No. But the next release (MacPostFactor.app) will work with 10.6. Else just use another Mac, as you don't need to create the boot drive on the device where you want it to install to.

Do not quite understand what you mean, I need another Mac computer? or another HD?

Its so nice to see the new MacPostfactor !
I hope it will be released soon.. :)
Cant wait..
When running Mavericks with MacPostfactor, is it running the kernel from ML DP1 ??
Or how did you get this working, modified the Mavericks kernel ??

But i have had som problems with my MacPro 1,1.
It has ATI 4870 Graphics Card's. two of them.. (original ones from Apple)
Lion and Snow leopard work great, but Mountain Lion installed with MLpostfactor makes the graphics run very buggy..
I think the patching of the graphicspart from MLpostfactor makes the kexts for my 4870's break..

It has no QE/CE, and it feels really buggy in OSX..

Do i need to modify the script not to patch the graphics part, or is this a known problem ??

Hope to hear from somebody..

Greetings,
Floris

Without graphics acceleration, Mountain Lion (like any recent Mac OS X version) will indeed run like crap.

In your case, the card needs to be supported in 32bit mode with Lion kexts (that's what MLPF does). If it is not, then maybe you ought to replace the card by a model natively supported in 64bit mode by ML. You could then run full vanilla ML with workarounds such as the Chameleon bootloader. It would obviously make little sense to replace your card by a model supported only in 32mode under SL or Lion for MLPF purposes.

Re: Mavericks, as far as I know, it's not possible to boot 10.9 with ML DP1 kernel. I'd be very interested to hear about the method they're pursuing to that effect. But that's not the place to discuss this.

thx for you message !
But the ATI 4870 card is supported in both 32 and 64 Bit !
As far as i know..

The card is officially only supported on Mac Pro 4,1 models and later..
But works in my MacPro 1,1
Since 3,1 model and later these mac pro's are EFI64 machines, as far as I know..

I do have flashed my 1,1 to a 2,1 model, with netkas firmware update tool..

But could it be that the ATI 4870 is not supported my Mountain Lion of Mavericks ?
I really doubt this also..

I would not recommend using ***PostFactor.app in your case. Nor would I advice using the chameleon method, as it will use the graphics cards BIOS ROM which to me seems do be a disadvantage (although it probably will work).
The best way for you, if you do not rely on fast boot time and do not care about iMessages and FaceTime (others iCloud Services should work) to me seems to be a native booting system (efi32). This is possible with some minor edits/replacements to installer files.
If your interested just pm me and I can send you some prehacked files.

Possibly you will have RAM limitations (only up to 4gb supported) but i don't have any further Knowledge about this rather than, that's related to efi32 (but aren't old MacPros capable of using more under Lion?!)
You could try or ask someone who actually knows it...

So... If this method isn't an option for you I still would recommend Clover rather them chameleon due to the fact that it works much more Mac like (and so is supposed to have less issues and more relyable), but this might be a point of personal preference.

Best,
Rastafabi

----------

Do not quite understand what you mean, I need another Mac computer? or another HD?

1. I would recommend using an 8(+) GB USB-Stick as an installation media, rather than partitioning the internal drive. (USB/FireWire Disk drive will work, too).
2. As the current Version of MLPF does not work with Snow Leopard you might just wait until it's next release or create the Installer on a Mac/Vitual maschine running 10.7(.3) or later.
-so you could update your machine to Lion beforehand OR
- use another maschine running Lion, Mountain Lion or Mavericks.

Best,
Rastafabi

hackerwayne, you posted a image twitter with system requeriments for Mac Post Factor, that say iMac early 2006 & mid 2007 will be supported.
iMac 6.1 (late 2006) with 7300gt will be supported?

Thanks

Yes, it will be supported at least on 10.8. 10.9 not too sure cuz no such system to test.

Hmmm seems to be a huge problem for me to get a copy of the original installer file from the App Store version 10.8.3 or earlier. The only legal copy I got was when I installed the 10.8.4 version.

Is there any chance for me to get this version to work with MLPostFactor?

EDIT:
Uhmm… Forget it, seems like it works with 10.8.4 afterall… Should have read the instructions correctly, shame on me… :)

Btw, you guys have done a terrific job with this software!
Cheers!

@T'hain Esh Kelch: Please post whether you succeeded with your MBP'06 and please state your exact model, MLPF & OS X version & build. Thx!

