Not sure what you're seeing, but if there is subtle grain, that could make text seem a touch less crisp.
I think it may be the PWM, i am not seeing much grain. Idk, i am going to have to fire up the old tablet and see what i see. I would hate for that to happen, that i am not compatible with this truly good looking display

? PWM does not cause blurriness.

Yep, if I put my iPhone really close to the screen this is what I see. If you look closely there are secret messages flashing in the pixels 🤣

I went to the Apple Store and the staff member pointed out to me that it’s the same on all of their display models as well. So I just accept that my M4 iPad Pro may look a little grainy in some conditions. That being said Apple should try to work on a software fix to make things slightly sharper.

A photo from my device which exhibits no graininess (at least to me) to the naked eye. I know at least some of what is visible in the photo is a sort of shimmering that appears in the iPhone 15 screen that is just not there otherwise
That’s what mine looks like with my spigen paper touch…11”

Realistically, I doubt it really bothers many people, I think what bothers people is knowing their display has a defect… but if they are all like this, then I know that actually makes me feel better and happier with the iPad.. I guess it’s the OCD in me xD

I agree, however i do think people will notice that the text is soft around the edges and end up returning it for that never knowing it was actually screen grain.

But this this display is as close to perfect as I have ever seen and people in this thread are blowing things out of proportion by saying the image is „crap“ etc.
Maybe on a scale from 1-10 your display has a grain of 2 and other people have a grain of 6.

Perhaps you falsely say they are blowing it out of proportion because you falsely think they are complaining about a 2 but if you had their display you would feel different.

Best we can do is let this play out and hope in 6 months Apple has worked with manufacturers to resolve it. We already have reports of people who complained having exchanged for a second model that did not have a grain issue.

What’s the difference between a grainy picture vs. mine? What would look different?
Once you get very close (your picture is super macro) you can inevitably see the matrix structure of the display. It then becomes hard to assess how this looks to the naked eye. It would be better to increase the distance a little and include a greater area of grey.

The comparison image I posted a couple of pages back was taken from a PNG source and uploaded as a PNG. This hopefully avoids some of the artefact and smoothing issues which come from JPG compression.

i think the most telling thing from your image is not the grain / matrix, is the anti aliasing of the text to be more soft than the IPS

It’s the luck of the draw. Similar issues have happened with Samsung tablets and their oled screens. I had a S7+ that had a green tint on the grey color once the brightness was brought down. Could be the issue with the technology behind oled screens. I haven’t had this issue on my latest Samsung tablet.
Samsung's OLEDs don't use this tandem-stacked two panels that Apple is using. Wonder if that's what's causing the problem?

It is most likely OLED dithering. A technique OLED manufacturers use to deal with near black colors (grey). It is normal and some people may notice it more than others. My 13 inch ipad has it. But I only see it if lower my brightness to 30 percent. Go to a pitch dark room. Put a grey field test pattern and then put the display almost to my nose. So it is a a non issue. Most OLED TVs have this too. So don’t expect a recall. No display is perfect. But the OLEDS in these iPads are remarkable.
Crazy though that everyone acted like going from miniLED to OLED was nothing but benefits.

I noticed that when booting up, the white Apple logo exhibits the noisy dithering relatively visibly (for me — everyone sees differently).

I’m not seeing anything like that. I have iPad 13 Pro 1TB. Could it be the increased ram on some models?

It was impossible to get the same camera focus, aliasing is the same. (The ’Display zoom’ setting on both iPads is also set to ‘more space’).

This looks like blur screenshot, is that a photo taken with a phone? Is that low brightness?

And that would be something, if RAM increase had anything to do with grainy screens LOL.
