The SFOTT method doesn't work for me. I have mac pro 2,1 with 5770.
This is my "log" : https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/55498699/grr.rtf
What is the problem?
Please help :)

I'm not the developer, it's omeden.
I can provide some help, but if it's not enough you should contact the developer.

First of all: Currently it only seems to be compatible to Mavericks, not Mountain Lion. (As it's about Mavericks you should post it to the 10.9 thread.)
Secondly: Does not work is not a bug report. Even through you included The report it would be good to give additional information - what exactly does work? At what stage does the process break? That's even more important, as the log states it finished properly.

I just used SFOTT on an Mac Pro1,1 and it worked perfectly. There's a v.1.2.8 now, I used 1.2.7c. Your log seems to show the USB key was created, what happens when you try to boot it? Perhaps you mistakenly think SFOTT installs OS X? SFOTT creates a USB Installer which you boot to install a pre-patched version of OS X. Should work for you. If anyone has a MacPro1,1; prior to upgrading you should flash the firmware to the Netkas Mac Pro 2006-2007 Firmware Tool so that it's a MacPro2,1. The SFOTT method is EASY and PERFECT for 10.9>10.9.1 if you have a supported video card, mine is a flashed PC HD5770.

Can we please stick to ML in this thread and discusss Mavericks in its own dedicated one?

I really don't understand why people keep talking about Mav in the ML thread and about ML in the Mav thread...

Hi All. Please help me to install ML 10.8 on my Macbook Air A1237. I downloaded MLPostFactor 0.3 and os x mountain lion.app 10.8. Copied ML install app in Applications folder. But the installation of the MLPostFactor always tells me that there is no installation file. What can be the problem? The system that installed now is Mac OS 10.7

Change your system-language to english and try again, if it's already an english-speaking setup you will properly have to redownload the app/recopy it.

also be sure that the size it about 4gb and that you used the system applications folder rather then the users one.

Thank you very much. Yes, the system language wasn't English, this was the problem.

One question more. How to find out what the version of ML in Install OS X Mountain Lion.app ? Also has a problem with update, installed mac os 10.8. Was only update iTunes and update utility. The message "OS X Update can't be installed on this disk. Error occurred while evaluating JavaScript for the package" This message I have when install update manually. When I try to install it through AppStore, it says No updates.

I think no updates is possible, so I downloaded 10.8.4 app and will make install again.

Mavericks 10.9.1 sluggish on MacPro 1,1

Is your Mac Pro sluggish running Mavericks?

I got SFOTT to work and was able to install Mavericks 10.9 on a MacPro 1,1 (2x3.0GHz dual core, wifi, bluetooth, 13GB RAM, 2TB 7200RPM disk, NVidia 8800GT 512MB).

I did the software update to 10.9.1

The MacPro is really slow and sluggish compared to when running 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard). The graphics rendering is slow and sluggish.

What sorts of things do people recommend turning off or tweaking to get better performance?
I was thinking about replacing the 8800GT with an NVidia GTX-460 card.
Is Mountain Lion (10.8.x) snappier and more responsive?

I would love to find/buy a nice newer MacPro (4,1 or later) 8 or 12 core machine, but don't think I can afford it.
I was thinking about upgrading the CPUs to 2x Intel Xeon x5365 quad core for 8 real cores and more cache (compared to the 4 real cores right now).
Anybody got a screaming deal on matched x5365 (or faster that will work with this machine??)?
I was also thinking about putting in an SSD for the system disk.

I have a MacPro 2,1 (2xquad Xeon x5365 3.0GHz, 32GB RAM, 2TB, ...)
running 10.6.8 that I was thinking about upgrading to Mavericks, but I want to be sure it will be fast and responsive. Otherwise, I was thinking about going to Mountain Lion (10.8.x).

Thanks!

:D Thanks folks

Success with a 2006 MacPro 2.66mhz quad and a NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 (512mb) video card upgraded to a 2.66mhz 8-Core (two x5535's). No errors on first installation.

I split the main 10.6.8 harddrive and added two new partitions (install & ML) for a total of 3 partitions. Ran the MLpostfactor v3 (10.8.4 setting) and 10.8.5 OS app(in applications folder) onto the "install" partition, rebooted then ran the install onto the ML partition as instructed. Worked out great and showed up as "10.8.4 MLpostfactor". in the About This Mac window.

I went on to experiment by erasing/reformatting the two new partitions (install & ML) and starting over. Since the harddrive had a total of 3 partitions (original 10.6.8 and the install & ML) I copied/cloned the original 10.6.8 partition onto the new ML partition using "Super Duper". I wanted to see if all my existing programs would still work after the update. Again I followed instructions and ran MLpostfactor v3 (10.8.4 setting) onto the install partition, rebooted and went on with the 10.8.5 OS update. Everything went well once again. All my existing programs opened and ran as normal. It's been 3 days and still no problems. I erased/deleted the original 10.6.8 partition and resized the ML partition. I'm going to keep the small "install" partition for now.

