You know, you aren't the first person to mention GrapheneOS. I don't know much about it, but I'm half tempted to try it out.

Well, it is designed for privacy in mind. Doing so, it will void your warranty, so I suggest to buy used Pixel, such as Pixel 4A 5G for dirt cheap (for trying it out).

Secondly, since it has no Google services, you will find lots of apps that don’t work. Lots of apps, especially banking apps requires Google Play frameworks to work, so your mileage will vary.

You can install minimum required for apps to function, but I don’t know how much privacy will be comprised, if at all.

Yea, I'd be okay with that for something on the side. The warranty situation wouldn't really bother me all that much.

I probably would install Google Play frameworks (if that's possible) just to use certain apps, but I'm sure the privacy situation would be much better than stock android. I would, at the very least, be able to monitor what goes in and out much better.

FWIW, Graphene now makes it possible to create profiles with Play Framework sandboxing for apps that require it.

Sadly the way of the world. Superficially open to both sides of the debate yet functionally shuttering what they dont care to hear...

Q-6
I suspect growing up with(in) the internet is partly to blame. People can surround themselves with social bubbles (green or otherwise!) and develop a difficulty in understanding how others, and their lives, could be different to them.

Or how my late father would say "just being plain childish. If you loose or dont have the ability to see another's perspective, you very much disadvantage yourself and can come across is being little more than foolish...

why just so Google can cancel it again it will be so funny when they get bored of it and pulls the service.
Yes, I'm aware that Google loves to cancel literally everything, but RCS wasn't started by Google. They're just trying to push it as a standard.

and all the servers everyone are using are literally run by google, we know this because the carriers don't want anything to do with it, they said as much.

Half the internet is either run on Google or Amazon servers.

yeah but google message apps are known for being killed when they get bored of them
Yes, I know.

IMO the best and most secure phone these days is an old Pixel 4 or 5 with GrapheneOS, just.....PERFECTION👌...and my perfect phone that i will get.

The color of the bubbles has never bothered me. I wish iOS let us change the color of the bubbles like android does. I’m on an iPhone 13 right now but have used Android in the past and it was great to change the bubbles to red, different shades of blue and green, or any color really (maroon or tan bubbles always looked good IMO).
One of MANY options iOS does not offer.

That's reminds me to install custom rom on my Pixel 4 and 4XL that I have. Currently is in official Google ROM which has not received any update since last October.

Pixel 4 and 4XL is mainly used occasionally and used for taking video since it uploads to Google Photos with space saver without occupying storage on Google accounts. All my pervious Pixel (Pixel 2, Pixel 3 and 3XL, Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL are all in LineageOS).

Cool.
Why do you use Google Photos? Such spyware...

Don't care much. Google Photo offers cross platform, some editing features that are unique, such as magic eraser, face unblur etc. For me, I use Google photo on both Android devices and iPhone. Plus Google photo is the default photo viewer on Pixel phone anyway.

I would not unlock bootloader and install custom ROM if it is officially supported by Google. I only do custom ROM on devices that no longer receive security update from Google.

I essentially get unlimited original quality upload via Pixel 1 that I brought off from eBay.

I was in the UK for 6 months, almost all the people I saw on their mobile devices on public transport were using iPhones. Quite surprised.
True that iPhones in the UK are popular...but most folks will have a whatsapp account and use it as their primary messaging app.
This ^ It's very odd some of it honestly. It's a brain wash of sorts.
It's very much an "American thing".

Fine. you do you.
