The 10.9.3 combo updater replaces the boot.efi again. Can anyone verify if this is also true for the App Store update method?

Silly me, forgot to check the other thread.

What other thread? :confused:

...So can we assume the 10.9.3 update can be installed with Tiamo's Mac Pro Fix?

opened up the OS X 10.9.3 Update package with Pacifist prior to installing and noted that the "boot.efi" file was not even dealt with this time around.

Can you give detailed install info ?

Everything on my Mac Mini 2,1 is working ! graphics aren't as bad as people made it sound, wifi and audio working yay:D:apple:

@AppleRus :

I have a Mac mini 1,83GHz (Macmini2,1) with 2GB of RAM, and an upgraded Atheros 9280 AirPort-card (WiFi-N compatible), currently running OSX 10.8.4 which I installed using MLPostFactor.

Can please you give me details on how to install OSX 10.9 Mavericks ?

And can you give info on the performance of iPhoto on your Mac mini ?
For my Mac mini, iPhoto is the primary app to run, and even though OSX 10.8.4 is running great, iPhoto 9.4.3 is really slow...

Do you have any idea if you are actually accessing all 4GB of RAM you have installed ? I read that only 3GB can/will be used in practice.

Thanks !

this post from bolen had wifi and audio kexts just because and i used http://oemden.com/ (sfott) to help me install mavericks on to my mac ideally you would use a usb key for the sfott but i split my disk into two equal amounts, one with the sfott and one as my mac hd oh also i watched a video that might help you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eF05shc-e2E btw im up to 10.9.3 now!:):apple:

oh and my mac mini could only use unsecure wifi

I just did and all went fine :)

Oh my. I just found this thread. I am excited! I left the issue of Mountain Lion because it seemed so tricky. Since then, I see a lot has developed. I was so sad that my machine seemed to be at the end of the line. I use it heavily, and it's amazing how satisfactory the performance is on an eight year old computer. I think it was really a good investment I made. I bought it refurbished in 2008.

I'll try this in a week or two...

Thank you, folks!

@AppleRus :

Thanks for the tips !
For the WiFi, I need to install the kext files from OSX 10.6 even in 10.7 and 10.8
that is because I have the AR 9280 AirPort-card, but might help in your case too
more info can be found on http://www.macmanus.nl

Your solution is great.
I am a little hesitant to use it however, since I think that one of the main reasons iPhoto is so slow in MLPostFactor 10.8 is because of the 32-to-64-conversion that you also seem to be using for the 'shared memory graphics card'...

...I read that there are beta-drivers for use of the GMA graphics card in true 64bit mode, I am going to look into that first I think...

Huge thanks !

I have the AR9280 chip in my MBP (2011) and in my hackintosh and both work flawlessly in 10.9. I'm not sure why you need to install a kext for it to work. It works natively in all versions of OS X past 10.6.

@bobdamnit :

great to hear your Atheros AR9280 works flawlessly !

however... if you google the "WiFi no hardware installed" error, you'll see that the Atheros AR9280 is notorious for giving this error in MacOSX 10.7 "Lion", OSX 10.8 "Mountain Lion" and OSX 10.9 "Mavericks"...
...and even in OSX 10.9 the simplest solution seems to be to reinstall the kext files from MacOSX 10.6 "Snow Leopard"

if the AR9280 does work flawlessly on a MacBook Pro and not in a Mac mini, just a wild guess would be to assume it could have something to do with the Mac mini only having one WiFi-antenna inside, and not two like the MacBook... (the AR9280 has 2 antenna connectors on it...)

somehow... you got lucky ;-)
hopefully I'll get lucky too if I upgrade to Mavericks
(as getting this error in OSX 10.8 doesn't seem to imply that it'll remain after installing OSX 10.9 on the same Mac...)

That could be, only having one WiFi antenna. I never considered that, or even knew about it because I don't have a Mac desktop computer (yet) ;)

I will say that on my hackintosh, I've had both 10.8 and 10.9 on it and it has worked in both versions without any issues. However, it is a Dell Wireless 1515, which uses the AR9280 chipset, and not an actual Apple card.

But in my MacBook Pro (early 2011), it came with the AR9280. It came with 10.6.6 and it worked all the way through to 10.9.3.

Well, in any case... The important thing is that you can indeed make the card work!

hi cheers from panamá is go to be possible to see mavericks completely working on a macbook air 1.1 early 2008?

How Important is the Video Card

I have wanted to install Mavericks on my MacPro1,1 with a NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 256 MB and 6 GB RAM since Mavericks came out and about 3 programs that I use daily have put out updates that require Mavericks.

I saw in post #1326 that VAGDesign was able to install on his MacPro 1,1, but noticed that he had 16 GB RAM and an ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB video card.

Should I be able to install Mavericks to my MacPro 1,1 with its current RAM and video card?

Also could I possible brick my machine by updating the boot.efi which I think is the equivalent of a PC BIOS?:confused:

Hello Bruce, the boot.efi file is like in Windows world the "boot.ini", nothing to do with BIOS. So no worries, try it but always have a separate disk or partition with Lion installed.

Good luck!

Thank you VAGDesign

Thank you for that information. I will follow your advice about have a separate disk or partition with Lion installed.

Video Cards & location of Mavericks install program

I think that I have everything I need for the upgrade now.

What does it mean in practical terms when you stated I won't be able to enjoy graphics acceleration?

Also if I were to get a new graphics card what would be one of the lowest end/cheapest graphic cards I could purchase and install that would work well with Mavericks?

Another question I have is shouldn't I be able to locate the Mavericks install program on one of the other hard drives as I have all four bays filled? It won't fit on my 8 GB flash drive.

how to extract your guide ?

I tried switching guide to .zip
How do you extract guide as .7z is unknown file type
