Some people will never understand the hacker spirit.

I find that statement ironic, considering his signature has the following:

...on that note and while I will refrain from elaborating in great detail as this is not the proper forum upon which to do so, I would like to "throw my proverbial hat in the ring" and mention that I have recently turned my focus hacking wise on a Dell Latitude E6400 and with a little fortitude and perseverance, I now have a fantastic "MacBook Pro" running OS X 10.9.2 Mavericks to perfection.

If your an Intel GMA 950/X3100 or ATI X1600 Mac owner whose time has run out and your looking to move on, might I recommend a E6400 as an extremely viable alternative.

I'm curious to how you got 10.9.2 on the E6400. The OSXLatitude crew only has 10.7 running on it. Well, they only offer a 10.7 bootpack for it, anyway.

It wasn't void of any hurdles or complications but what hack is. And I was remiss with my initial assertion of "perfection": never shall an OS X system work with Intel Wi-Fi (in this case Intel Wi-Fi Link 5100) but nothing that a few dollars and change "thumbnail" USB Wireless Adapter and it's compatible Ralink 10.9 Mavericks driver couldn't resolve. The biggest road block I faced was my own stubbornness in facing the fact that my E6400 just would not boot from an adjacent though separate FAT32 converted "EFI" partition and that the boot loader and Mavericks needed to reside simultaneously on the same partition. Once I came to terms with that reality and adjusted my blue print accordingly, the rest was fairly straightforward.

Thats awesome. I'm glad you have a working "hack". I'm using an early 2011 MacBook Pro with an Intel 3000, as well as a Dell 15 3520 that also has an Intel 3000 and both are relatively similar. The Dell actually out performs the MacBook Pro. (Seriously, Macintosh should look into Dell's hardware providers as serious competitors/providers!)
You can find me on OSXLatitude under the same username. I even have a working guide up for those that have similar models. I've been a long time supporter of that website because they've been awesome and supportive in using OS X on non-supported Mac Dell machines.

Keep "Hackintoshing"! It's like Linux, but much better!

LOL don't make me laugh. I'll like to know how making a hackingtosh these day and age is a great achievement. oh lulz.

Nobody said it was a great achievement. However, you did say he didn't understand the "hacker spirit" and "hackintoshing" definitely fulfills the hacker spirit. No need to get upset about it.

Lets get the thread back on topic. No need to clutter up a thread with useless bickering.

Tobyg's EFI updater script works great with the 10.9.3 beta Appleseed program. Installed via the AppStore as usual without any problems. It was as if the Mac Pro 1,1 was a fully supported Mavericks machine.

Graphics card issues with security update 2014 002 on legacy Mac Pro (2006 1.2)

Hi everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone else was having problems with the security update (2014-002) for Mavericks on unsupported Mac Pro models? I'm running Mavericks 10.9.2 on a 2006 Mac Pro 1.2 with the following spec:

- 2x3GHZ quad xeons
- 16GB RAM
- ATI HD 5770 graphics card (PC version which has been flashed for Mac use)

The OS was installed using the SFOTT script, which makes use of Tiamo's awesome work on the boot.efi etc.

Everything has been great with the system until last night when I installed the security update - I'd held fire on this until I'd read a few reports to see if it would work ok on legacy systems. I saw a few posts from the hackintosh community that suggested all would be ok so I ran a backup and took the plunge. Everything went ok except now my graphics card is not recognised by the system (not showing up in a system report or the Expansion Slot Utility). I've reinstalled the backup that I made but the graphics card still isn't working. I suspect the update may somehow have messed with the graphics card firmware, but I'm not even sure that's possible (not really my area of expertise!) I'm currently having to run with the horrible and slow NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT that came factory installed.

I was wondering if anyone else was having similar graphics card issues with flashed cards and if so if anyone has a suggested work around - I bought the card ready flashed, so I'm not really sure how you'd go about trying to fix this (although I've been reading up a bit on other forums) - any suggestions?

Many thanks for your help
Luke

I just had my 6th back surgery & will be lying here for quite a while, so I read this thread and another 151-pager about MLPF to try to determine what is the max OS that I can cram into my Late-2006 2.16 GHz Core2Duo 20" iMac 5,1 with 2GB of RAM, an ATY,RadeonX1600 with 128 MB of VRAM, running OS 10.7.5 from its 250 GB 7200 RPM drive. All that reading plus the meds have only confused me, though normally I'm a power user of sorts, so I could use the advice of experts like you good folks.

I still have OS 10.8.3 that I bought for a MacBook Pro that I had to sell after my accident, but if Mountain Lion is the newest my iMac can handle, don't I need to use MLPF? What is SFOTT? Is MLForAll available yet? Would ML run any better than Lion does (kinda slow)? Would everything work? Can Mavericks be installed, and would it be glacial? I have a lot of time on my hands and really need to move beyond Lion, which I despise.

THANKS for your advice.

[...] don't I need to use MLPF?

From www.everymac.com about the maximum MacOS for the iMac 5,1: "This system can run the last version of OS X 10.7 Lion if upgraded to at least 2 GB of RAM. Although it has a 64-bit processor, it has a 32-bit EFI and is not capable of booting into 64-bit mode. It does not support OpenCL either. Please also note that OS X Lion is not capable of running Mac OS X apps originally written for the PowerPC processor as it does not support the Rosetta environment. This model cannot run versions of OS X newer than 10.7.5 Lion."

You can install 10.8 Mountain Lion either with MLPF or manually (Post #3654 and on). For 10.9 Mavericks there's a Guide in Post #914, use the Guide.txt in the linked "Mac-Pro-Xserve.7z" for the installation. If it's sometime finished, you can install Mavericks also with MacPostFactor. A alternative might be Parallels Desktop 9, see the Parallels Knowledgebase, Article-ID: 118806.

Would everything work?

Since your iMac 5,1 has a unsupported graphics chipset, see also Post #1108 (quite the same for ATI X1600).

What is SFOTT?

The App-Script 'SFOTT' (Sixty Four On Thirty Two) prepares a USB or disc install medium for unsupported 32bit based Macs that are not eligible for Mavericks or Mountain Lion. See the SFOTT webpage.

MBP 2.33 for Mavericks

Hi, guys
I have an old Macbook Pro 15" (late 2006, I think) which I just upgraded to Snow Leopard (10.6.8).

My Model:
Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro2,2
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.33 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 4 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Bus Speed: 667 MHz
Boot ROM Version: MBP22.00A5.B07
SMC Version (system): 1.12f5

ATI Radeon X1600

Is Mavericks a feasible option for this machine or should I go for Mountain Lion? I'd rather not have trouble with video playback, wifi ect.

I know I would have to follow the instructions in this thread for ML: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1325709/. Those instructions seem much easier than the SFOTT route...

I have a MacBook Pro 2,1 (Late 2006 17") When MacPostFactor comes out, would I be able to get mavericks? Right now it has lion on it.

Just curious i upgrade my macmini 2,1 to mavericks with wifi and audio and stuff just wondering how to update the mavericks because last time it made me reinstall it?@:D

How you install mavericks?

Actually according to MLforAll's twitter page, he is working on making that a reality. He has ML running in 64 bit on a GMA950 with QE/CI working using the 10.6.2 drivers, and he is working on making it compatible with Mavericks. A 64-bit driver for ALL GMA. It's coming...finally!

"[GMA64] I finally did it ! GMA 950 with ML 64 bit ! But, it’s a proof of concept.
I’m working hard on it to finish it Image"

Can you help me to install Mavericks on my late 2006 Macbook black? I will send you bugs for fixing them... Sorry for my bad english.
