation and a game changer for browsing. Also, the speakers are pretty sick!
So what is the problem? It’s the formfactor...
I am just not feeling it as comfortable and practical as my old mini 4.
The mini 4 is great to carry around the house, tomou-se while standing, to thumb type on forums and reddit.
The Pro not so much.
I don’t find myself reaching for it as much as I reach for my mini.
Granted I still have a bulky case on the pro, as it was the only one that was in stock and I really didn’t want to bring it home without a case, but still...
The mini has a screen protector and the silicone case and Smart Cover combo and while at home I never use the Smart Cover. Just the silicone case to be able to place the iPad on any surface without worry.
I might get a similar tpu back cover for the pro to try it out.

Another thing... is the pro a different aspect ratio? I am not feeling it as comfortable to browse in portrait orientation as the mini.

Anyway, this is my first impressions on the pro.
Here are them both:

So this is more about a bigger tablet vs a smaller tablet and not necessarily the much better and new technology in the iPad Pro vs mini?

Why did you get this model? Yes, the specs are better but you don’t appear to be using Pencil or keyboards and from what I’m reading the bigger size isn’t an improvement either to you. You could’ve also gotten a Mini 5.

Yes, I am not using neither the pencil nor the keyboard. Although I might get the keyboard in the future.
I got this mainly for Face ID, more ram, better soc and the 120hz refresh. Also, it was a good deal so I jumped on it. :)

Yeah, would I choose only one ipad to keep, I’d have the Mini. I regard mine as the main device, so easy to bring everywhere!

But I’ve found that having a bigger one as a “home-ipad” is great too! The compromise of lesser portability isn’t such a big issue for a device that is just moved from room to room and a big screen is a big screen!

The Mini works great in the cockpit - my 12.9" is just too large. But I now carry the 11 inch during flights. I like the larger screen - will not ever use a Mini.

I had the 12 nine and it was just way too big for me I had bought the 10.5 and it’s absolutely perfect

Anything that involves scrolling just feels much better.
Web pages, Reddit, forums...
It’s not something that is needed. But once you use it, it is just much nicer.

i too am a mini 4 to 11 pro convert. Short of the october or march ipads having oled i wont regret too hard haha. However a 120hz mini might...

iPad mini is good. But so is iPad Pro. Really love it, it's the go-to travel and sleep device, it's with me always.

Yeah there really is no point in getting the Pro for your use case unless you just really like new technology. If form factor is your major concern, and you like the mini size, I’d have stuck with that.

For me the 11” Pro is the best piece of tech I’ve ever owned. The smaller bezels make it feel like a completely different device, and I got a ton more screen in the same form factor as the 9.7” models I’d been carrying for years. But I don’t use a case, which keeps it light and thin, and use the folio keyboard and the pencil extensively. There is just nothing else like it on the market, and the size is perfect for me - a near perfect replica of the paper notebooks I used to carry.

Yes, I guess it was kind of that.
I like new tech and I never had an iPad Pro before.
So this great deal came up and I took it.
I have been using it today naked and in fact it is better to use than with the bulky case I have.
But still, it is heavy for thumb typing. And the bigger screen also makes it more difficult to type.
I usually switch to landscape and sit it on my lap to type.
I am still getting used to it, but am thinking of o should keep it or not.

My initial idea when I picked it up was to sell my mini 4 because the specs on the pro are just so much better.
But now I am thinking if i should sell the mini 4 and the pro and just get e mini 5 and pocket the rest of the money.

ive also just accepted that it'll never be as easy to type on as the mini

You're not alone. It' a nice device, but it isn't 700+ dollars nice to me so I took mine back and got an Air 3. Touch ID also works infinitely better than Face ID, which was constantly being blocked by my hand on the Pro.

Very slightly different. Aspect ratio is 1.43:1 on Pro 11 vs 1.33:1 on other iPads.

I expect it's primarily the larger size rather than the AR that's your primary issue with the device.

I personally would love to stick with the Air 3, but the risk of bright spots, especially showing up after apple care expires is just too great. With the power under the hood of these newer model ipads, keeping them beyond 2 years is no problem at all, so I don't want to be forced into upgrading because of a screen defect.

Because the case I have is very bulky and heavy and I don’t want to use the iPad naked, today I got a Chinese replica of the old smart cases that Apple used to make for the air 1 and air 2.

It is not a perfect case in regard to fit and finish, but the price was 10 euros, so I was not expecting Apple quality.

Anyway, it is slim and light, fits good and all the holes line up good.

Now I’ll test it over the weekend to see if it improves the usage for me.

You’d be surprised but that extra width means widescreen video is noticeably bigger than the traditional sizes
