So you get a tiny bit of grain in extremely specific cases that you still need to look extremely hard for, but fixed the ghosting, blooming, latency issues. The mini LED was great, the OLED is better, to me.
+1. The grain on the OLED I only notice sometimes, in specific situations, whereas the ghosting on the mini LED displays was always noticeable.

Despite not being flawless it's a clear improvement over prior displays. Whether it's worth the upgrade is personal preference, but to put it simply, I would still take this display with the grain over the mini LED one even if Apple offered that in a M4 configuration.

I’ve got an 11” M4 and after checking closely for this issue I can report that this is not present on my iPad. Haven’t noticed any blooming on my 12.9” M1 either. I’ll enjoy my mini LED 12.9” as well. Just not as much as my OLED, difference is very noticeable to me.
What is your manufacture date, You can check in setting -> battery -> battery health

Not to open another pandora's box but you might be onto something.

There is some font fringing on OLEDs for sure and that would be subpixel structure responsible for that. It's not as bad as gaming OLED PCs in last years still, but it's nowhere near as good as RGB sub-pixel structure and whatever they used in LCD iPads.

I haven't seen anyone complain about it yet, so figured it might be my eyes only. PWM could be responsible for worse experience as well.

This is what mine looks like like took a picture of it in a very dark setting at about 25 to 30% brightness, to the naked eye I cannot see anything whatsoever even if I’m in a very dark space I can only see it if I take a very close-up photo or if I use a magnifying glass other than that, I see absolutely nothing,

So i would agree, and in fact i do, the screen grain is a thing, it is like vertical banding on an oled tv, IE it is just part and parcel for the display tech some have more or less dithering at times of spotting it.

The PWM is a thing, and it may be jarring people who have not had a screen this size be PWM and this low a rate.

Then there is the sub-pixel fringe on text, they could optimize this with a oled rendering of the font…. they have not.

So you get white text with mora around it, for some like my self i find this to be unpleasant to view for long periods of time. I am left with not amazing options, but they are for me and that’s my issue. My view of the product and its issues are not related to others, and i am saying most if not all people will be blown away with this display and the tech. I seem to have drawn the unlucky straw. I also drew the unlucky DLP straw [ can see rainbows on none triple DMD deployments].

Well, if you got the unlucky straw, maybe you should try to exchange it? And if they won't exchange it for that reason, just return it for a refund and buy a new one.

I wonder why it isn’t a big deal on the iPhone 15 pros. They are grainy too but I never saw people freak out about it. 🤷‍♂️

It’s slightly obvious on dark avatars , etc However overall it’s a clean picture and not grainy. Being there’s 2 manufacturers it’s hard to tell which panels
May be a little worse quality

Just out of curiosity, does mine look really bad? Or have you seen worse?

it actually seems the usual grainy ”issue” reported here. If it’s a problem of manufacturing, you seem to have it.

In any case i’m always more convinced it’s not an issue but normal behaviour of OLED, noone yet has posterd here grainy issue visible form normal viewing distance, that is what matters… sorry if I missed any post answering this question

Mine is similar. There is fine grain and not really obvious unless I’m looking for it. I think all panels have this similar grain and the pictures shared here accentuate the issue depending on how they were taken.

According to Apple every display is factory calibrated for incredibly accurate colour. In operation they monitor and adjust the brightness of each individual pixel.
For those wondering it is their official statement on it. That being said I do think the panel lotto is a thing as I returned my iPad Pro to Best Buy and switched it for another one. This panel looks sharper.

Just looked at two 13” next to each other in Apple Store London. One had awful awful grain and one was completely clear. Grain could be seen at all brightnesses in a super bright shop. I would have been super angry to receive one like that (Bought a 12.9 M2 a couple months ago on offer).

Same thing why people of the 16“ M1 Max MacBook Pro’s don’t complain about blooming, they simply don’t have the same level of blooming / grain as the iPads.

Wow, that suggests there may be variances between panels then. I can’t see any grain on my display, no matter how hard I look.

This is the best iPad screen I’ve owned.

The 13" has two panel suppliers though right, LG and Samsung.

11" is just Samsung I believe. Pure speculation, but I think the grain comes from the Samsung panel... I also see grain if I look very close on my iPhone 15 Pro. Very difficult to see it though since the higher PPI does a good job of masking the effect.

Are people seeing this issue with he naked eye or are they only seeing it when taking a close up photo or using a magnifying glass?

I am going to end up returning it due to eye strain issues, and i am not 100% sure where the eye strain is coming from. The reddit people would point the finger at PWM, but i am not sure that is what it is, all i know is the text is not as clear nor as sharp as any of my IPS units, and as i use this for productivity and not just watching hdr, that’s a deal breaker for me. This is a very personal thing, and i would not say it is all people at all times in all places etc….. just my own personal experince.

I watned to love this, heck i have held out for a better display on the 11 for years and here i am the moment has arrived and it is like a giant let down
Probably should get a 12.9" with the miniLED display, if you can live with the larger unit/display.
