Thanks for the NoSleep hint!

My DVD player hasn't worked since an unfortunate incident about a year ago. I opted to not replace it when I got my MacBook repaired after a drop because I never use it anyway. Sorry that's not very helpful.

Also, I thought I had Flash working but now I don't. No youtube, haven't tried VLC yet. Any idea what I might have missed?

On Youtube, when you get the black screen,
Right click
Go to Settings
And turn off Hardware Acceleration
Try Youtube again it should be working.

This helped me. I have been trying to make that work since DP1!

Will there ever be a fix for sleep, brightness, and acceleration on macbook 2,1 with intel gma 950?

If you are running ML on an unsupported Mac, does your DVDPlayer work?

Only works if you have X3100 or supported cards

----------

All right, thanks!! I really couldn't find it. It was so annoying to leave the lid a bit open during the night. The screen doesn't go really black, it has the backlight. Anyone has an idea why?

Sleep doesn't work. Got a fix for it, but its unstable, require further testing but i have nothing to test on :(

Nope. Not for GMA 950.

DVDPlayer not working

Well, I've got a Macbook 3.1 with X3100 graphics and running 10.8.2. I've installed the 10.8.2 Supplemental Update.
The problem I'm having is that when I insert a DVD I get a message telling me that "There was an initialization error. A valid device could not be found for playback"
Both my internal and external drives give this message and both burn DVDs and CDs correctly.
Playback in Lion works fine.
I've tried many fixes for this problem but haven"t found a solution.
TIA for your help.

Does nvram -p give you an output in Terminal?

Right well, it's not pointing to where I thought then, have you tried one of the old versions of DVD player framework?

ATi R6670 Graphics?

Will an ATi R6670 Graphics card in a Mac Pro 1,1 work? I have the other two 7300 GTs but I know they don't work... This card is technically for PCs and I didn't flash it but it works except for the boot screen.

Don't know if this has been discussed just throwing in my 2 cents. Is the brightness issues on macbook 3,1 and 4,1 because of the lack of light sensor like MBP have.

I have a MacBook 3,1

I was looking for info on getting my MacBook Late 2007 working with Mountain Lion. If you are needing a MacBook such as this one, I would sell it to a cause such as yours for the posted $200. Or do you have a lead on one already?

I am in California, United States of America, near the original Disneyland. I don't think I am comfortable shipping to a foreign country. I don't suppose you travel much??

Also, I am making a special deal for HackerWayne. IF YOU ARE NOT HIM, DO NOT ASK/BEG/ENCOURAGE ME TO SELL TO YOU!!

I have upgraded the Memory and Hard Drive on this unit. contact me for more details.

There is such a thing, it's called "iUTAMacinhackV10b2.dmg" and can be found on your favorite bit torrent site.

But that's a complete installer thing image, right? What about something that is just the tweaks alone. Like in XPostFacto, you run the app, then select your source file (like the OS 10.4 install disc for example), your destination, and it would copy files bundled in the app to that drive, then reboot into the installer, and then you have OS X ready for your computer. I think you may have had to open the App again first though straight after the install (back in OS 9) to get it ready.

Simple question. Is it illegal? Will it violate any copyrights? No? If no, im happy to do it :)

This works nicely on my macbook4,1 :). Great work all!

For me the brightness level in Mountain Lion remains at the same setting as I set in Lion, which is acceptable (in my opinion) as I don't change the brightness that much. The real problem what keeps me from really using Mountain Lion is the sleep issue, a laptop that can't sleep isn't all that useful. But who knows someone can come up with a clever solution :).

Did anyone else notice ML is quite a bit slower than Lion? It shaves about 25% off my geekbench score..

Can't set boot disk in ML & weirdness

I successfully installed 10.8.2 with this guide, but there are two problems I have outstanding that I would really love some assistance with.

The first is that I can't set the boot disk. Neither the preference pane nor BootChamp can set it, and bless says:
Code:
Could not find IODeviceTree:/options
Can't access "efi-boot-device" NVRAM variable

Since I am using a new non-EFI card, I can't use the boot select screen, so I am basically required to open the computer up, change the card back to the older EFI card to boot into Windows, set it as default using the Boot Camp control panel and then shut it down and put the new card back. In such a state it is easy to get back to ML but when I want to go back to Windows after, I would have to do the whole thing again.

So I guess I really need some kind of alternate boot menu that works with non-EFI cards or a third party or hacked up bless that will work on my Mac Pro 1,1, or something. Please, any assistance you wonderful people can give would be amazing.

The second issue, which is more minor, is that the computer believes that it is still 10.8.0, possibly due to the copying the kernel back manoeuvre. This means I can't update iPhoto, and it displays just "10.8" on About This Mac. I am also slightly concerned that just forever using this older kernel means I won't be able to benefit from any improvements or patches to it. Thoughts?