Sadly MLPF both with 10.8.4 and 10.8.5 has failed me with my MacBookPro 2,2, Late 2006, 15", 2.16Ghz, A1211, but possibly it was a corrupt "OS X Mountain Lion Installation.app" or a strange partition setup — See post #3357 — had no time yet to try alternative copy.

I'll be curious to know if you come up with a solution. I tried installing 10.8.4 on my MBP 2,2 and I am encountering the same issue as you had reported. Trying to boot from "Install" shows the not-allowed sign and then just continues booting from my Lion partition. I have "Install" on a USB and next I'll try installing it onto a hard drive partition.

Well, after a couple of attempts, I did finally get 10.8.4 installed on my MacBook Pro 2,2. Initially, I wasn't able to boot off my USB install drive, so I reformatted the USB and tried again. I'm not really sure why but I was able to boot off the USB this time. The installation onto my ML partition went smoothly and so far everything seems to be working very well. Thank you for this solution!

Your Welcome.
Apparently I can't PM you (while I can PM others). Have you disabled this feature somehow in your profile?
The guide is written, and the files are hacked. Only need to be send now.

Well, "ik net doen spreken nederlands" (or anything like that), but how about german?

EDIT
However: Here you are.

EDIT2
This should help, too: (Mountain Lion/Mavericks download enabler)

It should only enable you to download.
Do you get an error message when trying to purchase Mountain Lion/Mavericks?

If you get one, what does it say?

EDIT:
I could finally test it and it worked.
If it does not work for you, you may create a new (test) user account and try downloading from there again.

Cannot boot Mountain Lion after successful Install

Hi,

I was all enthusiastic after finding your forum; I downloaded the MLPF 0.3 and followed the instructions verbatim. The install succeeds and all that, but when it tries to boot to ML, it just keeps showing the white screen with Apple logo in the center, and the spinning circle. This goes on forever ..

I can boot to the Lion partition by using alt/option key.

The Macbook I have has the following spec:

2007 Macbook Pro
3 GB memory
ATI Radeon X1600 256 MB graphics card
250MB hard drive
running Mountain Lion 10.7.5

I also tried booting to Install partition and then repairing the permissions on the ML drive. It did repair a bunch of permissions and then after that when I verified permissions, it told me that there are no further issues.

Please help .. my understanding was that this is a supported system and I should have been able to run ML.

Thanks in advance for your help.

BTW, I have a legal copy of Mountain Lion downloaded from App store in my applications folder (which I transferred from a MAC that supports it).

One more thing, hackerwayne keeps referring to post#22 for modified instructions, but post#22 does not have any instructions.

I am a newbie so may be I am doing something wrong. Can someone post the link to the latest/updated set of instructions for MLPF? I am using #1 at the head of the thread.

Did you ran the MLPF.app after installing?
Before rebooting you should quit the installation application and run it from the utilities drop down menu.
If you have done this try and it's still not working but Mountain Lion and hit cmd-v while booting. You should see some white text on a black background.
Post here what it says.

Thanks Rastafabi for your reply. Yes I did run MLPF (selected the ML drive) after the ML installation completed. However, there is no way to quit the installer since after install, it goes into a countdown automatically for restart. So when it got stuck in the reboot process to ML, I manually booted to install partition and then ram MLPF again .. I hope it does not make a difference. Were you able to quit out of the ML installation process before bringing up MPLF from utilities menu?

I will post the messages soon for your review ..

Thanks so much ..

I don't remember how about quiting but it should work using cmd-Q. Anyway it makes no difference.

From saying, that you will post the message I assum that's still not working. Strange... Well, let's see what the verbose mode will print.

ok I have taken several snapshots, since I cannot cut and paste from the screen.

3 jpeg files have been attached; the last one is where it gets stuck.

Please let me know if you get some clues about what is the issue here.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Well, only the last image is interesting. As the last line is about journal replay it seems to be related to the hard drive.
Anyway at first you should try booting into safe mode - this is done by holding shift, until a grey progress bar appears (you should disconnect any external hardware). If you are able to boot the system this way launch disk-utility and repair the drive AND the partition your booting from (not just the permissions).
If you still can't boot your system boot from the installer again and apply the previous steps with the installers disk-utility.

Thanks Rastafabi for the suggestions .. I will try to implement those and see if I have any luck. I may have some follow up questions ..

With regards to the question by T'hain Esh Kelch, this is not supported. The Apple supported ones are from June 2007 onwards, and mine is early 2007. :roll eyes:

I did try without MLPF and it just says the OS cannot be installed in this computer.
