Apple removes 11" iPad Pro. Replaced by 12.9" & 16"

Take with a grain of salt.

With the Air getting a 12.9" screen, an 11" iPad Pro no longer makes sense. Especially if Apple packs the M3 inside.

The lack of 8GB of RAM on the 16" is not a typo. iPadOS is worlds different than MacOS. if AI is the central focus going forward, RAM, CPU and GPU are key to success.

🤣 I’ll buy you a maxed spec 16in variant if it is announced on Tuesday.

We've seen multiple rumors and possibly leaks late 2023 of a larger iPad Pro. some saying 14", some saying 16". This is why i added 16" to the table above. Apple is promoting this event across the board more than any other event.

Even if M4 or 16" is not on the table. We've seen indicators of

A. From the ground up redesign Magic Keyboard
B. "Special iPadOS" software branch that Apple need to work on.
C. 4TB rumors to come
D. Middle camera.

I do believe that this event is the official culmination of every iPad Pro leak since 2020 finally all coming together. Making it the biggest evolution forward.

[if i'm i'm wrong, i'll admit it].

Slightly off topic, but my latest pricing comparison for the new Pros - I can get the 13in M3 MBA with 16GB RAM/512GB SSD for £1350 at Costco (£150 off list). The 8/256GB version is just £999. This may make the new 12.9in iPad Pro hard to stomach. I really hope Apple tease some nice software features.

I predict mine will cost around $2200-2500. Getting an 11" OLED 16GB/1TB cellular with a new keyboard and pencil.

16" iPad Pro?!?!. Holy Moley!!! I'd have to kick my spouse of the couch to have space enough to use it. :pI don't even have a laptop bag that could handle that large of iPad Pro.

I'd settle for a 14".;)

these rumors have unfortunately totally disappeared and as much as I would like a larger iPad more than anything else, it won't be this year

So, I’m guessing you are holding onto your M1 iPad.. not upgrading? But I know you tend to add to your collection…

Yep the temptation will certainly be there, but I don't think I'll add to my already large collection (which goes way beyond iPads). Maybe the pencil if it's backward compatible and has interesting features (I have 4 pencil 2 and 2 pencil 2 plus a couple of clones).
My dream is something the size (and weight) of my Surface Book 15" but with the battery life of an iPad (not 1.5 hours). The day they make something like that, I'll spend north of $3000 to have enough RAM and storage (it will probably start at $2000 anyway).

I always liked the Surface Book… but never felt the urge to buy one. And yeah, the battery life on that was its downfall… kinda wished Microsoft stayed on that path and not pivoted to a whole new design with the Surface Studio Laptop.

And I’m guessing you are not a fan of the Surface Studio Laptop?

So help me sort this out for next week’s iPad Pro announcement/release. What guesstimate on a 13” iPad Pro with 16GB memory, 1TB of SSD, cellular capability, and the new Magic Keyboard? I’m just trying to bulk up my bank account and be ready if I jump on it right away.

That config is currently £2,608 in the UK so £3K might just about do it, perhaps £3,250 to be safe.

In the US currently $2,348 so $3K should be more than enough.

Air models
I think they will maintain a $200 difference.

iPad Air 11: $699 (up $100) (128 GB base model)
iPad Air 12.9: $899

Pro models
iPad Pro 11: $999 (up $200)
iPad Pro 12.9: $1299 (up $200)

Honestly, though, I can also see them doing $1399 or even $1499 for the 12.9 Pro.

I do think they want to hit $999 or below for the 11" iPad Pro in order to maintain the up sell-strategy that they have implemented for years now: 'for only $50/$100/$150 more, you can get the bigger/better variant'.

I will say I’m not looking forward to the prices on the Pros. The best OLED displays in a tablet ever, a new chassis, and possibly M4 definitely signals a price increase.

My problem is that I’m really excited for the new iPads, but iPads always usually end up being at least $100 off within a couple months of release. Not sure if I want to wait that long to get them though. But it feels stupid not to wait.

I'm at least waiting for WWDC. See what Apple have in store. Apple products, and particularly iPads, are never discounted here in Europe as they are in the U.S. for some reason. So there is no benefit to waiting here.

Basically add 200-300 to the current price

The major difference would be for the 11 inch which would go from LCD to OLED

And they’ll remove 128, so base would be 256

Assuming you’re buying 12.9 in 256 or above, just add 200ish to the current model

For the Pros, there will only be a difference of $200 between 11 and 13

It is unlikely 11 would cost less than 1200, min is 1100, max is 1300

Add 200 for 13”

Add 200 for cellular

Base would be 256

Add 200 for 512

I could see them growing the two current display sizes a smidge, like to something like 11.1 and 13.3. If a 16" iPad Pro were to be announced on Tuesday, it'd be a remarkable feat of secret-keeping by Apple since it isn't rumored at all, there's been no discussion of OLED orders at that size, etc etc.

Why is it unlikely? And what would the Air’s price be?

And why would the difference be $200, while the current difference already is $300?

Difference is because screens will get parity in tech
So difference will go down
