You can try MacPostFactor at osxhackers.tk and see if you have better results using that. I can not get a USB based installer made from that to boot on a MacBook 4,1 myself. Hope you have better luck.

Question: it looks like today's iTunes 12.3 update bumped the minimum OS requirements to 10.8.5 from 10.7.5. I'm currently running MLPF v0.3 and have 10.8.4 installed on an early 2008 MacBook. I'm happy with that, and really have no reason to upgrade to 10.8.5, particularly given I've heard how much of a hassle it can be. So is there a way to trick the system into thinking I have 10.8.5 installed just so I can install the iTunes update, without having to upgrade the OS itself?

This is what I'm wondering as well. Stuck on 10.4 right now and can't update my ITunes. Thus I can't sync my IPad anymore which sucks.

Do I have applying MPF 1.01 like in MLPF 0.3 the option to choose between the 32-bit and 64-bit Kernel of the OS X?

MPF 1.01 recognizes my late 2006 iMac as a EFI64 automatically and installs ML fine this way. (10.8.5) But how can I convert this system to 32 bit kernel version? I tried to patch the kernel , boot efi etc. manually but I think I miss a thing here...
I tried also to install 10.8.5 via MLPF 0.3 which does not work .

That's nice. Actually a MB 4.1 MPF is recognized automatically as a EFI 32 machine. The thing is i would like to see an option in MPF to force a 32 bit kernel install even if the computer is capable of EFI 64.

In the end I did a clean install again with MLPF with the 10.8.4 option and later reverting the system.plist to 10.8.5 .
Another important thing I discovered is that the Appstore updates only work with Spotlight enabled. Actually I usually totally disable Spotlight and run http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/ , which does the job decently.

In the end I found the Ati kext which work the best (with QE enabled by default, as so I get almost the same graphic speed like under Snow Leopard, without having to run "Quartz Debug App" for my particular GPU) are the X1600 drivers 7.18.18 . - see the attachment.

Magic Mouse is the only Bluetooth object and it runs great .

For the Bluetooth problems you may check the 10.8.5 Supplemental update?!

I finally got this to work but it wasn't easy and I wanted to share my problems and final solution. I used MacPostFactor 1.0.1 to install Mountain Lion (10.8.5) on my original MacBook Air. I tried to do this on the target machine running Lion (10.7.5). I tried creating the installer on an internal partition as well as on an external USB drive. In both cases I was able to "succeed" but when I booted from the new installer I would simply boot back to Lion. I had given up multiple times when I decided to try "one last time" and use my Mac Pro running Yosemite to create the installer on the same external USB drive. This time it worked and I am now running 10.8.5 on my original MacBook Air! This was key for me because I wanted to run BTSync 2.0 and that requires 10.8. The other gotcha for me was that I selected "other" when the only other option was for (MacBook3,1 or MacBook4,1) because I was looking for MacBook Air1,1. However I learned from this video
by dosdude1 that those macbooks have the same GMA X3100 graphics as I do and so that was the right choice for me. I hope this helps some others who are having trouble and may be facing the same problems.

Hi I've almost tried everything with bluetooth, no success. Built in hardware not working, dongle csr too, I tried to install10.8.5 Supplemental update, as Cyberish suggest, but "osx combined can't be installed on disk ...., volume does not meet the requirements for this update ..." I unpacked the package by pacyfist and copy the bluetooth kexts - no bluetooth available.

Hi, does anybody know about Server App in mountain Lion installing this way - will it work or not?

Originally it wouldn't even boot, i just got the no entry symbol. I put the hack in the platformsupport.plist to add the XServe2,1 as a supported machine. It booted, but the actual installer still refused to believe it was a supported model. So i cloned an existing installation of ML onto the XServes hard drive, and added the XServe2,1 model and the board number into the platformsupport.plist preference file in /System/Library/CoreServices on the newly copied installation. The machine booted perfectly. The only other thing i had to do is copy over the X1300 graphics drivers from a Lion installation and the machine is working perfectly. The only thing as i said is Remote Desktop is a bit sluggish, there may be something in the graphics drivers that isn't functioning correctly, but other than that no problems at all. In fact i'm surprised at just how well it runs. Just don't expect to be using any high graphics capable apps on it! Which most people wouldn't. In fact most people who use XServes don't even plug monitors into them!
what about Server App - is it working?

It's been years since I've played with this but I've had a 2006 iMac with X1600 graphics running 10.8.4 very well for a couple of years now. I thought it's time for a fresh install of 10.8.5 with MacPostFactor which I did but now I get graphical glitches and crashes. It only recognises 6MB VRAM in About This Mac.

Is this expected behaviour for 64-bit kernel? I'm assuming the reason for my issues is that the 64-bit kext for X1600 does not work properly and there's nothing I can do?

I'm now in the process of doing a fresh MLPF 10.8.5 install using the 10.8.4 option then will edit system.plist back to 10.8.5 and try and install all updates. I guess if it does not boot after an update, I'll just need to boot from my MLPF install USB and run MLPF again?

Edit: It turns out that minor updates error out so the trick is to install the OS, install supplemental update and security update 2015-006 via command line while booted from the install media then run MLPF then update SystemVersion.plist and install updates for iTunes, Safari etc once in the OS.

"What is Mountain Lion. What makes it so different comparing to Lion?
Alright, Mountain Lion is the 8th version of OS10. What makes it so different comparing to Lion? Before i get to that, let me explain what "Kexts" is. Kexts is Kernel Extensions in short, it basically like Drivers on Windows. There are 2 versions of kexts. 1 is 32-bit the other is 64-bit. Lion uses mostly 32-bit kexts where as Mountain Lion uses mostly 64-bit kexts."

I know it been a while but... by any chance has anybody been able to figure out away to hack Mountain Lion or any newer OS unto a early 2006 Macbook Pro 2.16 "intel core duo" ?
(currently on 10.6.8)

Thanks fellas ![/QUOTE]

Unfortunately it's impossible as that CPU doesn't support 64-bit instructions at all.

Hi All, I'm using MPF 1.0.1 to install 10.8.5 to a 24 inch 2006 imac, 3gb ram 7300gt graphics. I have no problem making a boot drive, but it always boots up to this screen, waits about 30 secs, gets the spinning wheel, then reboots in an endless loop. This happens with both external and internal install drives Any ideas? I've previously installed 10.8.4 with MLPF and it ran great, with no issues. Thanks.

So, pretty much have all mandatory boxes ticked with not success. Installing Mavricks on MP 2,1, quad core processors. The software gets to the point where it asks for admin password, accepts that but it still says 'Waiting for Admin rights'. It then appears to be doing a ton of file coping to the target, internal drive partition. And it is, but that's as far as it gets. Never completes the job even after letting it process for more than an hour. Which is a bit past 'quite a long bit'.

I do have the stock ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512 MB graphics card in the machine, but I would not think that would have an bearing on building the boot drive.

I know there's lots of variables, but any ideas why MPF v1.0.1 would just seemingly sit there?
TIA

Greetings, everyone. New around here, and not much experience with software modding. I was just made aware of MPF. I used it to successfully build a USB installer of 10.8.5 for my MacBook 3,1. However, it will not boot to the usb. I even pulled the HDD out and I just get the folder on the boot screen. At first I thought it was because I used my MBP with 10.8.5 to run it, so I installed 10.7 on an external disk and make the USB installer with the MB 3,1. Still nothing. I'm out of ideas. Thanks for any help you guys can offer.
