Still no fix for this?
No. Maybe Apple not intrested to fix it, because the problem exist only on older devices and small user group. I dont know if upcoming 10.12.1 will fixit or not.. No one confirmed it yet. I dont want to try beta. Maybe someone try and tell us?

This is my first imac, and i have ****** feeling about it. Maybe have to go back to PC, because most of time them "just works"

I'm running a 4K Retina iMac purchased new in 2015, and my Apple logo and progress bar flash red and green during boot, so it's not just only older devices.

Glad I'm not the only one experiencing such an issue, however.

Use the Feedback Assistance app built into the release copy of Sierra to report the issue to Apple. You don't have to be a developer to report this bug.

I loaded Mac OS Sierra, latest released version, on both my 2015 iMac 5K and my 2015 Retina MacBook. I get no graphical issues on the iMac, but, get the exact same display as kyleguibelondo on the 2015 Retina MacBook.

I reported the issue to Apple because I have the issue on my late 2015 retina iMac. I also experience burn-in/ghosting. So my display might just be failing.

Blah, still not fixed in todays update release.

Sorry to hear that! I have also installed the macOS Sierra 10.12.1 update earlier tonight on my 2015 rMBP and am still experiencing some graphical glitches on startup/reboot with my HDMI connected Acer external monitor. I'm thinking of getting in touch with Apple Support who will hopefully be able to help.

If the worst bug is some display corruption during boot that's good news. Hopefully the distnoted problem is resolved?

I don't think we are on the same page here :p

It's annoying either way - if it's the distnoted process issues (which I had to look up and haven't heard of(the issue)) or the display on the computer which has a built-in display. Can you imagine that ? How would the iMac even work if you can't see what's happening on the display? Perhaps that last one is very far out there - but I could totally see my display failing with the other problems I have with it at the moment, such as ghosting visible through the login screen.

On the display eff'ing up upon restart: I haven't had one incident yet since installing 10.12.1 yesterday evening. I've restarted a couple times since.

Just adding to the thread to include some more troubleshooting I have tried in regards to this issue. I am still having graphical glitches on startup/restarting my 2015 rMBP running macOS Sierra 10.12.1 connected via HDMI to HDMI to an external Acer 1080p monitor.

The issue is the Apple logo and progress bar on startup/restarting is momentarily being shrunk and shifted to the top left of the screen both on the laptop itself and the external monitor. Everything is fine from the login screen onwards since 10.12.1. This issue does not happen when using the rMBP without an external monitor.

I have tried both PRAM and SMC resets which unfortunately did not help with the issue. I have also booted into recovery and ran first aid on my internal SSD. I have also tried different HDMI cables and using a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter from the rMBP into different ports on the external monitor.

I'm not really sure what else to try, I have never had this problem with the exact same hardware setup running on OS X El Capitan 10.11. I read that 10.12.2 is on the way and has begun beta testing, I hope that will include a fix.

Has anyone had any luck?

This is one example of my iMac rebooting with lovely colors included. Looks like a defragmenting program.

I'm sending this off to Apple too.

I've seen this issue all over the net since the release of Sierra. It's certainly not a hardware issue. My iMac runs flawlessly other than this odd reboot graphical glitch. So strange. Usually Apple is working quite ahead of time on bugs and what not. If a fix is coming, I'd expect it around Dec/Jan, hopefully.

I recently installed the macOS Sierra 10.12.2 Public Beta 6 in the hope that it would resolve this issue. Sadly, the issue is still present and I have also discovered that when booting into internet recovery the startup screen becomes green in this case. I plan on waiting for the official 10.12.2 update and if that does not resolve the issue I will contact AppleCare again to have my Mac Pro assessed and repaired if necessary.

Some may say that this is a minor issue in the bigger scale of things but it could be a sign of a failing hardware component. Hopefully the official release will be out soon and fix this issue.

Yeah...who knows. I've seen this issue all over the place so I'm willing to bet a non-hardware. I've called Applecare a few times and they always know the problem and insist software fix is coming soon. Like you said, hopefully soon.

Did anyone have any luck with the macOS Sierra 10.12.2 update? I installed it earlier and am still experiencing the same startup issues.

BTW, the graphic glitch disappears when booting in safe mode, but its back after booting in normal mode. So this is definitely software related problem.

when I connect and external monitor and booting the glitch disappears on external monitor as well.

Don't worry! I believe it is not a hardware problem.

I try the followings, but none of them works:
- SMC reset
- Pram reset
- Install Sierra from USB stick
- Install Sierra from internet (Cmd+R)

The only solution that works for me:
- Install the El Capitan from USB, then upgrade to Sierra!

Hope this works for you too.

Good luck...

I've tried installing El Capitan both from USB and Internet Recovery and no issues present on El Capitan while once I upgraded to Sierra the issues shows right away on reboot and also during boot.

Just to announce that I with the recent developer version of macOS Sierra of 10.12.4 (both release 5 and 6) my glitches are gone; those that appear on reboot and also during boot.

I took the jump and activated my dormant developer account and proceeded to either get really mad or extremely happy.
Luckily for Apple and the people around me and also on the Internet I went on to become extremely happy. Also knowing that my graphics card is doing fine.

Yay!

Crosses fingers for all you in this thread.
