Check out this tutorial. Or come back in 24 hours and I'll have updated this thread with instructions.

That guide is for Snow Leopard.

Not that I know of I'm afraid. Both the Applications folder and the dock access the same file for the image. You could try changing the background colour of the Applications folder to one that better compliments the text icons.

Thanks but it doesn't work for me even though I have Snow Leopard. I don't have the files on my computer that it says in the first couple steps.

Nah you definitely will mate if you're running Snow Leopard.

You're definitely going to:

Hard Drive/System/Library/Frameworks/Carbon.Framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/HLToolbox.Framework/Versions/A/Resources

Make sure you're not going to your User library instead of the System one.

That's, quite frankly, impossible. If you have Snow Leopard, you have Carbon.framework.

Take a screenshot of your /System/Library/Frameworks/ folder for us, just to be sure.

question

Great tutorial,

So I got most of the icons replaced. I was wondering to get the ones that are not included (google chrome, etc...), after I open the .psd and change the text, what am I suppose to save the icon I created as? Also, how do you change the finder and trash empty and trash full icons? Thanks guys!

If you're looking for an easier way to get the black menu bar you might want to check out this thread: http://macthemes.net/forum/viewtopic.php?id=16804368
It has an installer and uninstaller if you don't like to go digging that deep into your system files.

Nice find, thanks!

Save the new icon as a .png or something, and use this site to convert it to an icon. Easier than using a separate application.

Are you using CandyBar? If so, under the Change menu on the left click the button on the far left. About half way down are the Finder and Trash icons you can change.

If you're not using CandyBar you can use LiteIcon. It's free, and lets you change all icons other than Application Icons (but also lets you change Finder and Trash).

I'm sorry I haven't uploaded a tutorial for the Black Menu Bar...it takes a couple of hours to make a good one, and I just haven't had the time lately.

Thanks Ethical, I will give it a try tonight. I am not using Candybar, so I will try out the LiteIcon.
Thanks!

Has anybody been able to remove the date showing on the iCal icon? I've been able to replace the icon itself with the Gill text, but the month and day are still showing up on the text. Is it possible to do such a thing?

Sorry for the double post. I just thought I'd take a screenshot of my dock to demonstrate what I mean't by my previous post.

Hmm, yeh I've been looking into this since your last post. Haven't found a solution yet.

The date on the iCal icon is managed by Dock.app (which is why the iCal icon in the Applications folder doesn't have the correct date on it). So it's some command within that that you would need to change.

You can have a look around, but I'd make a copy of Dock.app first. Messing it up could require a fresh install.

Having problems getting this script to work in Geektool.

Code:
top -ocpu -FR -l2 -n20 | grep '^....[1234567890] ' | grep -v ' 0.0% ..:' | cut -c 1-24,33-42,64-77

Bit more info might be useful....Where did you get the script? What is it supposed to do?

I've created the shell and insert the script, but all it does is show nothing.

The -FR options are messing up that code from what I can see, try removing them.

Code:
top -ocpu -l2 -n20 | grep '^....[1234567890] ' | grep -v ' 0.0% ..:' | cut -c 1-24,33-42,64-77

I saw a desktop with a different icon for the HD and it listed the MB used and available. How to do this?

Well the way I change all my icons is by using img2icns (http://www.img2icnsapp.com/) or by finding icons already made on the web:

1. Get an icon: Drag a pic into img2icns or use a pre-made one.

2. Right click on the app/disk/folder/whatever you want to change the icon for.

3. Click on the icon in the info window.

4. Copy and paste the new icon over the old one. For some reason you can't right click to c and p, so just use keyboard shortcuts or the edit tab.

P.S. If you can't copy and paste over the old icon, you either need to change the permissions, or it isn't a writeable file.

When you installed Mirage, you may have selected to remove the active application icons. I can't remember the exact name for this, but try uninstalling Mirage, and then installing it again but making sure under the 'Customize' menu that you haven't ticked the active application box. You only want the dock to disappear.
