Yeah, I just got my 11 inch Pro and I notice the grainy aspect only if I look it real up close in a dark room with very dim brightness. It is a tad noticeable when I am watching something while lied down with the iPad really close to my face. But tbh, it is barely noticeable if I am focusing on the content. Besides, I just checked all the iPad Pro on display at the Apple Store 5th avenue and they all seem to have the same screen artifacts as mine. This machine is so powerful with such beautiful contrast and deep blacks that I don’t mind the very slightly grainy aspect.

Maybe I’m lucky, or maybe my eye sight isn’t good enough any more lol, but I can’t seem to get a grainy display. Is it odd that I’m still worried it does have a bad display, yet I can’t see it? Lol

Me too as hard as I try, including putting my face right up to the screen I just can’t see it. I do believe people who have posted they see it on their screen.

Can someone tell me how I can test this out? I haven’t yet checked to see if I have this on my iPad.

You can go into the display settings, turn on dark mode, and then drag the white brightness slider right below the Light option. You’ll see the gray parts of the screen develop some fine grain. On mine, it’s barely noticeable unless I get real close to the display and look for it.

I also noticed the graininess on my 15pro max but the m4 ipp is much worse with dark backgrounds

Tbh the source of the issue is on the QA part of manufacturing these screens. It's not like the design is permanently flawed. There is a de-mura tuning process that they should be going through. We just don't know if they still are or if they're rushing through it.
I wonder if the de-mura process is harder with a stacked tandem display. How would they knew which pixel is off or what to correct when they can't tell the difference between the two?

Just enjoy your device instead of looking for issues lol

if it’s a worry return and get a refund. It’s a non issue for me and I love the display.

Or just an eye for detail.

Or mild neurosis. 🙂

Anyway, I examined my iPad with all kinds of gray at all levels of brightness. I don't see anything grainy. I also took a look at the iPads at store, and while lighting wasn't perfect, there was no grain.

it makes me think you have the issue, considering that others saw the same in store, but the fact is that it’s not an issue if you don’t notice it… or maybe you just look at several ipad without such characteristic, but at this point seems unlikely. Just my 2c

This guy has been reading MacRumors Forums and other sites and then noticed the graininess on his unit.

Yeah, but he had to take of his glasses, put his face uncomfortably close to the screen and watch in a dimly lit room. All OLEDs have minor uniformity issues, especially on certain gray backgrounds, if you go look for them. My LG C7 has slight banding, and I'm sure my C1 has some imperfections.

I don't know if some people have defective screens, but regular screens are fine. OLED is not a perfect technology, just the best we have currently.

Yes, I notice grain on gray backgrounds if I go into the bathroom, turn the lights off and place the iPad 4cm away from my face. I don't notice it in any version of regular usage, and that's what I meant.

I don't consider this an "issue". An "issue" is something that is a problem. I notice similar uniformity issues on all my OLED screens I have in my home (two TVs, three iPhones). Yes, in pitch black, at close range, at lower brightness - you will notice them. Just don't go looking for them.

The benefits of OLED outweigh the negatives. People expect perfection, but that technology doesn't exist. And don't say "for the price I payed, I expect it to be flawless" as you can easily find uniformity issues on $3000 TVs.

I fully agree with you… the same on the iphone (of course have to observe closer due to higher ppi) and never noticed until i found this discussion…

Mild schizophrenia? :)
maybe he means that to be an “issue” it should be observable during normal use… otherwise what’s the point to search for it? But i see that here we are looking into details and this attitude leads to confusion 😅

No, my first post should've said "I don't notice it while actually using it". Yes, when I remove my glasses, put it next to my face, go in total darkness and really put effort into it - I notice it. Same case with my OLED TVs.

Regular usage - working over the day, watching movies in dark at night, reading outside, reading inside, doing anything really - no, I don't notice it.

It's like saying "I don't notice individual pixels on iPhones". Because I don't. But also I do - if I put them 2cm away from my face and strain my eyes. But ok, sorry for not being specific.

Unless some people have iPad screens with much worse uniformity, this really is a non-issue. It's just succeeding at inducing anxiety in people who are not used to this kind of drama.
