Hey new to this, but I got mountain lion retail, and downloaded MLPostFactor I did everything but used 10.8.4 instead of 10.8.4. it seems to go fine until after I until after it installed. It then stays on a grayish black screen. you can move the mouse around but the screen doesn't change. If you restart it a no smoking type sign comes up. I have a late 07 macbook running lion, 2 gigs of ram and Intel GMA X3100 graphics. any help would be greatly appreciate.

:D Well, if you used 10.8.4 instead of 10.8.4, how about using 10.8.4? And remember that OS X strictly is a non-smoking Operating System!

Ok, ok, I'm out...

Have you run MLPostFactor from the Utilities menu after the installation completed? It needs to patch the OS to work properly on older machines. The dark grey background seems to be normal. I just rebooted manually and it works pretty good.

Try resetting…
…NVRAM -> From Lion/Snow Leopard run "nvram -c" in Terminal.app
…PRAM -> while booting hit cmd+alt+P+R on a USB-keybaord and hold it until you've heard the second boot chime
…SMC -> unplug your Mac's power cord and hold the power button for at least 5 seconds

Now try again.
If it's still not working report back please.

Hi, i'm with 10.8.3 and i want to update to 10.8.5, just got the combo update but it gives me an error -- An error occurred while evaluating Javascript for the Package.

Any tip to perform the update? What steps should i follow?

Many thanks.

Ps: Macbook late 2007 (3.1)

Depending on your storage situation, you can partition a new install and migrate your data, then wipe the old partition and clone the new one back to the original partition..

the install partition stuck at "still waiting for root devices" what may be causing this?

This usually occurs if the drive is somehow damaged. This can be a hardware failure, but also could be a problem with the partition scheme. Try repairing the drive as well as the partition and try again. If it's still not working purge the drive and try again or use a different drive.

I installed 10.8.0 on a 2006 Mac Mini, updated with EFI 2.1 and a 2Ghz Core 2 Duo.

I was getting the message about not being able to active iMessages and to contact Apple with a particular reference numbers. I already use the iCloud account on another Mac and my iPhone, and checked I could log in and out on those devices. I also have a valid credit card registered. I tried changing the card, that didn't work. However I then tried changing my password and that cleared the issues for me. YMMV

How did you upgrade the EFI to 2.1?

Never mind I was able to do this.

What version of OS X are you using? What did you select during setup?

I think somewhere in this thread is a fix for this issue but I did not find it…
You may try to rename /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist.
This will reset your network configurations. If it does not help rename it back to the original name.
Also you might keep searching the thread although this is a tough task… (starting early october - the release of 10.8.5)
I'm sorry that I can't help you any further. If I remember/find which system file needs to be replaced I'll contact you.
Else you might try getting the 10.8.4 installer somehow as this should work properly.