I was able to update the "About This Mac" section to report "10.8.5" by the editing the /System/Library/CoreServices/SystemVersion.plist as mentioned in a previous post.

I copied the SystemVersion.plist onto the desktop, opened it, and then corrected the 10.8.4 to 10.8.5. I then deleted the original SystemVersion.plist from the /System/Library/CoreServices/SystemVersion.plist location(required password). Dragged and dropped the edited SystemVersion.plist from the Desktop into that /System/Library/CoreServices/SystemVersion.plist location entered password and yes....it worked!!! Now reports as "10.8.5 MLpostfactor"

Scored a 9690 on the GeekBench 32bit. I may install an SSD TO get a little more speed. I will look into installing the 10.8.5 supplemental update later.

Thanks again as things were pretty simple to install using MLpostfactor.

Stuck on Restoring original installation system

I Need help :)
I'm installing 10.8.4 onto MacBook Mid-2007 (Black) and when running MLPostfactor from Installation menu Utilities->ML Postfactor
Seems Postinstallation does nothing and process indicator stuck on "Restoring original installation system"

I tried all process 10 times already in different combinations (USB stick, External HD, Internal HD, Installer created using Lion, Installed created using Mountain Lion, Maverick and etc.)

If load into working system and run ML Postfactor against ML partition it's installing successfully but ML is not loading. (Computer automatically switching off after Apple screen)

asp_tcp.kext was installed i properly??

Hi,

I did the whole procedure "by the book" and it worked. I have Mountain Lion running on a white MacBook (2007). Great! It even copied all the settings/apps/accounts from the Lion install/partition. Great!

Well, then it tried to perform a Time Machine Backup and then I got an error dialog saying:

The system extension "/System/Library/Filesystems/AppleShare/asp_tcp.kext"was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product's vendor for an update.

Any ideas? The Time Machine setup is an USB drive attache to an AirPort Extreme.

I also tried connecting to a NAS drive (SMB) but it does not work.

I used the 32-bit MLPostFactor 0.3. I installed MacOS 10.8.4

Thanks!

Successful update tu 10.8.0 with MLPortFactor v3.0

I could not update 10.8.1 with apple package update (JavaScript error) neither 10.8.2 with combo apple update.

Successful update from 10.8.0 to 10.8.4 with MLPortFactor, no errors never, 10.7.5 to 10.8.0 and 10.8.0 to 10.8.4.

Microphone works fine. Time machine works fine.

I'd like update 10.8.5 and/or 10.9.0. Easy Procedure?

Thanks!

Sucessful 10.8.4 to 10.8.5 update

I got ok update to 10.8.5:

1) Restore file /System/Library/CoreServices/SystemVersion.plist with original app file inside InstallESD.dmg >4GB File (inside app file).

--> About this Mac will show correct information, and Software Update will detect all available actualizations

2) Software Update, Install 10.8.5 System Update

--> This update will fail, I think it cannot install Darwin kernel because patched kernel is active, but I think all other actualizacions will success.

--> If restart, will fail with prohibit symbol other apple symbol

3) Login into ML Port Factor Install partition in ours macs

4) Select Utilities -> Terminal

5) Into /Volumes/-MAC-/System/Library/CoreServices, copy SystemVersion.plist to SystemVersion.plist.org

--> This plist file copied to .org contains correct 10.8.5 information

6) Close (Cmd-Q) Terminal

7) Select Utilities -> ML Port Factor utility

8) Aply 10.8.4 patch install to our -MAC- installation

9) Copy new SystemVersion.plist file to SystemVersion.plist.MLPF file

--> This new file contains the patched MLPF information from original sixteen years old boy developer :O, I wish not delete it :)

10) Copy SystemVersion.plist.org file to SystemVersion.plist

--> This will enable Safari 6.1.1 update and others

11) Restart

12) Update software (Safari, and some more it applied)

13) Enjoy :)

I'd like know how update to 10.9 :)

Thanks!

You can't. Theres's no support for X3100 graphics in 10.9 and never will be due to lack of 64bits kexts. And I don't believe anyone will ever write a 32bit 10.9 kernel either! ML (MLPF) is the best you can have if you can live with its little bugs and limitations.

You can head over to 10.9 Mavericks section of the forum where there is a dedicated thread similar to this one.

Sorry, please ignore my above posts, I just saw the requirement of OS X Lion as the base requirement so I presume I must be back after installing that before I do the MLPFactor for Mountain Lion.

thanks
