I think a tree based naming system would be cool for OS 11 :)

OS 11.0 Oak
OS 11.1 Willow
OS 11.2 Sycamore
OS 11.3 Elm
OS 11.4 Birch
etc...

(actually, reading that back it's reminding me of Pokemon a bit...)

Or maybe the default Lion desktop (Andromeda Galaxy) is a clue, maybe they'll name OS 11 after astronomical objects?

OS 11.0 Nebula
OS 11.1 Supernova
OS 11.2 Comet
OS 11.3 Black Hole
OS 11.4 Supergiant

(I studied Astrophysics for a time, so I appreciate those object don't really show any logic order...)

I'm quite looking forward to what it'll be though!

Unlikely, but I'd be amused if the last version of OS X was called griffin and then versions after that were codenamed after birds.

Nothing is more evolved than anything else, seeing as evolution is not a race and has no endpoint.

That being said, I think OS X Lynx is probably the way to go.

you are scientifically correct, but the cat is on its own, the cat is evolved, other form of life are evolving... ;-)

Well +1 to the few who guessed Mountain Lion :)
And -1 to the person who said it would never be called that

Mountain Lion. It will be the final step in making Lion more cloud based and iOS-like. After that, iOS and Mac OS will be released at then same time with the same name.

Just my guess.

Good guess!

----------

Mountain lion is not some kind of bad azz lion it's a cougar, also know as a puma. It's a third to half the size of a lion; 110 to 220 lbs vs 330 to 500lbs.

Oh, and they sound like babies screaming when they "howl."

There will never be an OS X Mountain Lion or Cougar.

lol

Well, the next letter is "N", but I think we can be pretty sure that OSX 10.9 will *not* be named:

Nittany Lion

Interesting regarding the tree naming convention.

I also like to see names of celestial objects. Maybe not generic things, but more specific names:

Orion
Andromeda
Sagittarius
Pisces

Well you get the idea.

Adrift in a sea of possibilities
In the idea that the next release of OS X and iOS will finally merge, let's name it after the smallest wild cat out there:

OS X 10.9 Ocelot

Well if the next allegedly fullblown Mac OS is going to be any more like iOS than Lion is, then I'd vote for "polecat" (skunk).

Don't get me wrong, iOS is really great for iPod touch, iPhone, iPad. Doesn't belong on laptops yet.

Even if it does save Apple a lot of money in Customer Service every year, which it probably does, it stinks to have to hold down the option key to get to the damn Library, for instance. Why don't they add a few more templates to account setup options instead of this bs.
