I probably found a solution on how to download Mavericks (Mountain Lion) on an unsupported Mac the easy way. Just download the zip file, apply it, reboot and go ahead downloading.
This should work but is not confirmed yet! Please feedback.
WORKS. One user noted, that it doesn't, but I could finally test it myself and found it working. Remember that you still need a system version (10.6.8, 10.7.5, 10.8.5 I think), which is actually certified for making the Mavericks upgrade.
Are there Caveats for this script? Tried 2 times, but the app-store keeps telling me it`s an unsupported machine (macro 1.1 - 2.1, OsX 10.75)
thanks a lot!
Okay. I have not rechecked whether my original guide still works for me. Apple may have blocked it, although I can't believe Apple even took notice and blocked the faked ID used to fool the AppStore.
However here you are! I've just created an alternative way for downloading Mavericks. I could not test it yet, but I expect it to be working. Please report back.

Only download if you have a 1,1 / 2,1 Mac Pro or an Intel Xserve. It may work on other machines, too, but it's NOT SUPPORTED.
can I do this with a 7300 GT graphics card or do I have to upgrade?
I am running 2006 mac pro 1.1
2 X 2.0 ghz dual core intel Xeon
currently 10.7.5
Apple seems to have patched this since quiet some time but I have released a new version which works entirely different. Unfortunately I currently do not find it - It's named MDE.zip...
EDIT: I found it!
I have a older macbook pro, Like 2007 Macbook Pro 4.1 right now still running 10.6, 10.6 Seems to be outdated can't upgrade Audio Production Software I'm using thinking of turning to the Darkside and Upgrading my OS.. If I do Take the Gamble any tips?
Should I try?
Upside?
Downside?
Is my Macbook Compatible?
Better yet experiences from a similar laptop maybe?
I hear some bad stories and people unhappy, Is it worth the gamble?
I installed 10.9.2 on a Macbook Pro 2,2 (2.16 GHz Core 2 Duo, 4 GB RAM, ATI Radeon x1600) using SFOTT 1.4.4. I did a clean install on a blank hard drive. Everything worked well (SFOTT is great, by the way), except for a couple of items:
- Most applications work fine, except for a few from Apple (like Safari flickers, but Firefox works fine)
- videos will not play, not on youtube, or even a quicktime file
- It does not detect the audio output device
- Odd observation - youtube will run in Google Chrome. Still no audio, and standalone videos (not in webage) still wont work
I assume this is due to mavericks not having the appropriate drivers for these devices. Is it possible to get drivers that will work for this? How would I find what would be the appropriate kext files to add to this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
GMA950 graphics are not and never will be supported. Don't bother. Use the forum search facility...
Actually according to MLforAll's twitter page, he is working on making that a reality. He has ML running in 64 bit on a GMA950 with QE/CI working using the 10.6.2 drivers, and he is working on making it compatible with Mavericks. A 64-bit driver for ALL GMA. It's coming...finally!
"[GMA64] I finally did it ! GMA 950 with ML 64 bit ! But, its a proof of concept.
Im working hard on it to finish it Image"
Until this works, it does not, so I can only advise not to raise false hopes for people again...
Just a dude who wishes non-believers would come to admit that old incompatible hardware is what it is: old and incompatible. Full stop.
Really So many people told you to stop spreading false information about GMA compatibility. You should have realized that they don't want you to do so anymore.
I totally agree with you, that old, incompatible hardware basically is old and incompatible, BUT that does not mean, that it can't be enabled.
It's old. - Nothing to say about that.
It's incompatible. - Well. Isn't it Apple who want us to believe, that it is, rather than that it actually is?
And what a world it would be if people couldn't believe the impossible. Would we've entered the moon yet? Would Afro-Americans live in freedom? I don't think so. Thanks god, that so many of us did not forget how to believe!
