Gents,

I know this has been answered in a couple of posts (including the initial wikipost at Frequently Asked Questions About NVIDIA PC (non-EFI) Graphics Cards, most succinctly in point #28).
I am happy to go with an AMD card but my end goals with my cMP 5,1 is to be able to run VR for BIM and GIS applications, as well as photogrammetry work. This latter workload requires CUDA; as such, I might be willing to deal with some firmware annoyances / kext work if the GTX 10-series cards can work.

So my question on this thread is sort of meta: is buying one of these GeForece 10-series cards worth it for the cMP 5,1?
I am running HS 10.13.6, BootROM MP51.0085.B00.

I also purchased a 1070ti and am very happy with it running in Sierra and High Sierra but as Drumcode said - still no Mojave drivers. The prices have come down a lot so the RX580 is now between $200 and $250, the RX590 is out and the 1080 is under $400 so it’s a great time to get a card. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Also, I don’t know if you have seen this performance benchmarks page but it’s a great resource:

https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html

I would say it definitely is if you are happy to stick with high Sierra as it basically just works, but last time I checked there are still no official drivers if you plan to use Mojave.

Hello @NerdLocRasta1 and @Drumcode , i'm french and i want install my new GTX 1070Ti on my Mac Pro 4.1.

I'm newbie with this forum and for my upgrade i think i'll need some help.
At this time, i'm running on El Capitan and with Mac Pro 4.1 (not flashed), and my 1070Ti is not recognized. I plan to flash to 5.1 and install Sierra this weekend!

I see that you have successfully installed your 1070Ti and I would like to have your experience feedback with this graphics card. Is it very powerful, did you have a big difference with your Mac Pro? And if you could post a screenshot showing that it is well recognized by the system it would motivate me and reassure me!

Also, i absolutely need NVIDIA with CUDA support.

Thanks a lot

Im not by my computer now (on the train actually) but what I can tell you is that I have it running very well on High Sierra (on HFS+ no less). However because of the issues getting drivers for Mojave, I would recommend you look at the Radeon 580, 590 or higher. Those are supported in Mojave and I’m sure will be supported in 10.15. The radeons do require more power and can run hotter but they are supported. I’ll try and remember to post a screenshot when I get a chance. Good luck.

Thanks a lot @emulitu for these informations , but i don't want install High Sierra or Mojave, for some reasons i just want install Sierra (10.12)!

And i already have a GTX 1070Ti almost new and I spent a lot of money for this GC, so i want to be sure i can use this GC. ;-)

Also, i absolutely need CUDA. NVIDIA 4 LIFE

Thanks

Thanks a lot!

The GC isn’t recognized as “NVIDIA GTX 1070Ti 8191MB”?

Why?

Not sure. I can tell you that I'm powering a 30" Apple Cinema Display so I know it is working.

Here is the same machine running under High Sierra.

Hope that helps. Good luck.

Next up for me, more ram and an NVME pci-e add-on card.

Ok, thanks a lot @emlitu for your screenshots and thanks @Alex Sanders74 for these clarifications!

I think i'll try to run with Sierra and if it work fine i'll wait to upgrade my hardware setup and perhaps after these upgrades (RAM 1333MHz, NVME PCI-e Card, Wifi/BT Card) i'll try High Sierra.

@emlitu just one last question ;-)

How does your Mac Pro work under High Sierra?
Do you see for slowdowns due to the system improvements and other UI improvements?

@emulitu could you make me a favor please and make a benchmark of your 1070ti on High Sierra please?

Here is my Benchmark :

Oo sorry, I’m newbies!

Is there a solution (software) to make a benchmark for a graphic card?

Hi, my name is Son. and I think I need your help.
I got same problem when I tried to install my PNY GTX 1070Ti on my MacPro 5.1, 10.13.1.
I used my Gt120 as my default VGA.
1. I installed CUDA driver
2. I installed Nvidia web driver ( matched with 10.13.1), SIP and Gatekeeper were enable. it asked me for the permission when I was installing CUDA and NVIDIA web driver.
3. turned off Mac Pro.
4. plugged GTX1070 in.
5. turned it on....
6. it always chooses web driver not Mac OS driver.
PCI said YES on the driver installed column, but it has still not recognize dat 1070, just a common Nvidia card, and I can not use it. My cinema 30" is always black when I plug it to dvi port. mac pro is still running fine, because I can plug it out and change to GT120's dvi port, the screen is on again...
Can you share your extension folder so I can see what different from mine?
Many thanks.
PS: I can use the gtx1070ti in my eGPU, it works well :D

Hi @son, what’s your build version (just click on 10.13.1 text) and what’s the build version of nVidia web driver? (put screenshot please)

I did not success with 10.12.6, back to 10.13.6, here my build and driver, extension folder, and has not worked yet... :((((
any idea please?

Very strange, I’ve the same build version (17G65) and the same web driver version and all work fine!

I don’t understand where the problem and why your GC not work.

Do you’ve tried with DisplayPort, hdmi output ?

Perhaps, try a re-install of web driver and CUDA driver !
